This is probably going to be a short one, but this is something that should be shared. Anyway apparently Toronto schools are all about having their students killed and according to this article from the Globe & Mail in response to a fatal stabbing of a Toronto High School student this past Tuesday Ontario Liberal Premiere Dalton McGuinty wants a nation wide ban on handguns.
Okay you read that right, did I read the article right, someone gets stabbed so you ban pistols? All I can say about that is WTF? Now even if this were in response a shooting of high school student I'd still think that was a knee jerk, grandstanding action from a Provincial member of the Federal Party that brought Canada the smashing failure that is/was gun registry out to grab some headlines and appeal to the anti-gun groups.
I don't get the logic behind it, but maybe I'm too simple too, after all you'd think there'd have to be some reasoning behind the thinking that someone who is going to kill or shoot someone won't do it for fear of breaking a Federal firearms law.
But no matter I won't be voting Liberal in the upcoming October 10 Provincial Election.
But hey that's enough of the serious for now, here's something that has an effect on me, but not so much the same one as Mr. McGuinty's stance of firearms. Turns out that according to this article I can no longer perform weddings in the state of Pennsylvania. Seems that some (probably religious) group of State law makers feels that churches that ordain over the Internet (like my church the Universal Life Church) make a mockery of the institution of marriage. Little do they understand that I got ordained to make a mockery of organised religion as a whole.
I'll take this opportunity to make you aware of an aspiring local rapper Nicky 9 Lines, you can check out his videos on YouTube here or his MySpace here. Rap isn't my thing, so maybe I'm a harsher critic of this than need, but maybe you'll like it.
And finally I will leave you with this YouTube video of Alex Trebek (hey I didn't know he was Ukrainian) losing his patience during an actual episode of Celebrity Jeopardy. Which leaves us asking, does stupid mean anything to you?

Today is a day that will live infamy
Well we all know that today is September 11 aka 9/11 the anniversary of the coordinated airplane hijacking and subsequent crashing of commercial air liners into the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. The after effects of this are still being felt today every time you go into an airport and have to suffer through long lines at security with out enough gates or minimum wage safety screeners and how much safer do you feel on a plane now that you know that the guy across the aisle from you can only bring a dab of hand lotion on board and has to leave his water at the security check point?
But enough of the serious stuff, how about this; check out this link to see an amazing photo and bit of video of a plane being stuck by lightning while leaving Osaka airport . . . and I have to agree with the guy who posted the pic and video originally; how can a plane stay in the air after something like that but for fear for everyone on board's life you can't use your cell phone (but you can use the phone built into the seat?)?
In case airplanes aren't your bag, baby yeah, how about the ten weirdest things for sale on Amazon.com? I don't know about you but I think I need one of these and one of these . . . . but what I really need is one these, I mean shit who doesn't need a TARDIS USB hub?
And to appeal to the kid in all of us, how about Wizard's list of the Top 100 Toys of the past Decade? And I know you'll all be happy to know that I have #2 in my living as we speak . . . or as I type and you read.
To shift gears from toys to movies, how about some new pics from the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight? I've got high hopes for this one, Batman Begins was a great film and I think that everything I've seen or read to date about this one looks bad ass.
If Batman isn't your speed, how about Harold & Kumar's new flick, Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam? You can check out the trailer here if you're so inclined. All I can say is I'm glad that NPH is back in this one, he was one of the high points of the original.
And finally I'll sign off with the pictures that George A. Romero released from his newest zombie movie, "Diary of the Dead", check 'em out here.

And we're back!
Finally back to posting something after over month's absence. Makes you wonder what I've been doing, eh?
Well it's been nothing to exciting but I have been riding the local crime wave, although things are quiet again but man was the beginning of August a busy time, here's some info in case you aren't sure of what happened:
From the CKDR website:
Sioux Lookout Man Charged With Attempted Murder
Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Tuesday, August 7th, 2007 am 9:49:52 AM
An unidentified man is in Thunder Bay Hospital in stable condition after an incident at a Sioux Lookout residence last Thursday night.OPP were called to a Front Street home around 10:30 to investigate the circumstances surrounding an injured male.
Police have charged 23-year-old Nathaniel Kamenawatamin of Sioux Lookout with attempted murder. He remains in custody.
That one took place right around the corner from my house, but at least this one happened on the other end of town:
Sioux Lookout Man Faces 2 Charges
Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 am 8:47:20 AM
A Sioux Lookout man is in custody after OPP located a woman in the bush Sunday morning.
The 21-year-old victim was spotted at the west end of Queen Street in Sioux Lookout.
As a result of an investigation and assistance from the community, police have arrested 23-year-old Charles Raymond Hattie.
Hattie faces counts of attempted murder and aggravated sexual assault.
The woman was transported to hospital for treatment.
That information was again lifted from the CKDR website.
But enough of that, how about something with a little more geek appeal, like a picture of Iron Man from the upcoming movie, and in case you're wondering just how it stacks up to the comic book Iron Man, have no fear because there's a comic book comparison shot there as well and as far as I can tell it's pretty much bang on.
And to keep your Iron Man excitement levels up here's the Iron Man movie footage they showed at the San Diego Comic Con. How awesome does that look? I know I'm eagerly awaiting the May 2008 release of the film.
Since we're on the topic of upcoming films, how about Alien vs Predator: Requiem? Here's the red band (that's cool in the know people talk for R-Rated) trailer for the film and just based on this it looks a whole lot better than the first big bunch of wank that was AVP, which was sadly lacking on the Aliens battling Predators bits that the title of the film might lead one to believe it contains. The movie is coming out on Christmas Day this year, because nothing says Christmas like Aliens fucking up Predators fucking people fucking up Predators fucking up Aliens, right?
Hey at least it makes more sense than a Labour Day release of Rob Zombie's Halloween - which if you're a Halloween or Rob Zombie movie fan you should see. Just looking at the two imdb pages for these films the recreation of this promo shot from the John Carpenter original into this one for the Zombie remake really appeals to me for some reason.
Enough geekery for now, time to movie onto bigger and better things . . . well okay maybe not bigger . . . but it's definitely amusing; even though this isn't late breaking news any more did you know that the Dad from TLC's Little People, Big World, Matt Roloff, was charged with DUI at the end of July?
No?
Well you can read about it here if you really want. Me I'm curious how/if they'll show this in the upcoming season(s) of the show? Will it be addressed or will they simply pretend like it never happened and just never have Matt driving anywhere. Only time will tell.
Time for something a little more current event like, like this:
Greece Fire! Looks like this has gone well past the point of dumping some baking soda on it or putting the lid back on the pot . . . but enough of the humour in bad taste, here's an article that talks about the wildfires raging all over Greece. But the the real reason why I'm sharing that link is they've got a satellite photo showing the huge plumes of smoke rising from various spots in the country and some pretty amazing photos of the fire and its aftermath.
Well that's enough for now, but I will leave with this link to pics of Hayden Panettierre, the cheerleader Claire from NBC's hit series Heroes (mark your calenders season 2 premieres Spetember 24), dressed up like a little German girl for the fan boys out there, and because I was stopped a while ago and told that I wasn't posting enough porn in here. Well it ain't porn but it's a start.
Enjoy

Good news, everyone:
According to this article there's a new Futurama movie being released on November 27. The show will return on November 27th as a full-length high-def film sold on DVD. It will be followed by three additional films, and each film will be divided into four episodes each to be aired on Comedy Central. So, that's 4 DVD movies or 16 new episodes depending on how you look at it.
Apparently no other big revelations came out of the SDCC panel, but they did say that the first DVD - Bender's Big Score - centers around some nudist aliens and the secret to time travel which is somehow attached to Fry's buttock.
Since we're rocking the entertainment world, how about this article where Ed Norton says he rewrote the "Incredible Hulk" script to better link to other Marvel Comics franchises; apparently Norton was a "Marvel kid", his words not mine. I still haven't seen the last Incredible Hulk movie directed by Ang Lee, but I haven't heard anything good about it so I don't think I'm missing out on anything . . . and from what I've read/heard the studios are going to pretend that movie never happened when making this one.
Damn there's all kinds of great news that comes out of the San Diego Comic-Con . . . like yesterday someone had YouTubed a screening of footage from/the trailer for the upcoming Iron Man movie, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Ironman, from the SDCC and I watched it last night, but when I went to check to see if the link was still good this morning, it wasn't. You can check it yourself here if you like.
But don't fret the official Dark Knight teaser trailer is still up and running on YouTube so go give it a butcher's, it's a real tease but you know you wanna.
Well I should get going, but I'd like to leave you with a little history reminder it was on this day in 1938 that in his Dearborn, Michigan office Henry Ford proudly accepts a Nazi medal on his 75th birthday. The Grand Cross of the Order of the German Eagle is the highest award the Reich can bestow on foreigners. The medal arrives with a note of personal greetings from Adolf Hitler. A rabid anti-semite, Ford paid for copies of the racist hoax Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion to be deposited in major U.S. libraries. Think about that next time you're proud of your Ford tough F-150's history.
Until next blog.

Peace, Love & Rock 'n' Roll
It was today in 1999 that the Woodstock '99 festival ended in looting and rioting that left 12 trailers burned, towers toppled, and several women raped during the course of the show. About 500 state troopers were needed to quell the mass uprising of peace and love, apparently triggered by overpriced vendors and commercialization.
After I saw the concert footage, news coverage and read articles about what a disaster the show turned into I was glad that I didn't go to the show, and a friend of mine and I were planning to go, the thing that kept us from actually going was not being able to find a good price for plane tickets.
Enough history; time for some almost current events. Anyone familiar with Winnipeg knows that its residents love to steal stuff, especially cars, but this one takes the case. According to this article from the CBC the Winnipeg Police are investigating a "stolen" house. Turns out that a Winnipeg man has been charged with theft after a home in the city's West End area disappeared into a pile of rubble. Seems he was going to buy the building but he had it knocked down prior to actually doing so and since the actual owner didn't live in the city it went off without a hitch.
Talk about brass balls eh?
In other recent events a Nova Scotia man has been charged for pissing out his apartment window onto the people below who were watching the town of Pictou's annual Lobster Carnival parade. Speaking from experience when situated in such a position it is awfully hard and sometimes impossible to resist raining down on the people on the street with various whatevers . . . although I can swear that I never peed out an apartment window onto anyone.
And just for some general trivia how's about checking out this list of the 50 most populous countries in the world. Good to see that Canada is on the list at number 36 with 33,390,141 people. According to this list China is the world's most populated country with close to 40 times Canada's population. The United States comes in third in population, behind still way behind India, with just over nine times Canada's population. Don't you just love numbers?
And since we're talking trivia how about this list of 20 things you didn't know about Galileo from Discover Magazine and how about the debunking the pirate myth/legend of 'Arrrrrr'. Personally I'm a bigger fan of "Yaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" But that's me.
Who knows the information you just picked up might become handy in your next game of Trivial Pursuit or the next episode of Jeopardy you watch.
Anyway I think it's time to go, later days.

Drew Carey, come on down . . .
. . . you're the next host on The Price is Right! Or at least that's what this news release from CBS says. Drew Carey could be a good host of the show but Bob Barker has been on there for so long it will get really hard to get used to . . . not that I'm a TPIR watcher, especially since I have a day job. But the biggest question is will Carey continue the tradition and use Bob Barker's signature skinny stick mic?
Since we're talking TV changes here's one for the Corrie fans, Liz Dawn, who plays Vera Duckworth in Britain's longest-running soap opera "Coronation Street," is to leave the show due to ill health according to this article. I haven't been a life long Corrie watcher, but I have been watching for a few years now and have been noticing that the newer actors on the show are getting a whole lot better looking than the older ones.
All I know is I want to move there, there's so much going on and it's all on one short little street. Don't you think I'd make for another good illegitimate son for Fred Elliott?
That's enough TV for now, last Friday I saw the Deftones rock the shit out of the Burton Cummings Theatre, formerly know as the Walker Theatre. Another great Deftones show for sure, the opener, Die Mannequin Toronto based sleaze rockers, were pretty good as well, but the second act, From Beginning to End or Start to Finish or Sucky McSuckerson and the Sucktones, sucked all the ass. Good show overall and it was hot hot hot - the Walker smelled like an arm pit at the end of the night. Before the show we went to La Fiesta Cafecito for some central American style eats and man was it good. Everything I had (combo plate #3) was awesome, when you do make sure you try out their pupusas and the chicken chipotle soup is deadly.
Anyway I gotta get going, gotta catch a plane, so until next time and remember help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.

Barbarella Come & Save Me From My Misery
Well according to this article now Halle Berry is going to play Barbarella in the to be made someday remake of the 1968 cult classic starring Jane Fonda in the title role. Personally I was more excited about this when Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale were rumoured to be playing the lead in this remake, but no matter I'll go see it anyway . . . if and when it gets released and or appears at my local theatre.
And since we're talking new movies apparently there's another sequel to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (remember their Bogus Journey?) in the works, but according to this article from Contact News it will happen without Keanu Reeves or Alex Winter (who apparently has done something besides the Bill & Ted movies and The Lost Boys), Reeves because his agent thinks it would be bad for his career. Personally I can see not calling on these two to reprise the roles, but what I do I know for making movies.
And one last bit of movie news, Kevin Smith has announced a new movie Zack & Miri Make a Porno. You can read about it here if you like; me I'm just hoping it's good. So far the only Kevin Smith movies that I've enjoyed (at least if i knew the movies with Smith films) have been the New Jersey Chronicles - although I have to admit that when I saw Chasing Amy I only liked the first half of it.
In case you're a big a fan of Smiths' New jersey movies here's a website that gives you the addresses of many of the real locations that he used in these movies. Stalk away you crazy fan boys.
Well that's enough movies talk for now, let's move onto TV game shows. Unfortunately this link is about a month and a half old, but someone auctioned off the set from Family Feud on eBay. I gotta wonder what are you going to do with this guy who bought it? I guess you could redecorate your living room with it like Kosmo Kramer did on the one episode of Seinfeld . . . or make game night down at the local boozer a lot more big budget.
And here the good folks at Retro Crush have compiled their list of the Top 30 Game Show Hosts and really it's hard to argue with their choices, even their choice for the number one slot. Rayburn and Match Game was so many kinds of awesome, but I don't think the either would have been as good without the other. The show really needed it's on air drinking, chain smoking, B-List Celebrity panel, Mr. Rayburn, cheeky flirting and that great 70's attitude (and penchant for brown plaid suits) to really make it classic and worthwhile. But that's just my opinion.
You can catch re-runs of Match Game on the Game Show Network if you're so inclined.
And today I will leave you with this link to purchase your very own replica Airwolf Helmet, although unfortunately they won't be making any more of them until late this year. Book mark the site because I can think of a few people who would defo love to have one of these on their shelf . . . or head. I remember thinking that the show Airwolf was just bad ass when it was on the air . . . I wonder if it's still watchable? and I wonder what Jan-Michael Vincent is up to these days?
Anyway that's her for now, I am outta here!

All American Superstar
Today is the 13th anniversary of the suicide of Miss Shannon Michelle Wilsey aka porn starlet Savannah. After a night of partying Savannah put her 'Vette into a fence (or pole depending on what you read) and after that she went home and shot herself in her garage with a pistol, but not before calling her manager to come over and help her. Sounds like a really stable bird eh?
From porn to Aussie beer, it looks like the Foster's brewing company is lowering the alcohol content of their Victoria Bitter (loving known as VB down undah) by 0.1% in order to save a metric assload of money in taxes. You can read all about it here if you like. I can honestly recommend VB but only if it's out of the tap or a can; i tried a couple bottles when I was on holiday in Oz and boy did they taste like ass . . . but maybe they were sitting around for a long time, I was given the impression that not too many people were VB drinkers in some of the areas I was in.
Unfortunately the LCBO or Brewer's Retail in Ontario don't seem to carry VB, but here's the official Brewer's Retail aka 'The Beer Store' info page for my local Beer Store and check out all the different product they carry.
For the comic book geeks according to this article the San Diego Comic Con (which looks completely bad ass, I'd love to check it out some day - I might just have to settle for the Manitoba Comicon which seems to be on the weekend I'm flying to Malaysia - damn, might not be able to do it) to preview a new movie based on the Superman/Doomsday story, which includes Doomsday killing Superman and some replacement Supermen popping up in his absence. Now that is a Superman movie that I could really be excited to see . . . I'll be cheering for Doomsday and will likely proclaim when it's over "You know what would have made that movie better? If Batman were in it."
Here's the official movie site just in case you're interested in checking it out, because I know I'm not the only growed up here who still likes to watch superhero cartoons.
Here's an interesting article for the alco-snobs out there; after doing a (probably not very scientific) test vodka drinkers could not necessarily tell their preferred brand of premium from others and without labels to influence them sometimes picked other or even cheaper brands. I don't like vodka myself but I have heard that if run cheaper vodka through a Brita filter a few times it really helps to mellow and smooth it out. But I'm not going to go out and buy a Brita and a jug of Vodka to test that out.
And today I'll sign off with a reality check of sorts; the baby who appeared on Nirvana's Nevermind album cover is now 17 years old (for some reason it never occurred to me that the baby was out the somewhere aging, people are funny aminals, eh?), check it out yo!
And get off my lawn.

May the Force be with you
Admittedly I am a big geek, but I don't think that I come close to the levels required to be labelled a Star Wars geek, I've liked watching some of the movies and have some of the toys, but I don't live and die by the 'saga' by any means, in fact I don't think very highly of George Lucas' film making in general, but then again according to this article all about why Star Wars fans hate Star Wars that fact alone is one of the symptoms of being a Star Wars fan.
This write up fits in nicely with the previous article, I mean after all who but a die hard Star Wars fan would take the time to let the world know all about the implausibility of the Death Star's trash compactor? I gotta say if that is the one that won't let you suspend your disbelief while watching that movie you got some problems man. In fact you might be surprised how many hits you get if you Google Death Star trash compactor.
In case you are a Star Wars fan with an extra $20k kicking around maybe you'd be interested in purchasing a life sized C3PO and life sized R2-D2 statue? And after you're done racking up your MasterCharge with those maybe you'd like to take this quiz and see if you can correctly identify whether something is a Star Wars Name, Baseball Player or Thai food dish.
And one last bit of Star Wars news, according to this article Chewie is being charged with sexually assaulting Marilyn Monroe in front of the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood for taking her hand and putting it on his wookie junk. I guess Chewbacca doesn't mind the BO and IBS, eh? This is something that I should have linked to yesterday with the link to the breaking news article about Marilyn, but here are some exclusive (their term not mine) photos of her from the good people over at Pravda. They might not exactly be exclusive, but they aren't the ones that you always see, so enjoy. And I don't think I have to say it but since the pics are of Marilyn they may contain boobies.
If you're ever wondering who you should believe when it comes to movie reviews you should one always take my opinion very seriously and two go to this website to find out which of the major movie critics most closely matching your taste in film. My movie critic compatability stacks up like this:
- Rotten Tomatoes : 85%
- James Berardinelli : 82%
- Peter Travers : 81%
- Roger Ebert : 75%
Finally in some un-Star Wars related news how about this concert? I know I sent the link to some via email already, but I had to make sure it got out to everyone . . . I know I for one would love to be at Rocklahoma . . . do you think a week is enough time to grow in a sweet mullet?
Since we're talking aging rockers, after seeing these pictures here I have to wonder, is Ozzy getting a lot more attractive or is Demi Moore getting a lot less attractive? I mean when you look at those two pictures they could almost be twins separated at birth.
From aging rockers to washed up Pop Princesses, apparently the Spice Girls have decided to reunite, or at least they have for this picture. I'll let you make your own comments about it, all I can say my how've they all changed . . . Ginger Spice aka Geri Halliwell was always my favourite and not just because she did some nudie modelling prior to being a Spice Girl, but I'm sure that helped some.
And I'll sign off today with the last item; ever wonder how much your corpse would be worth? Well wonder no longer, head on over to the Cadaver Calculator and have at 'er. Apparently my dead body is worth $3665.
Gooooooooooooooooooooooo me! How much is your corpse worth?

Oh Canada we something something for thee . . .
I was a little surprised to learn from reading this article that half of Canadians don't know enough about their own country to pass the test for citizenship that immigrants have to write. This concerned me and I had to know how I would fare on such a test so after a quick trip to Google I turned up this test here.
I did the 120 question test option and got 11 wrong, 3 of those were about current BC government specifically so that's got to be good enough to live here, right? How did you fair on the test?
Would you like to take all the sexy out of Marilyn Monroe? If so read this article here that talks about how she was a slob, wasn't into bathing and suffered from irritable bowel syndrome . . . apparently that's why Clark Gable never actually had the affair with her that he was rumoured to have had on the set of The Misfits. Admit it, you'd still tap the ass of an unwashed, flatulent Marilyn.
Big ups for bleaching her pubic hair and never wearing underpants though.
Recently the anniversary of Jim Morrison's death passed, see recent blog entry, and well here's an article that adds a new twist to the tale. In the article former friend and club owner claims that Morrison OD'd in the bathroom at his club and the guys who he bought the heroin from carried him back to his apartment and put him in the bath and how anyone who was involved or knew anything was sworn to secrecy.
I'll sign off for today with this last link, now this is a proper obituary. I'd love to have one written about me like this one, well without the homosexuality and heroin addiction that is.
And with that I'm off to Kas.

This is the end . . .
Not of this blog, although posts have been hit and miss lately, but today is the 36th anniversary of Jim Morrison's, of The Doors, apparent death by heart attack in his Paris apartment. I say apparent because of the controversy/myth around his death and Morrison's claims prior to his dying of going and hiding out somewhere and sending letters to friends to let him know he was okay; well I don't know about you but I haven't received any letters from Mr. Mojo Rising.
All sorts of fans & pilgrims make the trek to Jim Morrison's grave in Paris' Pere Lachaise Cemetery, although apparently the cemetery is full of misdirecting graffiti leading other would be visitors astray.
Enough history for today, how's about a current event? If you're the kind of person who enjoys a nice wank after eating a pizza and you live in Winnipeg you're in luck; there's a new River City business called Porno Pizza that will deliver pizza to your door with pages of porn under the pizza where the cardboard normally would be. You can read about it here if you're so inclined. Also big ups tot he owner Corey Wildeman for using a Simpsons quote in his interview with the Winnipeg Sun. Man what can't you get in Osborne Village?
The Chris Benoit saga is ongoing and now the Sun is reporting that authorities now believe that he killed his son with one of his finishers, The Crippler Crossface. You can read about it here if you like, but I don't think this one is going to die down anytime soon. There will be all kinds of media attention on the deaths and of course steroid and other drug use by pro wrestlers. It's nothing new and I think everyone is well aware of the side effects of the job/lifestyle . . . just ask Curt Hennig, Road Warrior Hawk, Rick Rude, Davey Boy Smith, Brian Pillman, the Von Erich Family . . . hell the list could go on and on.
And from the realms of science read here about how babies are natural born liars. Interesting article but I guess it's something we all knew already, eh? I mean everyone has heard a baby cry just for attention and I guess we weren't cynical enough to call it lying . . . maybe that's why I'm uncomfortable around the wee ones?
And I will end with a direct cut and paste from the meanest bit of spam email I've received in recent memory, "Your penis is too small even for a Barbie doll. With Penis Enlarge Patch it will be big enough fo" Ouch eh? And yes it was cut off like that in the email.
Until next time.

Shot Heard Around the World
Today is the 93rd anniversary of the infamous Shot Heard Around the World that started the first World War. The shot in question was the fatal shooting of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia, pregnant at the time, in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip (an ethnic Serb, but later proclaimed to be a Yoguslav Nationalist). The sad twist of irony to this is that before the shooting Nedjelko Cabrinovic tried to throw a grenade into the Duke's (not John Wayne, Franz Ferdinand again) car but he was able to knock it aside with his arm, and his driver sped off from the scene. It was during the return drive that Princip was able to shoot the Duke & Duchess. Five weeks after these assassinations World War I broke out in Europe.
Enough with the history; how about some current events coverage? The Chris Benoit family murder suicide has been getting loads of main stream media attention so I won't put too much into it at the moment, but from what I've read/heard he strangled his wife, smothered his son (who was suffering from something called Fragile X Syndrome and who may or may not have been getting HGH injections) before hanging himself from a pulley on one of his weight machines. You can read articles on this topic just about everywhere, but here are a few links in case you don't want to Google it, here, here and here. Here's an article with comments from the Excellence of Execution himself Brett Hart.
For some local news the town of Ignace had a terrible storm on Tuesday, complete with tornado touch down, causing a whole lot of havoc and damage in the town. Luckily injuries were at a minimum although property damages were pretty extensive. You can an article about it here or here if you're interested . . . the first link has a couple pictures in it.
This one isn't exactly current or local, but I had to share it; this article contains the new definition for balls. Seems that an Indiana lawyer has himself a few drinks, crashes car into truck, kills a person then says "I hope the guy has insurance to fix my car.” I can almost hear them clanking together from here.
And finally for all the people who think *I* have too much time on hands, here's proof I don't or if not proof of that some evidence that other people have even more time on their hands.
Well I'm going back up to Wunnumin Lake this morning, but no Governor General this time, or at least not that I know of. Who knows, though I am a pretty worldly cosmopolitan dude. Wish me luck.
Until next blog.

Do do doo do do dooo
Here's something that will no doubt be exciting for many; the first picture of Harrison Ford on set in Indy gear filming the fourth Indiana Jones movie. Me I'm not excited for this movie at all, I didn't see the other three Indy films until they came out on DVD a few years ago and I didn't think they were that great. In fact I thought that the first one was a bad star wars rip off and Spielberg didn't even have the common courtesy to change the actor or some of the shots and music. It's true watch it again. You'll see what I mean.
And since we're talking Indy, here's an article from the Catholic World News that states an Italian archaeologist believes that the Holy Grail (whatever it might be, cup, blood line, chalice, Monty Python movie) is hidden in the catacombs under the 6th-century Roman basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls.
Now I know that a while ago I posted a link to an article that stated that migraine sufferers experience less decrease in mental capacity with age compared to non-sufferers; well don't start that party or go out and join the pro memory card game tour just yet . . . yet another article and yet another study has stated that migraines are linked to brain damage and increased risk of stroke. You can read the article here for yourself if you like. Although I'm not pleased to hear that it does make a lot of sense. After all something that painful and debilitating has to be doing something bad up there.
Or maybe it is just tiny gnomes mining inside my brain for precious metals and stones? Seems logical, don't it?
Finally on a sadder note - I know I'm not the only wrestling fan out there but anyone watching RAW last night (in fact the whole thing was a three hour tribute to Benoit) knows that Chris Benoit and his wife & son were found dead yesterday afternoon in their Atlanta home. I had to see if there was any more news on the situation and according to this article authorities believe that it was a double murder/suicide with Benoit killing his wife & kid and then himself.
I guess my Phil Hartman crack last night wasn't too far off the mark, eh?
And that's it for today

Death to False Metal
As you can see from the side bar I've been reading Lords of Chaos about the rise of the underground Satanic music scene. It's been a good read so far and as you can imagine, especially if you've seen Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (if you like metal in any form you have to watch this movie if you haven't already), a large chunk of it (so far anyway) is dealing with the Black Metal scene in Norway and there's a lot of coverage on Varg Vikernes (aka Count Grishnackh) of the band Burzum, Norwegian Metal's most infamous star in prison for murdering fellow Black Metal scenester (actually one of the founders of the scene/genre) and former friend Euronymous (real name Øystein Aarseth) and burning churches, and not just any churches but the beautiful old Fantoft stave church . . . in fact the remains were used on the cover of the Aske (Norwegian for Ashes) album by his band Burzum.
Varg is still in prison and has gone from espousing Satanism to Heathenism/a return to the old pre-Christian Nordic religion and a form of National Socialism. You can read more about Varg's political/ religious views on the Burzum website or the Varg Wiki page, both linked above. In fact last year in Niagara Falls I met some Norwegian people and one said that she'd spoken to Varg on the phone from prison, came to be because a friend was in the same lock up and the friend put Varg on the phone. I don't know how many people are in Norway (and no I'm not going to Google it) but talk about small world eh?
The book is really good and I'm not a black metal fan (in fact I walked out of Dimmu Borgir's (one of black metal's most commercially successful/mainstream acts) show at the Walker a while back, but I do like the Children of Bodom (Finnish Black Metal) and listen to a little Cradle of Filth (English Gothic Black Metal)). Well worth the read, but you might not want to read too much at a time or get indoctrinated yourself.
Well that's enough discussion of evil for the time being; so let's lighten things up with Rodney Carrington singing Show Them to Me, and of course you know the audience obliges. Who knew that whipping out your breasts was such a patriotic thing to do? This song reminds me of the Sons of Butcher song Whip 'Em Out. If you're not familiar with the awesomeness that is the SOB here's a link to their videos up on YouTube, I couldn't find Whip 'Em Out on YouTube but it is on their 2nd record Meatlantis, a record about the undersea city of the same name.
Well that's about all for today, until next blog.

Monday monday
Bah-dah dah dah dah
This is going to be a short one, but I felt that there's some important Batman: the Dark Knight info to share. First being a look at Batman's new suit for the movie scanned from the pages of Entertainment Weekly. I'm sure it will be less noticeable or play better on the screen but I think the suit is looking a little too 'tech' if you know what I mean. That is always the downfall of so many Batman action figures, can never just leave him as the Batman, always have to make him Super Knife Fight Night Flight Batman with firing water canon or some other bullshit like that.
And now here's a look at the Joker's car for the new film. I think that it's awesome I can really picture the joker behind the wheel of it, and helps to capture the 40's feel that seem to keep running through the Batman stories, be it books or cartoons or films or whatever. That and I think that the car alone is pretty cool, very rat rod. Shit I'd drive it that's for sure.
Now it's no secret I still like to buy toys so here are some Biblical Action figures that I'm not sure I'd buy, but you never know. If they added Buddy Christ to the line up I'd surely pick at least that one up.
Now It's also well know that I'm not much for giftmas or its trappings, but looks like the people over at McFarlane Toys are punching out some giftmas figures that even appeal to the likes of me . . . might have to pick some of these up, or maybe just Mrs. Claus.
Well that's her for now, until next blog.

From the whodda thunk it files . . .
Today in 1920 the United States Postal Services ruled that children can not be sent via Parcel Post. To me this says that at the time there were enough people mailing their kids places that someone had to make an official ruling saying that you couldn't do it. I guess it's reassuring to know that people have always been lacking in common sense and that it's not just a something that's happened in the past couple decades.
Here's a good one from the UK the home of the increased airport security measures; I think that we all who travel have pretty much accepted that you cannot bring a drink through security anymore and most of us have understood for a long time that can't take a knife on board either (unless of course you're flying out of my local airport) but here's an article about a guy who's daughter had her pop taken away at an airport security check point, but he was allowed to bring a knife onto the plane that he put in the bin that went through the x-ray machine.
Don't you feel safer now? No need to worry about burping kids guzzling fizzy drinks on your next flight, but the knife wielding lunatic is a whole other matter. Here's to you airport security people, I tip my hat to you and your brethren. Honestly I took a knife through several airport security points, in several different airports, in a few different countries as well, but it was a tiny blade in money clip . . . but maybe I got away with it because it had the Masonic Logo on it?
Speaking of belching away on fizzy drinks, here's a clip from YouTube (where else) of the lovely (??) Cameron Diaz showing Jay Leno her mad burping skills on an episode of The Tonight Show. I don't know about you but I'm impressed, she's one classy broad . . . and no matter what you think of the belch you have to admit the woman has a great smile.
Oh and one for the BBC/Sci-Fi geeks; the new season of Dr. Who starts up Monday June 18 on the CBC, you know I'll be watching. And this season the Doctor gets a new travelling companion in Freema Agyeman. I'd say that she's got mighty big shoes to fill taking Billie Piper's spot on the series, but I said that about David Tennant taking over for Chris Eccleston and I think Tennant is doing a bang up job, so I guess that sci-fi geeks have to be a little open to change, especially in aseries about a time and space travelling being who regenerates in different forms, eh?
And a little bad news for the sci-fi geeks out there according to this article here the upcoming fourth season of Battlestar Galactica will be the last, don't weep fellow geeks, the American Sci-Fi Network is planning a two hour episode called 'Razor' to introduce the fourth season . . . and quite honestly this was a series with a definite goal or end to it, it only makes sense that it can't last forever and I'd rather have it end when it's still good rather than lying dying bloating in the sun like other series occasionally do.
And one last bit; as I mentioned yesterday I was going up to Wunnumin Lake for work and to kick it with Governor General of Canada. We might not have kicked it, but I did speak with her briefly. Here's the story from the Chronicle Journal about her trip to Wunnumin Lake. They had a a bit of ceremony and speeches as part of the presentation along with a few kids acting out the Legend of Wunnumin, or at least part of it. In addition to the CJ coverage there was also a Thunder Bay Television videographer there, and there's a brief video at their website but the only one found was just of the news reader reading some news no footage from the Community. I'll post the link later.
Until we blog again.

Leaving on a prop plane
Got a pretty good idea of when I'll be back again . . . should be around 6 this evening actually. I'm on my way up to Wunnumin Lake for the day to look at some proposed building sites and to kick it with Canada's Governor General, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean. But at least now I have a good idea of who it is.
Okay we probably won't be kicking it per say, but we'll both be there today. Yeah I'm a high roller fo' sho'.
Since I'm being worldly and helping the GG solve some problems today (like getting the excavator so we can dig some test holes) here's a link with some international flavour and import; a photo essay from Time entitled "What the World Eats" showing different families from around the world with a weeks worth of food in front of them and the cost of it. Pretty interesting I think.
And here's another article of international importance about how Chernobyl (site of the nuclear power plant disaster in 1986) has become a refuge for all sorts of wild life. The radiation levels are still way high bu the animals are flocking to the place; I guess it's because there are so few people and the animals don't mind an extra head or two or glowing the dark.
And since I have to take off to catch a flight and have put up a couple serious links this morning, here's one that's pure fun - Jimmy Kimmel playing "Guess What's in My Pants". Gee I should have tried this one Saturday night.
Well I'm off. Later.

What to blog, what to blog . . .
Well to start today is a good day for celebrity history; firstly today in 1936 Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan the Barbarian (I used to love reading the Conan magazines, especially the Savage Sword of Conan, I wonder if they still print them? Haven't read any of the novels though), commits suicide with a gunshot to the head, in 1962 Frank Morris and brothers John & Clarence Anglin escape from Alcatraz Prison (if you haven't seen it he the Clint Eastwood movie Escape from Alcatraz about this break-out is well worth watching), in 1979 the one the only John Wayne (the archetype for nearly every movie hard ass ever since, and honestly who isn't a a fan of the Duke? I still like watching John Wayne movies, even if TBS doesn't re-run the shit out of them anymore) died of lung cancer and in 1999 DeForest Kelly ("Bones" on Star Trek the Original Series or OST as it's known) died of a "lingering illness".
In other sad news, Edwin Traisman, the food scientist responsible for such great break throughs as the ubiquitous McDonald's french fry and Kraft's Cheez Whiz (here's Kraft's own Cheez Whiz site) died of a heart attack (what else? after all the man did create Cheez Whiz & Mickey D's fries . . . hmmmm now I'm thinking about putting melted Cheez Whiz on McDonalds' fries....mmmmm heart-attack-a-licsious) last week at the age of 91. You can read more about it in this article here if you like.
And finally I will leave you with the Weird Convertor, which is just as it sounds; it converts from one unusual or different unit to another, both lengths and weights, so if you were ever wondering how many pounds the average bowel movement is (0.4409 pounds) or how many Jennifer Annistons you'd need to make up one Right Whale testicle (10.02101181818 Jen Annistons BTW) this is the website for you. Which leaves me with the question, why were you wondering this stuff in the first place.
Man you people are weird.
Until next time.

SWEET!
Okay the short film entitled Sweet starring the two guys from the great BBC3 comedy series The Mighty Boosh (although I have to admit, I liked season 1 more than season two, but season 2 was still funny), Noel Fielding (Vince Noir, the King of the Mods, on the Boosh and Pete Sweet in Sweet) and Julian Barratt (Howard Moon on the Boosh and Stitch in Sweet) is definitely a must watch, it's on The Mighty Boosh season 2 DVD, which we watched last night, and man it was hilarious. You can check it out on YouTube here or at the BBC site linked earlier on.
Who knew that dating an imaginary bird would be so much trouble, and so funny?
So as I'm sure you're aware if you're a driver the price of gasoline is a hotly debated topic lately, well it has been for a while, but at least now with this website you can compare your local gasoline price to a snapshot of gas prices around the world here. If you're looking for more up to date localised gas prices check out the Ontario Gas Prices website, or whichever province/area you're in. I'll let you figure that one out on your own. Sioux Lookout still has the highest listed gasoline price in the Province. Go Us!
Road trip to Venezuela anyone? I wonder how large a tank you'd to pull to fill with $0.12 per gallon (roughly $0.03 per litre) gasoline to make the trip pay? That is of course if you don't mind Hugo Chávez and his politics.
I've got no good segue to go from gasoline prices to this one, but I'm sure there's some reference I can make to pumping or taking it up the chute, but no matter, here it is, Star Wars: The Boogie Nights edition. I thought it was amusing, and was amazed how well the dialog selected from the Boogie Nights (a fine film in its own rights, although I don't believe the writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson as I think the movie is at least loosely based on the life of John C. Holmes) trailer (at least I'm pretty sure it's the trailer) fit the video selected from the Star Wars films.
If you're interested in more on John Holmes check out the movie Wonderland (focusing more on Holmes' role in the infamous Wonderland Murders) or the documentary on his life Wadd: The Life & Times of John C. Holmes.
And in some great news on the geek front, according to this article Neil Gaiman is working on getting Death: The High Cost of Living up on the big screen. I tried checking IMDB for some information on the movie, but this screen came up telling me that I could only get at the information on that page by getting an IMDB Pro Account. Bollocks to that.
Hmmmm so we've covered some British Comedy, international gasoline prices, a rather infamous porn star and a movie I've been waiting a long time for? What's left to talk about? Yeah I'm stuck, so I'll leave you with this sweet t-shirt. Man if I worked at a video store I'd totally wear it. Maybe not everyday . . . but damn close to it.
Until next time
