Check out the Young Me Me Now website - it's a very cool idea with some pretty neat side by side pics, of you guessed it people recreating a pic of them when they were young, now. Another of those brilliantly simple idea that will leave you thinking "Why didn't I think of that?"

Either way, it looks like a fun game to play, so if you do lemme know. Even if you don't submit the pics, share them over this way. Bring a smile to your favourite blogger's face.

I bring this up because in the past week I've been getting my kids' movie on (big surprise, eh?), including finally watching Wall-E; which was another Pixar winner, and some scathing social commentary, although I'm probably one of the last people in the free world to know that. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favour and ch-ch-ch-check it out.

I also rocked Disney's The Jungle Book, which I have no idea how true to Kipling's Mowgli stories really is, but damn if I didn't enjoy it all over again and this movie must have one of, if not the best, Disney movie soundtrack. I mean come on, check this, or this, out and tell me you're not doing a little chair dance of your very own right now?

I know I am. Shit, it might have an even more infectious groove than the B-Boys' Intergalactic. Okay, maybe as infectious.

Another thing I hadn't noticed as a kid was just how much the characters in Disney's Robin Hood looked and sounded just like the characters from The Jungle Book . . . pre-windows cut and paste action I guess.

Well I think that's it . . . maybe next I'll watch Pinnochio, haven't seen that one in yonks. Or maybe I'll just check out Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer instead.

Hippity Hoppity Easter's On Its Way

Well Easter is quickly approaching (and we all know what that means - The Ten Commandments will be on TV this weekend), so I'll spare you the bit about the Catholic Church co opting a Pagan festival/celebration to Eostre to make it easier for non-believers and other general heathens to sign on for their celebration of resurrection of everybody's favourite Jewish, hippy carpenter.

I'll also resist the urge to make any wisecracks about Zombie Jesus.

When I was a kid finding chocolates and eggs left behind by the Easter Bunny (now I prefer Fluff E the Hip Hop Bunny) was cool, but man it was a lot of work . . . and I honestly never clued in to anything when my folks would say there's more stuff to find when I thought I was done. Yeah I can be a little thick at times . . . still.

Also in the last year I've had to explain, or at least talk about, Ukrainian Easter Eggs to two different people. As odd as it might seem and despite the fact that I'd always known about them and had them around me growing up, apparently not everyone is familiar with these tiny works of art.

Who knew that not everyone had Ukrainian roots? Even if you don't do yourself a favour and enjoy some perogies, cabbage rolls and kubasa if you haven't already. Take my word on that.

But enough of that for now, I gotta go get ready. Seven things to do today, seven things to do, can't stray from the list, seven things to do today.

As we're all aware Steampunk is wicked awesome and this steampunk Stormtrooper Helmet, Boba Fett and Princess Leia are fine examples of the genre. Now that's way cooler than these crochet Star Wars characters (but they are cool in their own right, just not as cool) don't you think?

If you're down with the steampunk you should check out China Mieville's novels Perdido Street Station, The Scar and Iron Council. Not only are the really good books by a good and imaginative author set in a very unique world, they have a great steampunk flavour going on in them.

I can't explain why, but I think steampunk is awesome. It probably appeals to me for the reason(s) as rat rods (how could you not want to drive one or two yourself - the car perv, but hey Rock-a-betty chicks aren't so bad either), Dickies and bowling shirts do.

Oh and a little more for the Star Wars fans out there - in case you needed any more proof that George Lucas hates you but loves your money (even if it needs to get funneled from your wallet to him through your kids) apparently he'd like to make a Jedi Babies series, because we all remember how awesome the Muppet Babies were.

Since I've knocked you down some, it's only fair that I build you back up with these awesome Star Wars pics. Almost makes up for that last link don't it?

Ever wonder what Stormtroopers do on their day off? Yeah me either, but here's the answers anyway. Pretty cool n'est pas? I think we're about even for the Jedi Babies thing, right?

Anyway a friend of mine has been selected to be one of the Leaders taking one of the two West Sussex contingents of Scouts to the 22nd World Scouting Jamboree being held in 2011 in Sweden. Apparently there's a lot of cost (time, training, money) involved in pulling off something like this so if you're interested you can help them raise some money while doing your online shopping and not spend a penny more (well unless you have to pay kah-razy shipping costs because we're talking about something based out of the UK) than you already are.

Anyway the West Sussex World Scout Jamboree Unit A is registered with these guys who have over 2000 online retailers signed on so they've got just about everything you could want to buy, or so I've been told.

As if there's any other kind but check out this great interview with the aging alternative icon himself, none other than Henry Rollins where he talks about many things, among them why we'll never see a Black Flag reunion, which is one of them good and bad all at the same time things, if you ask me . . . and I know you didn't but you're here so you must want to know what I think.

Well we've had an early spring here, and according to the Weather Network it's not going to last, but I'll take it, most of the snow is melted out of my yard, we had temperatures in the double digits on the weekend and I was out on my bike both days. Not too bad for mid-March in Sunset Country, eh?

The warm weather will mean the animals will start coming out of the bush again, so maybe you're in the market for a new set of bull bars for your truck. If you're cool, and I know you are because you're here, you're into The Beastie Boys and Battlestar Galactica, and brothers and sisters let me tell you, you're in luck because right here is the finest (okay only but it's still pretty bad ass) mash up of the B-Boys Sabotage with footage from BSG, complete with the original video and a sweet side by side comparison of the original and the mash up.

Time, time, got the time of day, day

Tickin' in my head! Tickin' in my head!

Always being on the look out for all things awesome here are couple of items that I thought might do well in the Willow of the Wood's shop, especially after the sin that was the teacup clock. The first one is the Redundant Clock. Cool eh? And probably hard to read after a night on the lash.

The next interesting time piece is the Aspiral Clock that has no hands, is just a spiral that slowly rotates and has balls that set at the bottom of the spiral and marks the time. Very cool eh?

While we're talking time, I've recently purchased another new watch; I had bought a nice Timex (well okay nice for a Timex) watch and had the crown snap off when adjusting the time. It was returned and replaced and a couple months later the same thing happened again. So I'm planning to send the watch back, but let's fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, so I went out and ended up buying a new Fossil watch. And up until now I've only ever owned Timex watches. Maybe never again?

I think the watch might almost be too cool for me, but hey it works and it looks nice and hopefully it won't fall apart on me . . . and it's got the backing of an 11 year warranty (according to the sales girl anyway). I'll just have to remember not to wear it when I'm doing things will result in it being smashed to shit.

Now I'm not in the market for a room mate, but maybe some of you are, so here's a lesson in how to rent out your extra room. I don't know about you but I'm sold.

And you know I'm not sure where my sweet beard falls, but it sure is nice to know there's a gauge out there for me now.

Now here's a place where I could really spend some quality time.

Nothing makes a kid feel better about themselves than seeing other people commit some truly epic fails, and this video from Funny or Die (or FoD as the cool kids call it) is chock full of them. Get your wince reflex ready. If you'd like to check some local fail content viddy this one.

If that's not your thing maybe checking out six and a half minutes of kah-razy motorcycle trail riding; awesome scenery but I don't know that I'd be dirt biking there - but maybe I'm just a big pussy.

These Savage Chicken cartoons (done on Post-It Notes) really tickled my funny bone and I think you might like as well. And while we're talking about Savage Chickens, check out this article about Sheriff's Deputies seizing over 600 chickens in a Southern California raid that authorities were being used for cock fighting.

Since it doesn't appear that any celebrities were involved and people don't care about chickens as much as dogs don't expect this to get a whole lot of media coverage.

On the tool front, think of all the troubles you could escape from and problems you could solve if you only had this in your tool box . . . and maybe a roll of duct tape and a Swiss army knife . . . and a sweet mullet, don't forget the mullet.

Lousy Smarch Weather

Actually that's not entirely true, the weather has been aces here lately.

But, hey another month another post, we'll see if we can be any more regular about stopping by here, but no promises. Remember you get what you pay for.

It's no secret that there are demons that live in my head and cause me no end of grief and pain, but whenever I hear someone say "Oh I had a migraine once." I want to poke them in the eye with hot poker. Migraine isn't a one off and it's not Latin for "bad headache"; but maybe this article comparing the myth and reality of migraines will help. If it doesn't I did find it an interesting read.

It's a sad sad day and the end of an era, the Alamo Village from the John Wayne Alamo movie is shut down and for sale. I never visited there, and never tried to either, but you have to admit it would be a cool stop on a road trip?

I wonder if Peewee's bike is in the basement?

Maybe Mr. E.T. could save the place, he pities the foo' that won't let him phone home.

No matter, but perhaps this video will make you happy to learn that it doesn't just happen to fat guys.

It's no secret that I travel and after seeing this I think that Russia has moved up a few pegs on my list of places to visit . . . and I might be ready for another trip by the end of the day.

Speaking of visiting, if you're ever in Las Vegas do go check out the Las Vegas Gun Range and Firearm Center; I spent the $50 to blast two clips through a Tommy gun and brothers and sisters let me tell you it was so not worth money and worth every penny at the same time. Let's put it this way, when I was done I very nearly pulled out my wallet and peeled out another $50 to do it all over again . . . and if I go back to Vegas again I'd go back there in a heart beat.

Since we're talking guns, maybe you've already seen this, but how's about this video of a bunch of different guys firing off a .577 rifle. Trust me it's worth the watch.

Did you ever wonder what would happen if you could combine someone with OCD and a crazy cat lady into one? Well wonder no longer, because I have for you here the answer.

And here's a burning question that needs answering. Please Jebus tell me that wasn't real.

Okay, having been to Oz I know just how good a good pie can be, I can totally relate to this.

I mean if you had just purchased a pie I'm sure you'd ask the fuzz if you could pick it up to finish it if you were in the same situation. I know personally the best pie I've ever had was at about 7 AM in Byron Bay on our way down to the beach to check out the lighthouse (okay look at from a distance) and most easterly point in all of the Land Down Undah.

If you're looking for some good pies on this side of the Pacific or just a fan of pies in general do check out Mr. D's Tart-n-Pie in Winnipeg. Speaking from experience they do a great pie and apparently work with chefs in Oz to get the most authentic pie going. I wouldn't be surprised if I pick up a bunch when I'm in the city next.

And while we're in the area, let's stop in and check out these Kiwi rugby fans who advertised for a large chested woman or midget to fetch beers during rugby and are most likely the kinds of blokes we'd all like to hang out with. You'll have to read the article yourself to find out who they hired for the gig, but really with applicants like that, how can you go wrong?

How cool is this little gadget? I have no idea how well it would or wouldn't work, but it looks cool don't it?

And while we're on the topic of cool, here's something that I think the Willow of the Wood might like. Personally I like the space monkey one, but that's barely a surprise is it?

And yes Virginia it's more than a Meat Loaf (personally I prefer meatloaf but that's me) tune long Don McLean (not one half of MacLean & MacLean apparently) song (and a second rate Madonna cover), it's when a small plane carrying The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly (the man who would have been the real King of Rock and Roll IMHO) crashed outside Mason City, Iowa, while en route to a show in Fargo, North Dakota.

Ahhh the viral video . . . you know them you send them, people send them to you the whole world watches them, but who has time to watch them all? If you're unlike me and too busy to waste vast amounts of your time in such trivial pursuits then have I got the answer for you, a sweet compilation of the greatest of the viral videos.

I think I love Boxxy although there is something mighty appealing about Buffy the Cookie Monster Slayer. I guess it's safe to say that I still carry that torch for comic book girls . . . speaking of I nearly had geek love over load the other week when watching an episode of What's New Scooby Doo when Daphne was dressed up as Catwoman at a comic convention on the show. Mui Caliente.

Ever get your iPod earbuds all tangled up and not know how to get them untangled? Well have I got the video for you, after watching this you'll know how to untangle your headphones using just a simple cat. It appears to work but I can promise I'm not going to give it a go myself.

Since I'm already helping you out here, do you ever have to buy someone a gift but you're either too lazy or uncreative or don't care enough to pick the gift yourself? Well here's the solution for you, just have a vague idea of what your giftee is like, make a few clicks and the internet will come up with some suggestions for you. Ah the internetz is there nothing that it can't do?

While we're talking about the things the interwebs can do for you, how's about taking a look at seven crimes that will get you a smaller fine than file sharing. I know stealing is wrong, even if it electronic intellectual property and not a physical item but that seems more than a little off (provided the information is accurate of course and that's one of the beauty things about the internet it's constantly updated with the most up to date accurate cutting edge and the most up to date completely wrong and made up information going - that's why I love the Uncyclopedia) and perhaps law makers need to take a step back and re-evaluate things a little.

Ahhh February, shortest month of the year which means the best salary to days worked ratio going . . . well unless you count my office closing for two weeks in December and still getting paid for the full month . . . is Black History Month, the home of Groundhog Day (which is tomorrow, go out and enjoy it's not everyday you can get away with harassing a burrow dwelling animal for kicks, to kick and/or weather predicting purposes) and this year is the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics being held in Vancouver February 12 to 28.

I'm sure this is going to be a very unpopular stance, but this t-shirt sums up my feelings towards the Olympics quite nicely. And not just the Winter Olympics or the Vancouver Olympics or the 2010 Olympics, the Olympics in general. Except for the Laff-A-Lympics and Olympic Fine Meat products . . . they're all right.

Oh and I'm good with Special Olympics jokes too. Yeah, I'm a bad person, but so are you, after all you're hear reading this stuff when you could be doing some good on the Internet or better yet in real life. Yeah like that's going to happen.

As long as there is no CBC coverage and/or it doesn't screw up my Coronation Street viewing I'll be all right with it . . . except for every swinging dick around talking about how 'we' did in this event or that event or whatever. Makes me wonder how they can be back at work after lunch after spending the morning rocketing down the luge track and collecting an aluminum (or aluminium?) medal for coming in Nth place.

That's enough preaching for now . . . how about something frightening that might make you rethink Winnipeg being one great city.

And oh yeah, just so you know David Bowie is very disappointed in you. Shape up, eh?

Every feel like you don't have time to watch all the movies you'd like to see? Well as long as you're only concerned about films released in 2009 and have 7 minutes to spare, you're in luck. Here they are in all their edited down and distilled greatness.

Or maybe you're not into quality and prefer your film with a healthy dose of cheese . . . we'll I've got you covered yet again, thanks to the YouTubes here are the 100 Cheesiest Movie Lines of All Time (admittedly I recognised several of these films . . . and enjoyed some of them a lot too) . . . according to some guy who has the time on his hands to watch the movies, collect the scenes, edit them down and post them to YouTube.

Maybe cheese in film isn't your bag either, and prefer fast paced sometimes awkward lengthy dialog littered with pop culture references and splashed with more than just a little bit of the ultra violence. In that case the Tarantino Film Reference Manual might be something you'd find interesting and/or amusing.

But then again, perhaps you're just interested in what's new and exciting. Well I don't know about you but I think that the film MacGruber looks like it's full of win. You can check out the red band trailer here if you're so inclined.

Although maybe you're into documentaries or monkeys . . . or documentaries made by monkeys. If so you're in luck . . . well sure okay they're chimps not monkeys, but they were given cameras and the footage they shot was put together and is being aired on the BBC. There's more info (and more importantly a clip of the chimp directed/shot footage) here and after watching this and Transformers and Transformers 2 I think that Michael Bay went to the same film school as they did.

No word on whether or not the chimps used to shoot softcore porn though. But you know if I hear of any I'll pass it along.

Do you know the history behind the 12 Days of Christmas? Neither did I until my main man Alan Cross set me straight with this article. Who knew it was all about sneaky English Catholics trying to teach religious lessons . . . not me that's for sure.

The MacKenzie Brothers version is pretty good too . . . and I'd be pretty surprised if there was a subversive religious message hid in there.

I don't know about you but any restaurant that uses a cowboy monkey riding a dog in its commercial is going to get my business. And while we're talking commercials, I think it's fair to say that this just might be the best raisin bran commercial ever.

And this, the greatest laptop commercial ever. It reminds me of all the time I blew playing videos games sat in front of my Commodore 128.

I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland film. Check out the trailer here, featuring none other than Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, and I think he makes a very good, and very Tim Burton, looking one, don't you?

BTW that's a real Christmas card available from Tesco that is stirring up a bit of controversy, see? Man some people can't take a joke. Personally I think they should keep selling the card, offer a deep discounts to redheads and then next year change things up and sell cards that read:

"Santa loves all kids. Even ones without senses of humour."

But that's just me and it's a well known fact that I'm more than a bit of a dick.

And while we're talking giftmas, this is a pretty good article written to curse the types of people who do things like purchase a goat for an African village from a company who in turn sends you a card saying So-and-so bought Such-and-such to make the life better for a family living in poverty in rural Africa. The real beauty part is I know people who give gifts like that and I also know people who feel similarly to the article's author about receiving gifts like that.

More great news if you're still a fan of off the wall Canuck sketch-com, The Kids in the Hall have reunited to do an 8 episode mini-series called Death Comes to Town that will be airing on the CBC. The gist of the series is Death gets off the Greyhound in a small town and everyone in town becomes a suspect when the Mayor ends up dead. You can check out the trailer for the show here if you're interested and I know you are.

This isn't quite local, but close enough and it might just be the strangest Google Winnipeg Street View ever (if you have a stranger one let me know about it) . . . I just want to know, do the people getting into the truck know about the guy lying in the bed?

Finally thanks to the fine folks over at Explore Music we now know who to blame for the fame and popularity of Nickelback, New Brunswick. Get behind a new band would you, you bastards. At first the popularity of Nickelback gave me some hope for the resurgence of guitar/bar rock (which trust me would be a good thing), but sadly know all it's given us is a Nickelback clones, which is super great if you happen to live in New Brunswick I suppose.

While we're talking music, how's about a nice video of fans being interviewed in an arena parking lot before a Slayer/Marilyn Manson show in Cali that makes me proud to be a metalhead. Oh and trust me, that guy's mum is a whore. And the parking lot before a metal is a lot like that, even when it's really really cold out.

You may have already seen this video already, but it's pretty awesome and I've got to share, it's the Muppets doing a video for Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. It's pretty awesome . . . but I'm a little biased after all I am fan of Queen & the Muppets.

If you're Canadian and you liked off kilter sketch comedy troupes no doubt you have fond memories of watching and/or listening to The Frantics (remember CBC's Four on the Floor with the Frantics? I know I do) . . . well you're in luck as The Frantics are back together and are celebrating their 30th anniversary (counting their 15 year break from each other). Here's the article that brought this to my attention.

I can only hope that this will convince Rick Green that he needs to restart Commander Rick Prisoner of Gravity stat. Man I miss that show . . . it's the show that introduced me to Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Maus and so much more great comic/sci-fi/fantasy literature . . . and made me want to live in a space station with a super computer and sweet arm chair . . . well I'm part way there aren't I?

Oh and if you're trying shop for that hard to buy for geek check these out. Pretty cool eh? I don't think I've seen a cooler USB thumb drive since the Lego Brick thumb drive mod.

One thing that hasn't helped is that I've been without a home computer for a while after my vintage two stroke dino powered machine made the decision to by a new computer for m by completely crapping out a few weeks ago. But we're back in action now . . . and I've got a lot of work to do and catch up on, but I'm up early and Scooby Doo isn't on Teletoon or Teletoon Retro yet so permit me to entertain you.

Unfortunately fans (okay maybe that's an exageration, fan) I've lost a lot of what I was saving to put up on here but we gotta start somewhere right?

I've been wanting another - no make that more - tattoos for a good long while now, it's just more than a bit of a pain in the ass for me to get one, factoring in the time and expense of going in and out of the city to get it done . . . but such is the price one pays for living in a bubble of a town in Northwestern Ontario I suppose.

No matter, but today I'd thought I'd share of the online ink viewing I've been doing (hey I'm a poet and didn't know it). Let's start out with a nice big collection of what were you thinking tattoos. Oh it starts out with a real winner and has a good mix of the badly thought out, badly done and just flat out bad ideas. Hell that was so much fun, here's another one.

As much as we all enjoy looking down the back of a girl's pants decorating this area with ink is not a good idea, and the tramp stamp has become as played out and stereotypical a tattoo as Taz (wow that one's got a poor idea, poor execution and bad photography all rolled into one) or the tribal slave band (sorry if you rocking either of those, I'm sure they were cool & original when you got them but now . . . gee sorry). In honour of this here's a gallery of some of the whackiest of the tramp stamps and here are some of the worst.

I really really hope that your shitty tattoo isn't in either of those . . . if they were, well I do honestly feel sorry for you.

Now how's about an entire website to the tattoo that I generally think is cool, but sooo-oh not for me, the Knuckle Tat. I actually know a guy who has a set of knuckle tats and when he laces his fingers together it spells out "LETS FUCK". Yep he's a class act all right.

It must be the geek in me showing through but I really like a lot of these "science" based tats . . . and these ones . . . oh and these ones too.

These tattoos of vintage/obsolete gadgets also appealed to me, guess I'm really letting my geek flag fly today. I know it's quite apparent that the author of that blog is definitely against these tats, but tell me this isn't awesome?

And well tell me that these tattoos of girls with Hello Kitty tattoos aren't a nice mix of geekery and giggity? Or maybe that's just my unhealthy attraction towards comic book and characters showing through and combining with baser geekish tendencies. And I swear I'm not a Furry. Honest.

I don't know about you, but I often turn to tea (this being a favourite and before you ask yes it must be Twinings) in my times of need and apparently it's for good reason. According to this article the calming effects of tea are scientifically proven and you can't argue with science. Well you can but then you become history's laughing stock, you flat earther creationist bastard.

And I just learned this but apparently not believing in evolution or the earth being a globe means you also don't believe in good web design. Whodda thunk it?

I don't know if intelligent design or evolution can explain this mess, but I think it's discoverer was correct in beating it to death. I probably would have used a stick or club of some sort if I had a choice (like these kids did here) rather than a shoe, but beggars can't be choosers. And the moral of the story is if it's strange and scary bludgeon it.

And here's something that I feel it fits the flavour of things at the moment. I don't know about you but I'm honestly surprised at the number of hits you get when you do a Google Image Search for "Jesus Riding a Dinosaur".

Well on the weekend I saw Rob Zombie's Halloween sequel and brothers & sisters let me tell you it's very Rob Zombie and very twisted. And I finally learned the difference between jam and jelly, and for that Rob I'll be forever grateful and seeing Brea Grant in this movie did nothing to curb my hang up on specs appeal. But hey there are worse things to be hung up . . . right?

Check out these great movie posters from the glory days of Ghana's "mobile cinema". The Mobile Cinema travelled around the country from village to village creating temporary movie theatres in a time when most of the population couldn't afford their own VHS (remember VHS?) machine. To attract people to the see the movies the mobile cinema they'd often hang out home made posters like the ones in the link. And yes most of this paragraph is paraphrased directly from the site I've linked. Remember you get what you pay for.

And since you brought up movie posters, how about Premiere.com's list of the 25 best movie posters ever? Whether you think they're right or not you have to agree that are some really good movie posters there.

Or maybe you'd prefer Cracked.com's collection of the 30 Strangest Movie Posters of all time? Admittedly, this is a favourite, but they seem to have an odd idea of just what exactly strange means . . . either that or I'm fucked. Proper fucked.

As you may or may not know or care I live in Canada and it's awesome, everything smells of pine trees, you can get any article of clothing in plaid flannel, you can use the term tuque and people know exactly what you mean (which is a whole lot easier than referring to your new knit winter hat) and we've got socialised health care.

Personally I love it, but I know there are many people out there, both outside the country and in it, who don't know how it works or how it would work for them and maybe this will clear things up for you.

Regular readers will have figured out that I have some issues with soap-dodgers and half baked schemes, and man do I ever love to hear things like the Prius is more environmentally damaging than a BMW M3. Take that you smug bastards . . . and yeah don't worry I really know what the message of the clip was, just like I *really* know what the message of driving a Prius is.

Now some science I can stand behind 100% - making dinosaurs from chickens. Nothing can possibly go wrong there can it? And think of the omelets you could make from those eggs and imagine a McNugget from Ronnie that could feed four? Now that's progress you can sink your teeth into.

Oh and a bit of a favour and public service announcement, please stop emailing me to inform me that baby carrots are causing cancer from their chlorine marination it's not true . . . that is of course if you believe Snopes and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (see section 4.4 Antimicrobial Treatment of the linked document) over some email that's been forwarded 100 different times from your aunt's neighbour's nephew who is thinking about switching his major from bong hits to pre-med even though he's at the local Community College.

Yep, another post, and it's not even been a month. What's going on in the world? Well lots (I've been busy jumping motorcycles over mountains, try it for yourself, it's fun), but let's just focus on some of the funner bits for now eh? Maybe this is why I wasn't as regular on here as I could have been?

In case you too were disappointed with the GI Joe film (which would have been a lot more enjoyable for me if it weren't called GI Joe) like I was (but I was disappointed exactly how I thought I was going to be disappointed, so is that really disappointment? A question for the ages, something you can figure out after determining what the sound of one hand clapping is) I think you'll thoroughly enjoy The Ballad of GI Joe over at Funny or Die.

Personally I think that was cast & costumed a whole lot better than the film was, at least you could tell who the Joes were just by looking at them . . . and Henry Rollins as Duke? How much better can you get?

None, none better.

Hey all that being said I enjoyed the GI Joe film more than Transformers 2, and the funny thing about that is I thought Transformers 2 was better than the first Transformers film, but not even half as good as the Transformers animated movie.

Oh and for the record, the GI Joe animated movie sucked balls too, so I don't hold everything from when I was a kid in high regards . . . but this does lead me to ask when are they going to make another Masters of the Universe film, but that's a cherished childhood memory that could due with being smashed on the rocks of Hollywood ineptitude.

Oh wait, they are and apparently it's slated for a 2011 release. I will keep hopes high for this for now, after all it will be hard to out bad the Dolph Lundgren MotU film.

In other news that has geeks foaming at the mouth, looks like the Disney Corporation has bought up Marvel Comics, you can read a bit about it here, but you've already got the message. This causes one to ask a few big questions like will Hannah Montana be Spiderman's new love interest and will the cast of High School Musical will be joining the X-Men?

Apparently that won't be the case and the Mouse will give Marvel the autonomy that Pixar or ABC or ESPN enjoys, so that's good. Maybe we don't need to ask how Disney will affect Marvel, maybe it will work the other way around. That seems to be what this guy thought over here anyway.

Yeah it's been a while, but so it goes . . . after all you do get what you pay for don't you?

So what's new? Lots probably, but the only thing to pops to mind is that I got a new set of eyeglasses delivered to my door for $27 from these guys here. That's big news. Otherwise I've just had things that I'd rather in the real world than spend time here. But I'm back . . . for today anyway.

So did you hear that Greyhound will be cutting bus service (make your own jokes about beheadings on the bus) in Northwestern Ontario & Manitoba? Yep apparently they are and they're blaming the government for it saying that they're losing too much money operating the rural routes that the government is making them run. True I don't know,

If you're into metal you're bound to think that the potential concert tour that Kerry King mentions in this article would be a full on metal onslaught. I think I'd buy a ticket for that show, and I've seen all those bands at least once in the past.

There's something very appealing about an adventure like that, but I suppose it's not for everyone. But we do have one thing in common, I too enjoy pleasing myself day after day.

Yeah I'm back with another short but sweet one.

Maybe you're in the market for a 2010 Camaro, and if you are you might want to have a look at the 68 point dealer delivery checklist, you know so you can give the car a good once over with the common problems they're having with this car, like broken transmission output shafts. Although since that same tranny is used in several other sports cars it's more likely a bad batch of transmissions than a problem with that transmission as a whole.

I still love my Camaro, but the 2010 has mine beat hands down power and performance wise. But I guess that's the difference between three and four hundred horsepower eh?

Now let's shift gears from awesome cars to awesome actors, and how can you get more awesome than Mickey Rourke? I mean this is the man who told Iron Man 2 Director Jon Favreau that he wanted his character in the film to get drunk and argue with his pet parrot, or at least according to this he did. Told you he was awesome, but wait it gets better.

Seems that recently while partying in London he ended up with a statue of Christ (and who hasn't?) and punching the shit out of a traffic barrier (and who hasn't wanted to?). Good times, good times. But it gets better, check out the top 7 awesome things that you didn't know about Mickey.

And now this is a must share bit of movie news, even if it doesn't involve Mr. Rourke, but here's the trailer for Tim Burton's production of Alice in Wonderland starring none other than Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. I'm looking forward to this film, Burton & Depp are great at what they do and when they do it together it's even better and the Alice in Wonderland stories are great, even if they were written by a man with an unhealthy attraction to little girls for a little girl. But that being said, do read the books.

Did you know that Heinz has been selling their ketchup (remember how revolutionary the squeeze bottle was when it came out?) in Canada for 100 years now? Well according to them they have (I can only vouch for the last 30 or so years personally) and to celebrate and to thank Cannucks for slathering this oh so popular condiment on nearly everything imaginable they cooked up this recipe for ketchup cake (trust me the recipe's there, scroll down a bit).

If you make it let me know how it is. Or better yet bring over a piece to share with me. After all if it weren't for me you wouldn't have cooked up the ketchup cake to begin with, now would you?

Or like a tornado to be more precise. If you haven't heard yet late last week the not quite nearby but in the region town of Ear Falls was stuck by a tornado which killed two men from Oklahoma (how's that for shitty luck? You leave Tornado Alley in the US and go on holiday to an area where tornado's are rumours and things that happen on the news and you're killed by one? I guess when it's your time it's your time) and as of my last researching one man was still missing.

I'm glad that tornadoes remain something that are on the news for me . . . give me 40 below instead anytime . . . and I think you'd say the same too, unless of course you're aware of something that I am not like tornado proof mittens or something.

Onto something completely unrelated, I've never really understood the attraction to the shiny giny (I figure it's some sorta attraction to youth or similarly pedo or maybe it's just so you swim faster) but he folks over at Playboy have taken the time classify the hair down there (their term not mine) into a rather in depth hierachy assumably so everyone is using the vernacular when discussing such things and/or taking bets on the amount or style of pubic hair on the next stripper to grace the stage at your local titty bar. Why even Ginger Spice is taking the time to check to see which category she falls into.

While we're on the topic of Playboy, I'm sure everyone has fantasized about doing the no pants dance with a centrefold or two but you're not Hef so what's a kid to do? Well start saving your pennies because here's a list of of Playboy centrefolds who'll shag you silly for cash. Good information to have kicking about I suppose. Worry's for another day, let the live action musical play down in Fraggle Rock. Yep that's right kids according to the jerks over at AICN there's a live action musical version of Fraggle Rock in the works, you can read just a little bit about it here if you like. IMDB says the film will have a 2011 release. Live action Fraggles? I dunno, what's wrong with puppet Fraggles and dudes in big suits playing the Gorgs? And the blue screen placing the tiny Fraggles in frame with the giant Gorgs would be a whole lot better now.

Until I actually see something I'll assume that it will be at least as good as the TV show (hey admit it it was good and you liked it and you still sometimes watch the reruns on Teletoon Retro). I just wonder who will play the old not so successful inventor guy who tossed all of Uncle Travelling Matt's postcards in the wastepaper basket.

And oh yeah, is it just me, or was Junior Gorg at least a little bit retarded?

Speaking of Teletoon Retro, what happened to Rocket Robin Hood and why no Adventures of the Mighty Hercules. If you're reading this Senior VP in Charge of Pleasing Geeks Who Never Grew Up(oh and I know you do) over at TTR get on that shit, will you.

Yeah yeah it's a been a long time, but maybe I've been busy doing stuff in real life having great adventures (like rocking out at the Winnipeg stop of the Canadian Carnage Tour - check out the concert videos on Youtube, the Winnipeg Sun Review and the Winnipeg Free Press Review) and shit like that. Or not. I'll let you decide on that, but no matter I'm back here after a month and half and plan to hammer out something for my fan.

So in the past couple weeks I'm sure your Celebrity Death Beeper has been ringing off the hook with the deaths of Farrah Fawcett (like the guys in 2 Cents said The Dead Don't Rest for the Beautiful - but she had a great spread in Playboy in the mid-90's, check it yo), Micheal Jackson (still creepy even when dead, the question is, is he creepier dead or alive? Say No to Sioux Lookout's "No-Name Subdivision"

I'm not the most politically active son-of-a-gun around but a petition has been started on ipetitions here asking the Municipality not to go ahead with the proposed "No Name Subdivision", so if you think this is a bad idea as well you might want to sign it as well.

If not sorry to have to bothered you, oh wait, I'm not bothering you, you stopped by here, technically you're bothering me. If you could pass this along to others who might be interested and/or affected that'd be great. Me I don't think this is great a idea, at least not at the moment. As everyone (I think) is aware we're in the midst of an economic downturn, the mad demand for housing and building lots here in town appears to be slowed down (take a look at all the houses and lots available here, here, here, here and here) and giving land to private developer when it wasn't done in the past doesn't seem right either. But at the same time you can't fault them for asking, I mean after you can ask for the moon (or a solid gold hummer in a solid gold Hummer), but you're not necesarily going to get it.

This is going up before council on May 20, so time really is of the essence.

Scrap the Long Gun Registry

Not sure if this is up your road or not, but here is a link to an online petition (with a print-out-able version as well in case you still know people who aren't e-savvy like us) to abolish Canada's wasteful long gun registry program from the fine people at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.

I know I'm all for it (even if it might make as big a difference as pissing in the ocean) and as of my signing there were 30,666 signatures as of this morning, 378 more since I signed yesterday morning. Even if you don't own guns you might want to consider supporting this just to try to help stop the government from pissing away your hard earned tax dollars (assuming you pay taxes that is) on a completely ineffective program who's sole purpose seems to be creating a false sense of security for people who don't understand the situation.

Anyway - please share the link with anyone you think would be interested.

PS - I don't have a bunker and am not stockpiling canned goods . . . but I might start, you never know when World War Z might break out and I want to be prepared.

Good morning iPhriends, how's it going? The sun is shining brightly and it stopped snowing yesterday around dinner time, although there was a thick frost on everything when I got up this morning . . . but let's hope winter had its last hurrah for a while. I've had my fill. It's nearly May and I still have the heat on.

I *finally* got to see the Watchmen film Friday night at our local theatre and let me tell you it was worth the wait. I think they did a very good job of translating the books to the screen and look forward to purchasing the DVD release with up to one extra hour of footage.

If you seen the Watchmen I think you'd have to agree that Jackie Earle Haley, the man who played Rorschach in that film (and Kelly in the Bad News Bears), he'll make for a great, and much darker, Freddy Krueger in the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street reboot (according to this he is anyway).

Oh and those of you are interested how's about some pics of Malin Akkerman (the actress who played the Silk Spectre II in the film) forgetting the rule about wearing gitch under your skirt, especially when getting in and out of automobiles and you're famous and people like to take pictures of you.

You know I'm always planning for World War Z and think that it would be in your best interest if you did as well, because well you know I care. So what's your zombie contingency plan? If you haven't come up with one on your own yet perhaps you can read these 11 examples and you can work on your own. You know better to be prepared, like the boy scouts say "Hope for the best and prepare for the worst."

As far as I know today is Earth Day. If you're anything like me you're going to celebrate by driving to work in a V8 (and no I haven't modified my hippy mobile to run on shitty tasting vegetable cocktail) powered vehicle a distance that can be easily walked in under ten minutes. But hopefully you're a better person than I am. I'm sure local school kids will be out picking garbage (if that's not too dangerous for your precious little snowflakes to do anymore) today which is a good thing because in this town it seems there's a general wide held misconception that throw away coffee cups from Timmy Ho's (which have travelled at least 60 miles from the nearest store to get here, how's that for a carbon foot print?), Robin's Donuts and (gasp) yes even Roy Lane are completely biodegradable and/or provide excellent shelter for the elusive Northwestern Ontario Land Hermit Crab so they tossed where ever the cup is emptied.

I guess it could be worse, after all it could be 6 pack yolks.

No matter, in honour of the day here's a slide show showing some of Mother Nature's best ideas (our weather as of late is not even close to being on this list) and how the most advanced (and hairless) apes on the planet are doing their best to mimic them for our own profit & gain. The bit about the termite mounds is pretty interesting.

And you know when it comes to the environment not everything sounds bad is bad, like until reading this I had no idea that toxic lakes were good things, or at least could be for migraine sufferers.

And well you gotta show both sides of the story, maybe, well okay you do when it supports your cause I suppose, but here's an interesting article talking about the downsides of green jobs, like how the cost over 2 jobs somewhere else . . . but as long as that somewhere else isn't your somewhere else, who cares, right?

First off let me open with "Fuck this weather, fuck it in its stupid ass". I've had enough of this, and we're not flooding out or anything, just 3/4's the way through April still with snow on the ground, and oh yeah some of it's nice and fresh. Ah well maybe a pic of Jenn Aniston topless will chase away the weather related blues.

Did you know/realise that today is the 10th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting rampage? If you're rocking this sweet shirt from T Shirt Hell you probably already knew that though. Oh how time flies, eh? And now this has become part of culture and language.

Also if you haven't heard legendary (??) porn star and Ivory Snow box model Marilyn Chambers was found dead at age 56 in her trailer home. More here if you're interested. At one time I had a copy of Behind the Green Door on VHS . . . I don't recall anything about so either I didn't watch it (unlikely) or it wasn't that stand out.

And here's some interesting news for the (non-Somali type) pirates (learn the shocking truth about pirates here) out there - the four founders of The Pirate Bay have been sentenced to one year in prison for copyright infringement. You can read more about it here, but don't fret about the Pirate Bay going down, I hear Google is just as good as anything else for searching out the torrents.

The short week that follows.

Yeah so I made it through the Easter weekend, which I'm lucky enough to have four days off for, how'd you fair? It might be a little late, but here's an interesting list of ten things you didn't know about Easter from Time. But where's Eostre?

In keeping with the season, here's a list of 7 things from pop culture that apparently piss Jesus off. And no I don't think they mean that dude from Old Mexico who takes care of your lawn.

Keeping with the religious theme, dare you look into the flaming pit of hell? It's horrible and not appropriate for work. But don't say I didn't warn you.

Now I just have to wonder, where do you get that done, and how do you start that conversation with the guy on the other side of the counter?

If you still watch Saturday Night Live you might have already seen this sketch the other weekend, but if you are still watching SNL, I have to ask is it worth it? Before Tina Fey left if I was watching I'd flip over to NBC around 11 (that's central time) knowing that weekend update was going to be on shortly after that, then stop watching after that. After Tina Fey left, I stopped watching . . . but then funny thing, I've never watched a single episode of her new show 30 Rock. Go figure.

You know I think it's true, cats don't care.

Thanks to this sweet gear now any kid can blow up the Death Star. Combine that stuff with your Taun Taun sleeping bag and you'll the coolest kid camping out on the sidewalk waiting to get into the next Star Wars Celebration (that's celebration, not convention, apparently they're touchy about that shit) to hear Billy Dee Williams ramble aimlessly/incoherently about waist versus full length capes and whether or not Colt 45 really works every time. Well okay maybe not the coolest kid, but you'll be cooler than these people, that I can promise.

Maybe you'd be better off with this Death Star on your camp out, if times get tough you can always eat it before feasting on the tender well marbled flesh of your compatriots.

You know, I'm a fan of concerts, I loves me some live music . . . I have to say that one thing I've never done is crowd surf, doubt I ever will, but I've pass people along and thrown people up on top of the crowd, but I don't know if any of those experiences top these. I don't know about you, but this one is a personal favourite.

I think I made it through unscathed, although you might think that meeting about there being a new employment policy at work yesterday going into effect that day, but that there weren't copies available for us at the moment, could have been an April Fool's prank . . . but it wasn't. It's no secret I love cover tunes, I'm telling you that all the time, well a Ukrainian band took Katy Perry's Hot N Cold and turned it into this, which is pure unadulterated win in my humble opinion.

This one was too good not to share, and it'll make you think twice before you take a bologna sammich from anyone who's giggling even a little.

Speaking of bologna, did you know that apparently lobster is the new bologna? Yeah sure pull on the other one, it's got bells. I'll believe that when I can get a pound of lobster in the deli for under $2.

Hmmm once again I find myself listening to Iced Earth and wondering what to talk about this morning, so it's likely going to be all over the map again . . . so let's start out with a bit of a point to make . . . the local paper is often thin on stuff to put in it, I mean it's not every week that you can slip in an advert thinly disguised as an article for a local merchant (BTW where's the story about the new candy store in town?) but the March 25 edition went into great detail with an almost daily breakdown of the local OPP detachment's call out stats for the March Break week.

Normally the paper won't print anything controversial or negative about the town, but if you were passing through or just happened to pick up a paper and look at it, you would think that was run of the mill and only contribute to the sometimes ill informed perception that many have of this town, but this week they chose to do something a little different I suppose. I just think it's looks bad for the town and the residents of the town, or maybe this is going to be a regularly weekly section in the paper, but I've got my doubts. It was probably a one off because the local OPP detachment sent the paper a press release with the information in it.

But that's just me, what do I know . . . well okay maybe don't answer that right now.

Morning all . . . what to talk about today, well if you didn't know there's a live action film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are coming out this October. You can check out the trailer for it on the Youtubes here if you're so inclined. I know this is a must see film for me . . . the book was always one of the greats, and I still want a pair of those sweet pajamas that Max had, but after hearing it read at a friend's funeral it became a whole lot more powerful for me.

Let's hope the don't Transformers this one, eh?

So what's a geek to do on a Friday night without BSG? I'm at a loss, but I'm sure it'll involved sitting in front of a flickering screen of one type or another.

For some reason the Teeny Little Super Guy from Sesame Street just popped into my head. Talk about random eh? Well I guess he does just pop right up before your eyes. There's a bunch of videos on Youtube here if you're interested in a little childhood reminiscing.

After reading this Calvin & Hobbes comic I've come to realise that they prophets of our age and I think I should look into getting more Calvin & Hobbes books to better prepare myself for the rest of what life might have in store for me. Although the comic stopped over ten years ago, it still has one of the finest goodbyes I've ever seen and one helluva a fine piece of advice for life, don't you agree?

And finally I think I'll destroy a little bit of your childhood . . . we all know there's a GI Joe movie coming out this summer right? And we're all hoping that it won't be as bad as we think it's going to be right? We'll kids there's nothing left to hope for because now that Cobra Commander has been revealed I don't see how they're going to be able to save this movie. It was today in 1942 that the Nazis started shipping Jews to Auschwitz.

In other related news the original plans for the camp were found in a Berlin apartment. You can read about it here, and see the plans themselves and some words in German here. I think there'd be something strange and powerful I think about holding those plans in your hands . . . and I thought it was pretty cool when I got my hands on plans for the old Catholic school here in town.

And I can take some pleasure in knowing that I can draft better than the Nazi's Leindraftencorps. Ubermensch mein ass!

I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again, if you haven't read Maus, do yourself a favour and do it.

In other sad news surrounding this place Auschwitz Museum is struggling to preserve the site as nature is reclaiming it. You can read more about it here if you're so inclined. I suppose it's too much to expect something hastily built as a temporary facility to stand the ravages of time and nature. I haven't been there but i surely hope that they can pull it off and save this place. Not every museum has to be a happy place.

I read this article about a couple of deaths that came from someone starting to take apart a construction crane while people were still using it, and it being, well at least partially, blamed on lack of training. You know it's not the lack of training that had this cat taking the bolts holding everything together while it was still in use, it was the over abundance of stupid.

Trust me on that one, if you're old enough to turn a wrench and haven't figured out that gravity makes things fall down go boom, fuck you don't even have to know it's gravity, and you haven't figured out that eventually things fall to ground, there's no hope for you.

Meh what can you do eh? And all the really stupid people in the world make the rest of us look a whole lot better, don't they?

Oh hey are you a fan Jessica Biel (not to be confused with Jennifer Beals)? Are you a fan of Jessica Biel's boobs? Well you're in luck, here you go. I don't know about you, but I find this offensive and cause for concern, seems that our laid back, stubby drinking, 'Roo ramming, ute driving mates down under (or at least their elected officials) are planning to censor the entire interwebs for the whole of the country.

The whole of the proposed list is supposed to be available online at WikiLeaks but the site won't load up for me. If you're interested in checking out give it a go and lemme know how it is. Apparently the websites on the banned list run the gamut with everything from kiddie porn to online poker to a dentist . .. oh and apparently WikiLeaks itself. To me this is too much, I don't think that government should step in and censor something like this in the name of the children (oh dear Gord won't someone think of the childrens!).

If a country who's supposed to be all about freedom of choice and G'Day Mates and tossing shrimps on the barbie wants to join to ranks of countries like China who are filtering the internet for the good of their people, who's next? We're awfully regulated here in Canada, so let's hope the Right Honourable Stephen Harper doesn't start to think this is a good idea and lock down our interwebs. After all we are the true north strong and free.

If you've got kids you're likely a parent, act like one. Teach your kids something about something other than pissing and moaning and how everyone gets a gold star. If you instill the right values into them they'll be all right and even if they do come across this stuff on the internet, by accident or on purpose, they'll still turn out all right. Or if you are a parent and you think this is the way to go don't filter out my internet, put some cyber nanny net filetering software on your own computer. The government shouldn't be raising your kids, you should be.

I mean if the government came along and mandated what your kids would wear and what you'd feed them and when you'd hit the fucking roof. Unless of course they also paid for it, then I'm sure a lot of parents would be cool with it, whatever, after all WoW ain't going to play itself, bars won't stay open without thirsty patrons and if you don't stuff money in a stripper's cleavage, who will?

Oh yeah and if you're a kid who hasn't figured out Google yet, you're hopeless and your parents probably don't need to lock out anything on the net, but just in case this is apparently how you disable the cyber nanny software your mum put on the computer.

I didn't grow up with the internet, and maybe that's a good thing. I know it meant I had to go to this building full of things called books to look stuff up called a Library when I wanted informaton on something, and I used to buy things called magazines to keep up on current news and happenings . . . and it really would have hacked the bottom out of the value of those grainy VHS tapes of porn recorded off the big dish that everyone had stashed somewhere.

No well, so it goes. Anyway since we're sorta in that vein already, how about some cool old Soviet Union propaganda posters? I'm not quite sure what it is but I'm a big fan of propaganda posters in general, maybe not always their message (when I can read it) but there's something about the style of them, the art, the window into a past way of thinking or the window in the past's way of trying to convince someone to think your way that I really find appealing.

Well if you're anything like me, and if you have any hopes of being awesome it'd be in your best interest to be, you have spent and still spend a good chunk of your television viewing on cartoons. If you animate, I'll try to watch it . . . anyway remember Inspector Gadget? And no I don't mean the film with Matthew Broderick or the really crummy sequel with that squinty guy from 3rd Rock from the Sun, the animated TV series with the Inspector voiced by Don Adams of Get Smart fame.

Anyway back to the matter at hand I'm sure you recall how in the cartoon you never saw Dr. Claw's face, only his claw and the back of his chair . . . and if you were anything like me you always figured there was some episode of the show that showed his face and you just never caught it. Yeah been slacking about putting stuff up here again . . . I guess I've been busier more important things? Yeah I hate to say it, but sometimes it happens. No matter I'm back here today, and after all it's quality, not quantity, right? So let's have at it . . . since it is March Break and I'm not heading down to South Padre Island or anything like that.

This video came highly recommended, and all I have to say is what is that kid on and where can I get some?

I'm sure I've mentioned here before that the film Hellraiser is being redone, and this time with input from Clive Barker, the man who wrote the novella that the film was based on. So hopefully it will have more of the original story in it than what the first film did, although that movie was pretty cool, which probably had a lot to do with Doug Bradley's portrayal of Pinhead.

Speaking of here's a first look at the new Pinhead for the new film . . . different but the similar. I won't pass judgement until I see it in context.

From the current quasi-celebrity news file, or obits page I guess, former WWe wrestler Test aka Andrew Martin died just recently, you can read more about it here, but there isn't much info out there yet. But let's see . . . pro wrestler, early 30's, dead in apartment . . . I'm going with the classic heart attack from steroid and coke use that is oh so prevalent amongst his profession.

One of the better parts of a great book was when Roddy Piper made dedicated the book to all the guys he used to work with who weren't there anymore, and listed them and there was a lot, maybe more than you'd think. You'd think these guys would figure this shit out, but I guess the ride is good enough that you don't complain about it being short.

In music news infamous Norwegian Black Metal icon, former Burzum front man and church burner Varg Vikernes is being released from prison after serving his term for the murder of Mayhem guitarist Øystein Aarseth aka Euronymous. If you're interested you can read more about it here. Several years ago I met someone who had spoken with Varg on the phone from prison and what should come as no surprise is that he's very charismatic. Welcome back to society Varg, try to be good this go around, eh?

If you'd like to learn more about the Black Metal scene I'd recommend you read Lords of Chaos, it's a really good read, a little grim at times, but worthwhile.

Check out this trailer for what might be one of the finest films released this year, Lesbian Vampire Killers. The title alone screams win, but I've been let down before. Damn you, damn you to hell Vampires versus Zombies, lucky for us the trailer looks great. This film might even be better than Zombie Strippers.

Since the Watchmen film comes out this Friday I think it's appropriate to take a peek at The 7 Stages of Nerdgasm: A Fanboy Awaits the Watchmen Movie. And speaking from experience, that list is pretty accurate.

Let this article be a lesson to you, don't piss off the Mary Kay Lady - the Avon Lady go right ahead.

According to this article Faith No More is (almost) reuniting (read the band's official statement), less guitarist Big Sick Jim, for some shows in Europe this summer. FNM is one of the bands that I've always wanted to see but never had the chance to . . . and since I only won my $20 back in the Millionaire Life draw on the weekend I won't be able to jet on over to see them this go around either. No worries, being filthy rich would have changed me anyway . . . step up from taxi cabs and crack whores to limousines and super models.

For something a little on the local, okay regional, side; if you're from Northwestern Ontario you've no doubt heard the expression Nipigon Nylons in reference to your wool socks, well seems that some inspired entrepreneurs have gone out and got themselves a trademark for the phrase and no doubt have a three step plan to getting rich. I'm just not sure what step two is.

So last night for whatever reason while Sportscentre was flipped to after not watching RAW TSN's Jennifer Hedger came up in conversation, likely because she was on the TV in front of us, one thought that she was on a sex talk show, and for some reason I thought that she had been naked in a movie or TV show. I couldn't find her naked, but here's a vid of her making out with another girl on The Lofters. Not the best girl on girl kiss I've seen, but kudos for trying.

I'm almost a year late to sign on, but doesn't this look like a great trip? Sure beats the hell of the Front Street Pub Crawl, involving drinks at three establishments and a tubesteak on the way home. BTW the Tavern (to the people using Trip Advisor, please note it is not the #1 restaurant in town, you want somewhere to eat here ask me I'll point you in a direction) is open for business again, so let's hope the rest of the building doesn't decide to topple over on us.

A Big Day in History

Well contemporary pop culture history really . . . but if you weren't aware of it, it really is, not only did AC/DC front man Bon Scott choke to death in a friend's car on his own vomit after a night of hard boozing 29 years ago today (I don't know about you but I'm not much of an AC/DC fan but I prefer the Bon Scott era AC/DC to the Brian Johnson era AC/DC . . . but this is coming from a guy who has zero AC/DC records in his collection so that has to say something too) but six years ago today in Rhode Island Great White burnt a club down and killed some fans (or people trying to get in out of the rain), 100 if you want to be exact, and their guitarist with their on stage pyrotechnics.

But wait, there's more; four years ago today gonzo journalist/writer/drug fiend Hunter S. Thompson suicided in his Woody Creek, CO home with a shotgun.

But enough of the history for now eh, ever wonder if Winnipeg really exists or if it's just something that Hollywood made up for a good laugh because the name sounds funny (hey stop laughing Dildo, Newfoundland)? Yeah me either because I've been there and I've seen it shine and shit and come close to see its downtown core go for a swim in the Red River, which sounds about as appealing as eating the cereal that shares its name. No matter, here's a sweet collection of clips of Winnipeg being name dropped into bunch of TV shows and movies . . . most logical explanation is there are a lot of people from that part of Canada doing a whole lot of writing for TV & movies . . . or everyone has a nice giggle when they see the name on a map of Canada.

Well well well looks like today is Friday the 13th . . . . oooooh scary. But do you know why it's bad juju? Yeah neither does anyone else really, but there's lots of reasons why it could be, don't believe me, Google it or check out the Wikipedia article on it.

No matter, it's Friday the 13th and a (sorta) new Friday the 13th film opens today . . . I don't know about you but I'm quite looking forward to this - I'm positive it won't be as good as Rob Zombie's remake/reboot of the Halloween franchise, but I'm in this far with the Friday the 13th films so I can't stop now.

But you thought Friday the 13th was bad, wait until you experience Saturday the 14th! Actually Saturday the 14th isn't as scary this year, being St. Valentine's Day. Every wonder why you get and give loads of little cards and your sweetie gives you sweets on this day? Or just happy to get them? If you're interested in the history of it, the History Channel has loads of stuff up here.

Quite possibly more important than Valentine's Day tomorrow, it's Louis Riel Day on Monday - only in Manitoba and parts of Saskatchewan, I believe, is the man a hero, he is the Father of Manitoba after all, and I think pretty much everywhere else in the Country he was/is just a crazy guy (literally) who lead a couple rebellions against the Federal Government . . . but you can thank him it was one of those rebellions that got the railroad pushed through to the West.

Well not really sorry but I have been ignoring my blogly duties as of late, but I've been busy doing actual stuff, which is a bit of a change.

Anyway I thought I'd get back at with some hometown updates, seems that my lovely little town has managed to make national news again, this time for the local police tasing a 14 year old girl they had in custody, for allegedly picking the paint off a cell wall. The girl's family is now suing the OPP for $500, 000.00 for this, you can read more about it here if you're so inclined.

Now I don't know what really happened there, but I'm positive it's somewhere between what each party is saying, that's just human nature, but I'm thinking to get tased in the first place you've got to be doing something a little more than picking at paint, but that's just me . . . and maybe I'm a more reasonable sort than most . . . but I doubt it.

And just in case I would like to offer a special deal to law enforcement agencies out there, I will give a super special rate, 6 seconds of tasing for only $400, 000.00. What a steal . . . if I get an advance on the payment I'll even travel to you on my own dime. Think about it.

In other local news you may remember a post from about a year ago about a year and a half ago Mr. Charles Hattie, who's name still to this day gets me traffic on this blog, being charged with sexual assault and attempted murder was found guilty of sexual assault but not attempted murder a couple weeks ago in a Kenora court. The Kenora paper's article on this conviction can be found here.

Here's to hoping he gets a taste of his own medicine while incarcerated.

In other local news, the local enhancement committee (who don't seem to have a website, or at least not one that Google can find for me) is pushing a new logo for the town. Personally I don't think that this is time for changing the logo, given the economic times we're in and spending money, even if it is from an enhancement grant that the Municipality received, on something like this looks bad.

I think the costs of this change are much further reaching than what is expected as well, as this will mean scrapping every piece of currently branded municipal gear and changing every sign (including the lovely new street signs in the downtown that look just the lovely new street signs in Dryden's downtown purchased with the enhancement grant money), piece of letter head, business card . . . oh hell you see where this is going.

Granted the current logo looks like it was done by a kid, and maybe it was, but I think if you want to do something get someone who knows what they're doing to rework and clean that up and make it look like something churned out professionally. Love it or hate the current logo shows what you see when you look west from the town beach and shows what built this town. To show the native history of the area you can take out the guy the Lund and put the native guy in the canoe back in . . . just try to make him look less like an Eskimo this time, please.

The town has the response to the new logo on their website here - seems that from quickly skimming this that most of the people who responded in time were in favour of the new logo. Once again I think that I am learning about this stuff too late in the game to make a difference . . . and after all the town does what the town wants anyway. The new logo is being presented to the Economic Development Commission at 4:45 this afternoon at the Community Development Office if you're interested in checking that out. I should really get more involved with stuff, but getting involved is work . . .

But we're back baby yeah. Did you miss us? I'm sure you did, I know I'd miss me terribly if I weren't around me.

Where have I been you ask? Well I say you're nosey and want to know if you're a cop or writing a book or something . . . but I guess I can share . . . not last week but the week before I went to spend a week at the Blau Coste Verde resort outside a little town in Cuba called Guardalavaca about an hour's coach ride from Holguin City. Good clean fun for the whole family, if your whole family likes to drink rum and smoke cigars . . . and if they do I might like meeting them. Hey don't get your hopes up I only said might.

Last week I toughed out a three day week at work and spent the last two days painting this very room I'm sitting in, and just yesterday I learned that apparently I painted the room a shade of green. No matter what you call the colour it looks good.

But hey I'm back now and I'm sure my irregular posting of irregular topics will get back on its erratic schedule . . . at least until the end of the month when I'm out of town for a week for work.

And how about that Superbowl? Big ups to the Steelers for winning it, it's what I expected but I was still pulling for the Cards and it was a game that was worth watching right up until the end, or at least I thought it was.

And something a little closer to home, seems that Mr. Richard Brozinski, allegedly aka Richer Lapointe, has generated a whole lot of traffic here for me, so thanks for that. Anyone have any more news or information on this? I ask because I'm a little curious and this bloke opennova@sasktel.net left a comment here asking for some local information on Mr. Brozinski to help build a case against him in Winnipeg, all I know I've said but if you want to help out please do. You can go and read the comment for yourself if you're interested in getting the whole of it.

Yep things are changing, disappearing and becoming defunct at an alarm rate . . . some good (remember smoking in airplanes?) some bad and some just meh (rotary dial phone anyone?). But someone has taken the time to compile some of histories rarest of the rare. There's some pretty neat stuff there and if you've got any lying around, and a ping pong table, I'm totally coming over to hang out way more often.

Like I said things are disappearing and here's a list of companies that are thought to disappear this calendar year. I'm sure there are earth shattering ramifications to each of these going under, but I don't know that I'll miss them, I mean it's not like I drive my Chrysler to Pier 1 while talking on a Nortel phone . . . much.

As for Chrysler going tits up, it won't be the first car maker to do it, don't believe check out this list ask yourself where the AMC, Packard & DeSoto dealers are now.

But maybe you like to see disappearance on a larger scale, if so check out this extinction timeline showing history from 1950 and predictions up to 2050 . . . go check it for yourself, I don't want to spoil the ending.

Another thing to fall to the wayside seems to be the mustache which is too bad because all know how important facial hair is (hmmmm maybe I need one of these?), but have no fear Spike has collected what they think are history's most important mustaches. A good collection I think, but history most important? Probably not, I mean Lanny MacDonald wasn't even on the list. Now that was a quality 'stache, and really a Canadian, or at least Western Canadian Icon. Don't believe me? Check it for yourself.

Speaking of Canadian Iconery how about that one burning thing that unites Canadians from coast to coast, hating Toronto, and now you can enjoy it movie style, with the tongue in cheek mockumentary "Let's All Hate Toronto" no doubt made by Torontonians . . . isn't it ironic, donchathink?

Well well well . . . don't you love it when your local small town gossip takes on a national angle? Of course we all do - but this is a good one, seems that one of the guys involved with saving the Flyers, our local SJIHL team, Richard Brozinski (who has recently resigned his position with the team), is in fact the guy in this article from CTV news.

You've got to love it when the man soliciting funds from local businesses to save a local hockey team may or may not be operating under an alias, wanted by Quebec Police (one can only assume that if he's wanted in Quebec he has to be a biker because we all know how much they love the outlaw bikers and their street wars in la belle Provence) and have ties to Karla Homolka and in Canada being associated with Homolka is like being in bed with the Devil who may or may not be Paul Bernardo.

I guess I'll have to look into the back issue of the Bulletin (see photo on page 8) where they talk about the plan to save the Flyers and compare the small grainy photo from the CTV article with the larger grainy photo from the paper to see if there's any resemblance between the two guys. What do you think?

Speaking of the local paper I wonder if this will get any coverage in it?

I can't vouch for the accuracy but the person who told me about it assures me that it came from their number one supplier of all the local hot goss. Accurate or not I'm sure people will be talking about this around coffee machines all over town and it is a good story - definitely something to jabber about hunched over your cup of Robin's coffee, while waiting in line at the post office or while trying to find an unbruised onion at the local grocery store.

Remember Video Hits? Remember Sam Taylor?

Why do I ask? I don't know, I've just been watching some videos on Youtube thinking of a time when I could actually waste time watching videos on TV, Pepsi Power Hour anyone? How about its younger cousin Loud?

Anyway it all started with the Butthole Surfers video for Who Was in my Room Last Night- then I checked out Ministry's Jesus Built My Hotrod. The for some reason I thought to check out STP's Sex Type Thing, then I thought to check out Megadeth's Sweating Bullets (why because the first time I heard STP play was when they opened for Megadeth at the Winnipeg Convention Centre in the mid 90's on the Symphony of Destruction Tour - Scott Weilland was rocking the bullhorn on stage and invited everyone to go out partying with them afterward . . . but I can't remember what bar he said, and not because I got so fucked up, I was I dunno 16 at the time).

Megadeth had me thinking Metallica (my first concert ever at the old Winnipeg Arena) so I cruised to check out their video for Whiskey in the Jar . . . I know it's not classic Metallica, but it's a great song and the video's awesome innit?

Then it was onto Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast - it's a great song off a great record but the video is more than a little weak. Then it was onto another of British Metal greats, Judas Priest's Breaking the Law which will forever make me think of Beavis & Butthead and setting my own personal land speed record.

From Priest to Sabbath and Iron Man and from there it was an easy step Ozzy's Crazy Train even if I couldn't find the video clip I wanted.

Oh well so it goes . . . well gotta get going maybe I'll add more later, maybe I won't. Until next time.

Well after two weeks off I'm back to work today, I wonder what strange and exciting things I will find when I return? I bet the faxes that I tried to send for two days prior to the Christmas break still haven't gone through.

No matter, gotta make that cheddar so I shouldn't complain too much . . . and after all in a week and a half I'm going to be off again for a bit better than a week. Life is rough. I should take some time off at the end of the month too.

No matter I'm sure you're well aware now that Israel (I'm thinking this is the only country created after World War 2 that's still on the map, can anyone confirm this?) has invaded the Gaza Strip again and they aren't going to let up, or at least that's what they say or more precisely what the BBC told me they said here.

But hey let's get down to why you're here - do you know what's more bad ass than the Batman? The Batman with nunchuk chainsaws that's what.

Hold onto your hats geeks, check this out. It looks like the fine people over at the Pottery Barn have brought back Star Wars bed sheets complete the classic retro design from when we were kids . . . in sizes all the way up to Queen. Order yours here; now how awesome is that?

Actually this might work out here as we've got a little bit of snow yesterday and last night and I believe there's more on the way, any way the crafters of this art made them by pressing their faces into fresh snow on cars to create a 3-D sculpture look. Pretty cool eh? Well cool as long as they don't use my car the no good punks.

Christmas might be over and done with for another year (which means in a week and a half chocolate hearts and Cupid cards will be hitting the shelves followed by marshmallow peeps and Cadbury's Easter Creme Eggs on February 15) but that doesn't mean we can have a look back at the wonders that was the 1985 Wishbook, back when the Christmas catalog was chock full of wonderful toys, not like how it is today all video games. It's crap I tells yah.

I know I've spent more than a few lines of this blog hammering on how much I'm looking forward to the March 6, 2009 release of The Watchmen film, but this article about the ongoing legal battle over distribution rights and a recent court ruling might put that release in jeopardy. The movie will get released, I have no doubt about that it just might take time as the two studios fight over payments and rights and royalties. And then it will be leaked to the interwebs before it's theatrical release and all will be appeased.

Legal proceedings be damned, how about watching a new video with some new clips from the film along with some nice interview voice over action with the movie's Director Max Snyder. How hard did you geek out while watching that? I bet you had to hit your inhaler pretty hard, didn't you?

I had no idea, but apparently there are real regular people kicking around out there in full costumed regalia fighting crime. You can read about these wanna be Batman here and here if you're inclined to. I guess now we know who watches the Watchmen. I wonder if they're taking applications for costumed evil super villain arch nemesisses (or is that nemesi?)?

And a dash of history - did you know that today is the 70th anniversary of Adolf Hitler being honoured as Time magazine's Man of the Year? I suppose anyone could be fooled by a charismatic madman with a Charlie Chaplin 'stache in the beginning.

Well today I'll sign off with one for the Willow that might convince her to give up vegetarian ways - seems that her beloved ancestral home of Iceland is not only rerouting motorways in efforts to not disturb the homes of their own special breed of fair folks but it's also crazy for hotdogs. I'd have to admit that after a night of binge drinking and 4 wheeling with Bjork a hotdog and a dip in a hot spring would be pretty nice.

Between the book that I'm currently reading, actually devouring, and watching episodes of The Long Way Down on the National Geographic Channel (if you're not working (like me), or considering shagging off work on Monday they're running a marathon of the ten episode series started at 10 AM Central Time) I've got the urge to have my own motorcycle adventure . . . granted it'll have to wait after all I am locked in the heart of winter and I think that I should get a larger bike for it, even if Ms. Pryce did make her journey from Alaska to the Southern Tip of South America on the same bike that I own (albeit different years), me on the bike is like two of her.

If you've never had the urge for such a trip yourself, perhaps the series (or McGregor & Boorman's other trip the Long Way Round) and the book will make you think that maybe this is something that I want to do as well . . . although it would be hard to get the kind of support that The Long Way guys got for the average person like you or I.

Well best be going now, almost time for another TV series that makes me want to take a little trip.
