Let's get ready get our geek on folks

As we're all aware Steampunk is wicked awesome and this steampunk Stormtrooper Helmet, Boba Fett and Princess Leia are fine examples of the genre. Now that's way cooler than these crochet Star Wars characters (but they are cool in their own right, just not as cool) don't you think?
.
If you're down with the steampunk you should check out China Mieville's novels Perdido Street Station, The Scar and Iron Council. Not only are the really good books by a good and imaginative author set in a very unique world, they have a great steampunk flavour going on in them.
.
I can't explain why, but I think steampunk is awesome. It probably appeals to me for the reason(s) as rat rods (how could you not want to drive one or two yourself - the car perv, but hey Rock-a-betty chicks aren't so bad either), Dickies and bowling shirts do.
.
Oh and a little more for the Star Wars fans out there - in case you needed any more proof that George Lucas hates you but loves your money (even if it needs to get funneled from your wallet to him through your kids) apparently he'd like to make a Jedi Babies series, because we all remember how awesome the Muppet Babies were.
.
Since I've knocked you down some, it's only fair that I build you back up with these awesome Star Wars pics. Almost makes up for that last link don't it?
.
Ever wonder what Stormtroopers do on their day off? Yeah me either, but here's the answers anyway. Pretty cool n'est pas? I think we're about even for the Jedi Babies thing, right?
.
And finally I will leave you with a little bit of time travel awesome.
.
And with that I'm outta here.
.
PS - looks like everyone's favourite bounty hunter has fallen on some hard, but awesome, times. Check it out for yourself.

More great news if you're still a fan of off the wall Canuck sketch-com, The Kids in the Hall have reunited to do an 8 episode mini-series called Death Comes to Town that will be airing on the CBC. The gist of the series is Death gets off the Greyhound in a small town and everyone in town becomes a suspect when the Mayor ends up dead. You can check out the trailer for the show here if you're interested and I know you are.
.
Looks pretty damned funny don't it?
.
This isn't quite local, but close enough and it might just be the strangest Google Winnipeg Street View ever (if you have a stranger one let me know about it) . . . I just want to know, do the people getting into the truck know about the guy lying in the bed?
.
Finally thanks to the fine folks over at Explore Music we now know who to blame for the fame and popularity of Nickelback, New Brunswick. Get behind a new band would you, you bastards. At first the popularity of Nickelback gave me some hope for the resurgence of guitar/bar rock (which trust me would be a good thing), but sadly know all it's given us is a Nickelback clones, which is super great if you happen to live in New Brunswick I suppose.
.
While we're talking music, how's about a nice video of fans being interviewed in an arena parking lot before a Slayer/Marilyn Manson show in Cali that makes me proud to be a metalhead. Oh and trust me, that guy's mum is a whore. And the parking lot before a metal is a lot like that, even when it's really really cold out.
.
You may have already seen this video already, but it's pretty awesome and I've got to share, it's the Muppets doing a video for Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. It's pretty awesome . . . but I'm a little biased after all I am fan of Queen & the Muppets.
.
And I'll sign off with a more holiday appropriate video of the Muppets again but this time rocking The Carol of the Bells. It's not quite the Trans Siberian Orchestra's version (or Peter Griffin's for that matter), but pretty cool none the less eh?
.
Until next time.

For My Loyal Fan

Yep, another post, and it's not even been a month. What's going on in the world? Well lots (I've been busy jumping motorcycles over mountains, try it for yourself, it's fun), but let's just focus on some of the funner bits for now eh? Maybe this is why I wasn't as regular on here as I could have been?
.
In case you too were disappointed with the GI Joe film (which would have been a lot more enjoyable for me if it weren't called GI Joe) like I was (but I was disappointed exactly how I thought I was going to be disappointed, so is that really disappointment? A question for the ages, something you can figure out after determining what the sound of one hand clapping is) I think you'll thoroughly enjoy The Ballad of GI Joe over at Funny or Die.
.
Personally I think that was cast & costumed a whole lot better than the film was, at least you could tell who the Joes were just by looking at them . . . and Henry Rollins as Duke? How much better can you get?
.
None, none better.
.
Hey all that being said I enjoyed the GI Joe film more than Transformers 2, and the funny thing about that is I thought Transformers 2 was better than the first Transformers film, but not even half as good as the Transformers animated movie.
.
Oh and for the record, the GI Joe animated movie sucked balls too, so I don't hold everything from when I was a kid in high regards . . . but this does lead me to ask when are they going to make another Masters of the Universe film, but that's a cherished childhood memory that could due with being smashed on the rocks of Hollywood ineptitude.
.
Oh wait, they are and apparently it's slated for a 2011 release. I will keep hopes high for this for now, after all it will be hard to out bad the Dolph Lundgren MotU film.
.
In other news that has geeks foaming at the mouth, looks like the Disney Corporation has bought up Marvel Comics, you can read a bit about it here, but you've already got the message. This causes one to ask a few big questions like will Hannah Montana be Spiderman's new love interest and will the cast of High School Musical will be joining the X-Men?
.
Apparently that won't be the case and the Mouse will give Marvel the autonomy that Pixar or ABC or ESPN enjoys, so that's good. Maybe we don't need to ask how Disney will affect Marvel, maybe it will work the other way around. That seems to be what this guy thought over here anyway.
.
Well that's her for now, but I will leave you today with a collection of some great motivational posters featuring Mark Twain quotes, because you can't go wrong with a little Twain.
.
Until next time.

Dance Your Cares Away

Worry's for another day, let the live action musical play down in Fraggle Rock. Yep that's right kids according to the jerks over at AICN there's a live action musical version of Fraggle Rock in the works, you can read just a little bit about it here if you like. IMDB says the film will have a 2011 release. Live action Fraggles? I dunno, what's wrong with puppet Fraggles and dudes in big suits playing the Gorgs? And the blue screen placing the tiny Fraggles in frame with the giant Gorgs would be a whole lot better now.
.
Until I actually see something I'll assume that it will be at least as good as the TV show (hey admit it it was good and you liked it and you still sometimes watch the reruns on Teletoon Retro). I just wonder who will play the old not so successful inventor guy who tossed all of Uncle Travelling Matt's postcards in the wastepaper basket.
.
And oh yeah, is it just me, or was Junior Gorg at least a little bit retarded?
.
Speaking of Teletoon Retro, what happened to Rocket Robin Hood and why no Adventures of the Mighty Hercules. If you're reading this Senior VP in Charge of Pleasing Geeks Who Never Grew Up(oh and I know you do) over at TTR get on that shit, will you.
.
And since I mentioned geeks, how's about closing off with a fine collection of some great examples of geek art & graffiti. If you get any of these you're not as cool as you thought you were.
.
Sorry.

What's the best part of a long weekend?

The short week that follows.
.
Yeah so I made it through the Easter weekend, which I'm lucky enough to have four days off for, how'd you fair? It might be a little late, but here's an interesting list of ten things you didn't know about Easter from Time. But where's Eostre?
.
In keeping with the season, here's a list of 7 things from pop culture that apparently piss Jesus off. And no I don't think they mean that dude from Old Mexico who takes care of your lawn.
.
Keeping with the religious theme, dare you look into the flaming pit of hell? It's horrible and not appropriate for work. But don't say I didn't warn you.
.
Now I just have to wonder, where do you get that done, and how do you start that conversation with the guy on the other side of the counter?
.
If you still watch Saturday Night Live you might have already seen this sketch the other weekend, but if you are still watching SNL, I have to ask is it worth it? Before Tina Fey left if I was watching I'd flip over to NBC around 11 (that's central time) knowing that weekend update was going to be on shortly after that, then stop watching after that. After Tina Fey left, I stopped watching . . . but then funny thing, I've never watched a single episode of her new show 30 Rock. Go figure.
.
You know I think it's true, cats don't care.
.
Thanks to this sweet gear now any kid can blow up the Death Star. Combine that stuff with your Taun Taun sleeping bag and you'll the coolest kid camping out on the sidewalk waiting to get into the next Star Wars Celebration (that's celebration, not convention, apparently they're touchy about that shit) to hear Billy Dee Williams ramble aimlessly/incoherently about waist versus full length capes and whether or not Colt 45 really works every time. Well okay maybe not the coolest kid, but you'll be cooler than these people, that I can promise.
.
Maybe you'd be better off with this Death Star on your camp out, if times get tough you can always eat it before feasting on the tender well marbled flesh of your compatriots.
.
You know, I'm a fan of concerts, I loves me some live music . . . I have to say that one thing I've never done is crowd surf, doubt I ever will, but I've pass people along and thrown people up on top of the crowd, but I don't know if any of those experiences top these. I don't know about you, but this one is a personal favourite.
.
And I will sign off today with something that does my heart good to see. Enjoy.
.
Until next time.

I want my BSG

Morning all . . . what to talk about today, well if you didn't know there's a live action film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are coming out this October. You can check out the trailer for it on the Youtubes here if you're so inclined. I know this is a must see film for me . . . the book was always one of the greats, and I still want a pair of those sweet pajamas that Max had, but after hearing it read at a friend's funeral it became a whole lot more powerful for me.
.
Let's hope the don't Transformers this one, eh?
.
So what's a geek to do on a Friday night without BSG? I'm at a loss, but I'm sure it'll involved sitting in front of a flickering screen of one type or another.
.
For some reason the Teeny Little Super Guy from Sesame Street just popped into my head. Talk about random eh? Well I guess he does just pop right up before your eyes. There's a bunch of videos on Youtube here if you're interested in a little childhood reminiscing.
.
After reading this Calvin & Hobbes comic I've come to realise that they prophets of our age and I think I should look into getting more Calvin & Hobbes books to better prepare myself for the rest of what life might have in store for me. You can check out a 30 day archive of the C&H comics here if you need a little boy and his tiger story fix. Although the comic stopped over ten years ago, it still has one of the finest goodbyes I've ever seen and one helluva a fine piece of advice for life, don't you agree?
.
And finally I think I'll destroy a little bit of your childhood . . . we all know there's a GI Joe movie coming out this summer right? And we're all hoping that it won't be as bad as we think it's going to be right? We'll kids there's nothing left to hope for because now that Cobra Commander has been revealed I don't see how they're going to be able to save this movie. Check it out here for yourself, if you dare.

I'll get you next time Gadget, next time . . .

Well if you're anything like me, and if you have any hopes of being awesome it'd be in your best interest to be, you have spent and still spend a good chunk of your television viewing on cartoons. If you animate, I'll try to watch it . . . anyway remember Inspector Gadget? And no I don't mean the film with Matthew Broderick or the really crummy sequel with that squinty guy from 3rd Rock from the Sun, the animated TV series with the Inspector voiced by Don Adams of Get Smart fame.
.
Anyway back to the matter at hand I'm sure you recall how in the cartoon you never saw Dr. Claw's face, only his claw and the back of his chair . . . and if you were anything like me you always figured there was some episode of the show that showed his face and you just never caught it. Well that might still be the case, but I doubt it so stop wasting your time watching the reruns and read on fair reader read on . . . seems that in the early 90's a toy company released a Dr. Claw action figure, that after you opened the package revealed his face. Wait wait wait, don't go scouring eBay for it just yet, you can check it out here if you're interested.
.
So now that you've had a look at it, is it just me or the picture of Dr. Claw you had in your head completely different from the action figure? Big ups for packaging the action figure with MAD Cat though.
.
Read more of about the face of Claw here . . . guess I'm not the first geek with an Internet connection to be let down by this revelation.
.
No matter, but that does segue nicely into Cracked's list of 7 Badass Cartoon Villains who Lost to Retarded Heroes doesn't it?
.
Is it just me or is this the coolest business card ever? Yeah you want some now too, don't you?
.
And now for something a little different, how about Kermit the Frog singing NIN's Hurt/spoofing Cash's video for the song? Pretty cool eh? If you know the guy who posted that particular video whack him with a stick for me not realising that Cash covered the tune, albeit his version is way better than Trent Reznor's original in my humble opinion. Watching Cash's video, it's just so much more powerful . . . or maybe I'm just a soppy git.
.
And while we're rocking the amphibian vibe, how's about Kermit covering Radiohead's Creep. God I loves me a good cover tune.
.
And finally, I'd like for you to read this article and tell me that my fear of horses is unfounded.

Itchy Feet

Between the book that I'm currently reading, actually devouring, and watching episodes of The Long Way Down on the National Geographic Channel (if you're not working (like me), or considering shagging off work on Monday they're running a marathon of the ten episode series started at 10 AM Central Time) I've got the urge to have my own motorcycle adventure . . . granted it'll have to wait after all I am locked in the heart of winter and I think that I should get a larger bike for it, even if Ms. Pryce did make her journey from Alaska to the Southern Tip of South America on the same bike that I own (albeit different years), me on the bike is like two of her.
.
If you've never had the urge for such a trip yourself, perhaps the series (or McGregor & Boorman's other trip the Long Way Round) and the book will make you think that maybe this is something that I want to do as well . . . although it would be hard to get the kind of support that The Long Way guys got for the average person like you or I.
.
Well best be going now, almost time for another TV series that makes me want to take a little trip.

Jump in bed and cover your head . . .

.
Just in case you're one of the Lucas fanboys (speaking of Fanboys, just when is that movie acutally going to be released?) who's still under the general disillusion that George makes quality entertainment and cares about anything other than making that money money yeah yeah here's an article that will set you straight, break your heart and/or cause you to wax philosophical about the Star Wars Holiday Special. Anyway it looks like a stage production of Star Wars is going to be going into production and will be premiering next year at London's O2 Arena.
.
.
That's enough Lucas slagging don't you think? In order to bring things back up how's about listening to Tucson's Hot Club band rock the Cantina Song from Star Wars?
.
And for a bit of Star Wars history, how about checking out some of the early storyboards for the 1st film/episode four from long long ago in a studio far far away back before the Millennium Falcon was cool looking. Pretty cool eh? I'm not totally gay for Star Wars like some I know but I have to admit it's pretty cool getting such a behind the scenes peek at a bit of geek history.
.
Ever notice how the best solutions to a problem are the simplest? Well this is fucking brilliant; seems that teens in Montgomery County have found a sweet way to exact revenge on people and screw with speed cameras at the same time.
.
Step 1 - borrow a car similar to the one driven the person you want to screw over.
.
Step 2 - print out a fake plate that matches that of the person you want to screw over and tape it over the plate on your car.
.
Step 3 - run the speed camera.
.
Step 4 - enjoy the fruits of your labour.
.
I told you simple and brilliant. I don't know someone didn't come up with this before.
.
Well that's her for now, but I will leave you with one last bit. I don't know about you, but if this were a TV show I'd watch it.
.
And oh yeah, have a merry fucking Christmas.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

No! It's Heroics! An ITV sitcom about superheroes who bitch and moan and with this season of Heroes being the weakest yet (Hey know what would be awesome? Everyone time travels all the time except for when it would makes sense.), but strangely enough still decent television which speaks volumes about the state of television, or at least the TV I watch, this might just be what the Doctorb (the 'b' is for bargain) ordered. Even if it's not don't you just love the premise of it?
.
You know what else is good TV? Lucy Daughter of the Devil that's what. It's a great one season cartoon show currently airing on Teletoon about, you guessed it, Lucy who is the anti-Christ, spawn of Satan and a human woman (in exchange for a Datsun 280-ZX). In this series Satan has a lovely collection of Cliff Huxtable sweaters and Jesus is back as well, but as a Hispanic DJ, DJ Jesus (pronounced Hey-Zues not Gee-zuss). I'm telling you, check it out, you'll love it.
.
If you thought Google Maps was cool (hey I can see my house from here and this is where I was yesterday), then you're going to love these pics showing a typical day in Britain from space. And if that didn't tickle your fancy perhaps you'd be more into photos from the World at Night Project.
.
Well I think that's it for now, better get off to work, after all I've got some nearacles to work this morning.

If My Head Were Made of Veal . . .

. . . what would it be worth?
.
Good news for those of you who got the reference there, according to this article The Kids in the Hall are coming back to the CBC and you know the article has to be accurate because it's being reported by the CBC. Granted from reading the article it doesn't sound like it's going to be the same sketch-com show they used to have, but I'm sure I'll still watch it . . . or at least want to watch it.
.
Now the big question is, will they use another Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet song for the show's theme tune?
.
After reading this article about a small town Saskatchewan woman who's death went unnoticed for 15 months I realised that there are many levels of hermitism to aspire to. Maybe some day you beloved reader can be that hermitty too. Gotta wonder how her utilities were being paid that whole time though.
.
Scary stuff that, so much for the close knittedness of the small town lifestyle eh? But let's balance out the scary with some funny, or better than some funny how about a nice video clip putting together the funniest movie moments from 1997 - 2007? Yeah I thought you'd like that, there are some definite winners in there, some truly epic funny fo' sho'.
.
Well that's her for now - but maybe you can help me out. I want to make some ribs, I want them ready when I get home from saving the world, aka work, so if anyone has a good slow cooker rib recipe they can recommend lemme have it.

On the first day of Giftmas my true love gave to me . . .

Well 'tis the season or close to it anyway, so let's get the giftmas flowing with some guy's collection of the top Christmas inspired music videos. I can say there are some real winners in that collections but I for one honestly cannot believe that The Fairytale of New York was left off that list - or hell any list of Christmas songs - I mean it's almost enough to make you want to go out and start a dysfunctional relationship with someone just so you can fight with each other like that. Only I hope your mental/special someone has a nicer smile than Shane MacGowan does.
.
Although it's another one that I do enjoy I'm not as surprised that it didn't make that list, but it easily could have, Bob & Doug MacKenzie's (who are coming back to TV in cartoon form) 12 Days of Christmas. I mean who doesn't want five golden tuques and 7 packs of smokes?
.
While we're rocking the 12 Days of Christmas, how's about taking a look at Twisted Sister's version of it, The Heavy Metal Christmas. In fact Twisted Sister released an entire Christmas record a couple years ago aptly called Twisted Christmas with twisted versions of other Christmas classics like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Come All Ye Faithful.
.
Where's Tipper Gore & the PMRC now?
.
And since I've already started to metal up your Christmas record collection how's about taking a look at Monster Ballad Xmas which I'm sure you've figured out now consists of hair metal bands doing Christmas songs, like Skid Row doing Jingle Bells, Dokken rocking Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Tom Keifer, from Cinderella, having a Blue Christmas.
.
And one last holiday song for today - forget about Sandler's Hanukkah Song because here's one for all your non-believing friends out there, The Atheism Song.
.
I know I kinda missed the boat (pun entirely intended) on this one, but here's a bit of a great online graphic novel telling the story of the first Thanksgiving, The First Thanksgiving: An Almost Graphic Representation. Trust me it's worth the read, it made me laugh, but then again I'm a bad person.
.
And from the bad news front, looks like everyone's favourite classic pinup girl, Ms Bettie Page, is critically ill after having a heart attack. I guess no matter how big a cult following you may or may not have sooner or later you will dance with the Reaper. Here's to speedy recovery. Here's Bettie in action from 1950 or maybe you prefer Bettie's pinup work? Or her bondage photos?
.
Well that's her for now, but I will leave you with a list of the 11 Lamest Blogs on the Net, thankfully this one didn't make the list this time . . . hows about your's?
.
That's it for today, now take off, eh.

Baby, if you ever wondered, wondered what ever became of me . . .

. . . I'm living on the air in Cincinnati, Cincinnati WKRP.
.
If you were a fan of the show you might be pleased to know that a TV station in Cincinnati has changed their name to WKRP along with their upgrade to digital broadcast. You can read more about it here, but what else there to know?
.
No word on whether or not it comes staffed with a wacky crew of misfits, but I'm sure there's a quirk or two in there. But can they compare to this motley crew? And don't forget that just because this guy broke dropping things down the back of someone's pants protocols doesn't mean that you can too. Everyone knows it's all right to drop something down the back of someone's pants, but you're not supposed to pull the pants away, you're to take advantage of the natural, or unnatural, gap that opens up.
.
Hey I don't make the rules I just live by them . . . when it's convenient.
.
Hey are you tired of not knowing what's going on when your friends, ah hell who am I kidding, your friend and/or the rest of your Guild in WoW, are talking about films? Well fret no longer because here's a great little video with 100 film spoilers in five minutes. You've got five minutes and trust me it's worth watching.
.
And I have to share this in the interest of public safety; the bane of your schoolyard existence is back, and no I don't mean the wedgie, purple nurple or that really mean teacher who was old when she taught your mum. It's cooties and it just so happens that Scientists have proved that girls really do have them. Best stop by your best friend's house on your way to work this morning and get that long over due cootie vaccination before it's too late. Or maybe it already is.
.
I'd also like to ask you all to join me in congratulating the City of Miami for the month of October as it was the first month in 42 years that the city didn't record a single homicide. Way to go! Although this is being congratulated for something that you should be doing anyway, so in a way it's kinda like getting a round of applause for not pissing all over your own shoes.
.
Well not to end on too serious a note, but how about the upcoming non-confidence vote and the NDP/Liberal Coalition forming in the Federal Government? I can't speak for everyone, but does anyone in Parliament really think that another election will turn out differently than the one we voted in October? If anything people will be pissed off at the Coalition for forcing another election so soon and vote for the Conservatives in anger. Or maybe they'll protest vote it again throw some more votes at the Green Party.
.
Although Jack Layton really does have a mustache that you could vote for . . . too bad he's not the MP for my riding.
.
Well that's her for today, and remember only 22 more shoplifting days until giftmas.

Happy Halloween

Boo!
.
Happy Halloween, or as it was once known All Hallows Eve. What once served as a spooky New Years Eve tradition for the ancient Celts (which they called Samhain and no not the band this time but what's Halloween without Danzig eh?) was ultimately appropriated by Pope Gregory IV in 840 AD to serve as the daylong vigil preceding the Feast of All Saints. Even so, the Christians preserved the pagan festival's spooky trappings anyway, like they did so many other times with so many other Pagan festivals . . . I mean it makes sense to me, if people are already partying on one day and you want them to join your cause why change the date? Would only lead to confusion and this way you could have people celebrating your holy days without their even knowing. Now that's good management.
.
But, hey who gives a shit? I mean you still go out get free candy and get to see all sorts of ladies in all sorts of sexy costumes, i.e. the sexy witch, the sexy devil, the sexy pirate, the sexy harem girl, the sexy school girl, the sexy nurse, to quote the King of Siam et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. There's just something about Halloween that's a license for woman to dress all slutty like. It's awesome.
.
But just to help you out the good folks at Cracked have compiled another Halloween costume list, this time it's to let you know the top 20 costumes that will earn you a Halloween beat down.
.
Now that you're officially scared witless let's get on with the show.
.
This is a great Midas TV commercial featuring the Canadian police chase, true hilarity. This Futureshop commercial with the CFL tie in is also a current favourite of mine. I laugh every time I see and they play it a lot during the football games.
.
Now here's a bit of news that's going to blow your mind - Rob Zombie has an animated movie in the works called The Haunted World of El Superbeasto starring a luchador named El Superbeasto. I don't know about you but I can't wait to see this one, I think that
.
Rob Zombie + animation + Lucha Libre = epic win
.
Just go take a look over at the official movie website (unfortunately a lot of it is still in the works) for yourself if you don't believe me. You can check out the IMDB page here if you like.
.
It's not animated, but it's great news for people who travel and don't like dehydration and/or their mouths tasting like a monkey shit in them after 12 hours on an airplane; according to this article the TSA is likely to ease up on carry on restrictions for liquids on airplanes. This will likely ripple throughout the airline industry as it was the American TSA that basically set the standard for limiting liquids on the plane for fear of one of the passengers pulling a MacGyver and mixing up some toothpaste, hair gel and coca cola to make a bomb that'd drop the plane right out of the sky onto an orphanage with an idling bus full of nuns outside of it.
.
They overlooked one thing though - MacGyver is fucked without his Swiss Army Knife and even before the new security measures you couldn't, well weren't supposed to, be bringing knives on the plane. See so everyone was safe . . . that being said I once inadvertently flew through the Winnipeg, Vancouver, Honolulu and Sydney airports with a money clip with a knife blade in it in my pocket. So who knows. I couldn't bring anything as potentially dangerous as my bottle of water on board though. Feel safer?
.
And I think I'll sign off with this nifty little commercial to let us all in how they used to sell airline tickets. I'm thinking the travelling and/or swinging business was the target audience for this one.
.
Have a safe and happy Halloween, and take advantage of it as tonight is the only night where parents actually tell their kids to go out and take candy from strangers.

Back At It

Yep we're back at it again after what a break of three weeks or so?
.
Where have I been you wonder? What have I been doing? Well we're glad you asked, the start to the break in the blogging was because I spent four days in lovely Niagara Falls at the Fallsview Sheraton, for work of all things. So that takes care of part of it . . . but before we go on, I want to know, why is it that the more I pay for a hotel room, the worse I get treated?
.
I mean if I stay at a place for $90 a night I get free internet in my room and breakfast the next day. Spend over $200 a night and internet costs me $15.00 a day and breakfast is a $25? I don't get it, either that or the service industry doesn't. No matter it didn't cost me and I had a sweet view of the falls from the 30th floor of the hotel . . . I almost needed an oxygen mask for the elevator ride to my room.
.
So anyway back to why I wasn't here . . . the day travelling back to town after the Niagara Falls trip was also spent driving, well riding shotgun, to Winnipeg for a couple nights at the Place Louis Riel (I wonder how many other countries have places, hotels or holidays (albeit a provincial one) for a man hanged for high treason? Well I guess the UK does have bonfire night for good old Guy Fawkes and his merry band of Catholic Conspirators (or political fallguys or patsies)) to geek it up flatlander style at the Manitoba Comicon and eat Indian food.
.
The con was great fun, over 16, 000 people went through over the two days and I scored some cool new toys, some new graphic novels, got Lou Ferrigno's autograph (who's still a big man, I could barely get my hand around his to shake it), got to meet a new and great artist Laurie B. (I'm sure once you see her art you'll know why I was so enthralled with her work and couldn't decide what to buy from her, but settled on a sketch book, that way I got it all). Big ups to her for putting up with me coming back to her table several times flipping threw her art . . . but given her line of work and the target audience I'm sure she's used to it. If not she put on a great front and sometimes I can handle being lied to.
.
We also got to chat with a TV Superboy for a bit, watched Helen Slater (the movie Supergirl) from a safe distance, and trust me she's still looking good, saw Erica Durance (who surprisingly has no bum at all, don't get me wrong, she's good looking, but then she turned around and pow, there's back, there's legs, there's no ass . . . I don't know how she poops).
.
We also saw a rather scary looking tranny Supergirl (who was Batgirl or should I say Bat Ladyboy the next day) but that's okay . . . that was more than balanced with all the giggity from the girls, although many of them were jailbait, I'll admit it, prancing about in their comic book costumery. Needless to say it filled my mind with superhero powered sin.
.
If you're into Indian food and in Winnipeg check that place out, I eat there regularly when I'm in the city, and I think it's good . . . and who's a better judge of quality Indian food than a big white guy from a small town that grew up thinking there were only four kinds of cheese in the whole world (cheddar, mozza, cheez whiz and cheese slices) and grew up in a house where black pepper was considered a blazing hot spice? Hey answer me that.
.
And you're in luck, it looks like you can order spices through the restaurant website if you're interested - I can't promise that the same spices will make the food at home just as good, but it's a start eh?
.
We also spent a rather amusing evening at the East Kildonian Legion . . . Legions are Legions it seems but this one had the first $2.50 drinks I've had in a long time, and for that and a few of the regular patrons it will hold a special place in my heart for a while.
.
So that explains away one week and a long weekend, then I was in Kasabonika for work . . .and the weather was miserable, cold wet rainy snow, low ceiling, just miserable . . . but I made it out when I was supposed and no one got hurt.
.
Then there was a couple days in Kingfisher Lake this week, throw in a couple busy weekends and pow she's all gone and here we are. but now let's get down to bidnizz bitches . . .
.
I think I owe you all a little public service announcement here and sorry for the short notice, but if you were ever a fan of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, on Oct 25th you will have the chance to dance the same routine simultaneously with others worldwide. You can read about it here, but it's taking place tomorrow so you'd better read fast and call into work sick so you can spend the day getting your zombie dance choreography down.
.
Why this might even be better than the Thai Prison Thriller Dance . . . but that's going to be hard to top, doncha think?
.
In entertainment news, according to this there's a Muppet movie for adults in the works . . . this leaves me wondering if that means we'll have to see Miss Piggy being DP'd on the big screen? No matter I'm sure I'll go see it either way, after all you cannot go wrong with the Muppets. I just wish that someone was rerunning the Muppet Show . . . but maybe it will come, after all Teletoon Retro is rerunning Fraggle Rock at the moment.
.
If you're ever after a good laugh on the job site, pull the netting/straps out of your hardhat, put it back on your head and proclaim yourself a Doozer. Trust me it's a hoot.
.
Well that's all we have time for today, but I will leave you with this lovely cross over of geekery and giggity, check out this picture from the new Star Trek film and I'm sure you'll be pleased to see the that the Original Series uniforms are back baby yeah. There are some words to go along with the picture here, but you don't care about that do you?
.
Anyway, I'm outtie.

Time Travel = Bullshit

Hey anyone watch the two hour season premiere of Heroes last night on NBC?
.
I know I sure did, and I walked away from it with this one overwhelming feeling - Time Travel is Bullshit. I don't care how you pile it, it's still bullshit. Even when Michael J Fox did it it was bullshit and you know it.
.
You disagree? Well you're wrong. Take last night for example - really it's no big deal that the speedy chick (anyone else think that they should have got Lola from Run Lola Run to play her?) stole Hiro's paper.
.
Why you ask?
.
Because he can go back in time, over and over again to just before or hours or days before to try to stop her or to stop her or to stop himself from doing something so it doesn't happen. Shit he could go back in time years and run her down with a POS Mazda while she's walking on a sidewalk to get to a baseball game to keep her from ever even coming close to getting the chance to snatch his secret formula of eleven secret herbs and spices.
.
Or take Future Peter Petrelli fucking everything up by coming back and messing with the time line. Well no problem, just time travel his ass to the appropriate moment and convince himself not to do it - or at least not to do parts of it. Whatever best suits his needs, desires, agenda. Sure he thinks shooting his brother is good, but getting Claire Sylerized is bad, so play it like that, go back, stop one don't stop the other. Seems so straight forward to me.
.
So simple, I think you'll have to agree that time travel is a shitty plot device because you have to leave so many holes and bits of broken logic into the story line to make it work and quite often I can't suspend that much disbelief. I mean think about - with time travel there's never suspense or fear of failure because if something doesn't work out, just go back and try again. It's like a real life reset button. After all it was the over reliance on time travel, as well as the complete disregard for the established history of that particular universe, that got me to stop watching Star Trek Enterprise.
.
But what do I know about such things. That's enough for now eh? Here's to hoping that I won't walk away from every episode of Heroes this season being pissed off about time travel . . . and hopefully I'll remember what happened this season - I mean I really can't remember much of what happened last season and it was what two months long? Not a good sign. Not a good sign at all.
.
Until next time.

Great News Everyone

According to this none other than Sarah Silverman is once again single; perhaps Jimmy Kimmel's loss could be my gain? I know it's early but Sarah if you're out there and interested in big bald hairy guys drop a line.
.
Since we're talking about Sarah Silverman, seems that she's going to be on the new Match Game that will air on TBS along with Norm MacDonald, Super Dave Osborne and Scott Thompson (no doubt playing Charles Nelson Reilly for a new millennium). I have to wonder if it will be as good as the original, as I can't see the networks letting anyone get away with the on air drinking and smoking that the original (well worth watching on GSN just to see Betty White making dirty jokes) was full of. The show had a good format and the panel of B-List celebs were usually pretty good, Brett Somers bashing on CNR for being gay and getting loopy, CNR smoking his pipe while wearing ascot and Richard Dawson hitting on every female contestant to grace the stage.
.
And you CNR is the shit when he's the subject of a Dead Milkmen song. Makes me want to have my own hilltop Nelson Reilly orgy with fifteen girls. Good times.
.
You can read more about it here if you're interested.
.
That's enough classic game show talk for now, how about something that'll maybe appeal to the freegans (just another breed of dirty hippy) out there, The Best Before Challenge. Check out the article by a Brit who over a two week stretch ate food increasingly past its best before date to prove the fact that we throw out too much good food or maybe it was just to piss off his wife. Nothing bad happened to the writer and the humour in the article is mint. Check out it, and don't just throw out that milk because it's on the sell by date, at least see if it's good first.
.
Since I brought up the soap dodgers again, maybe you'll be interested in this article about a set of Scottish vegan parents who brought their daughter up on a strict vegan diet and who at the age of 12 had to be admitted to hospital bone condition which has left her with the spine of an 80-year-old woman. I know now even as I type this there are people who will bombard me with information that it is possible to raise a healthy kid as vegetarian or vegan and that's probably right . . . I mean there are people all over the world who don't eat meat, although I'm sure for many it's a lifestyle that is forced on them by circumstance and not choice.
.
And being Scottish vegans I wonder if deep fried Mars bars are still okay to eat? I guess it would depend on whether it's friend in vegetable oil or animal oil . . . and whether or not there's really milk in the milk chocolate.
.
Unfortunately the article doesn't mention what happened to the 80 year old lady that they took the spine out of. Ba-dump-bump!
.
Maybe having a Mars bar based diet isn't so bad, check out this article (complete with what is quite possibly the most unappealing photo of a dude eating a chocolate bar (that's right chocolate bar, not candy bar) ever) about a guy who claims to have lived on them for the past 17 years. I wonder if he eats them all raw or has any deep fried?
.
I'm sure you've no doubt noticed I link to Wikipedia a lot here, and why not it's quick and easy and even if it's not the most accurate, it's close enough for rock and roll, or at least this shadowy corner of the interweb. But there are many other 'Pedias out there on the net, and here's Wired's compilation of the 8 best non-Wiki Pedias, like Dickipedia, which states:
.
"Gerald 'Geraldo' Rivera is a TV journalist, noted egotist, former talk-show host, and a dick."
.
And check out their Dr. Phil article . . . now he's truly and honestly a dick. I wonder if I can make a page there for myself?
.
The Uncyclopedia also gets a mention, a hugely amusing website which regular readers may remember from some post on here . . . or if I didn't post it before I meant to. Check out the entries for Toronto and Canadian Inventions.
.
That's it for today - and remember as a wise friend of mine said "Best before doesn't mean bad after."

Hogan Knows Best?

A friend of mine emailed me these rather disturbing photos of the Hulkster himself applying sunscreen (well we assume sunscreen) to his daughter Brooke's backside and awfully close to her nether regions. I don't have kids of any shape or size, but something seems a little wrong about that . . . but maybe I just don't get it.
.
Since we're sorta talking about wrasslin', have you seen the crying wrestling fan yet? Watch that video it's great, I mean who doesn't want to see a grown man break down during a Q&A session with some pro-wrestling celebs? And in case that short video clip wasn't enough, why not check out the article that the crying wrestling fan wrote about the experience/event or his website.
.
And to give credit where credit is due the same guy who sent the Hogan pics also was the first to inform me of the wonders that is the CWF.
.
And finally how about some great medical research news - turns out that masturbation may help prevent prostate cancer. Well according to this article it does anyway. So that's great news not only can you wank for peace (check out their propaganda posters, they're great), but for your health as well. That is of course if doesn't make you go blind, insane or give you hairy palms first.
.
And since I care so much about your prostate health, here's a deposit for your spank bank, you'll probably have the best return on this investment if you're a geek fanboy, a nice slide show collection of the babes of the NYC Comic-Con.
.
All I can say is Giggity.
.
Man I swear some day I am going to go to the San Diego Comic-Con. And it will rule. I'd also like to rock out at the Wacken Open Air Festival . . . now that would be an experience of a lifetime. And honestly Rocklahoma would be a good time too . . . but in a riding a moped kinda way, if you know what I mean.
.
While we're talking rock, it looks like Lars Ulrich and I finally have something in common, apparently we both want Metallica to release their latest record sooner than later. I wonder if we're both hoping that it's a lot better than their last record too?
.
.
PS - it's still real to me, dammit!
