Back again

Well it seems that there are five more video clips from the Rollins show I went to in Winnipeg the other weekend, and the video above is the 2nd of the six on the YouTubes; in case you missed it here's the first one, and the third, fourth, fifth and sixth.

But enough of that for now, eh? Okay well how about a couple pictures since you asked so nicely:

Damn that seemed like way too much work, I would have thought that using the WYSIWYG editor here would have made it as easy as dropping pictures into a Word document . . . hmmm maybe that's what I'll have to do in the future, type in word then copy into here?
.
I wonder if that's any smoother an operation?
.
Anyway how about some not quite news, eh? Seems that it's not just Newfies and tradesmen who are rushing west to the oil money of Alberta according to this article even British bobbies are pulling up stakes and heading for Alberta after being wooed over by the Provincial government, and from reading the article it's not just one or two either.
.
It's been a rough go of it lately for some of my favourite authors, and it seems that the author of the Discworld series of books, Terry Pratchett, is suffering from a rare form of Alzheimer's disease which he discusses in this interview here. It's a terrible thing to think that such a great writer will slowly fade away. Here's to hoping that he can keep his faculties for a good long while and continue to entertain me with his great stories which I can only describe as the Hitchhiker's Guide meets the Lord of the Rings.
.
And now it's just about time for me to get going, but I would like to ask for a favour or opinion; I want to get some new glasses but am a horrible shopper, so if you could make some recommendations for new specs that'd be super.
.
Thanks.

Happy Maundy Thursday

As I'm sure most of you are aware we're in the depths of Holy Week here and today is Maundy (Holy) Thursday celebrating the last supper. And don't forget the Easter (another pagan celebration (Eostre) yoinked by the Church to ease recruitment and up their numbers) is fast approaching, right now if I can be honest with you my favourite part of Easter is the four day weekend, that's right bitches I get Good Friday (mandated stat holiday in Canada) and Easter Monday off.

But enough of the preaching, how about
the video up there? That is the opening couple minutes from the Henry Rollins show I was at this past Sunday. It was a great show for sure, Henry hasn't let me down yet. I may not always agree with what he has to say, but damn if I don't like to listen to him.

If you haven't heard his spoken word stuff before, check it out, there's bunches of it on
YouTube or check out some of his writings; I don't like it all (I prefer his stories about his experiences to his poetry, as very few of them involve a man from Nantucket or a girl named Jill). Get in the Van (either on CD or in book format) is something that you should check out, I thought it was a great book and I was utterly amazed at just how rough one of the most important bands in the American hardcore scene lived.

And today is not just the selected anniversary of
the Last Supper, but it's also the anniversary of the death of England's King Henry the Fourth in 1413, Sir Isaac Newton in 1727 and the Beatles in 1969 . . . well not quite, today is actually John Lennon & Yoko Ono's wedding anniversary. I'm no Beatles fan so I have no real opinion about the quality of their music before or after she came on the scene.

Sure there are some Beatles songs I like, but I'm far from rabid over them.
But onto to something more important & current; March 19th 2008 is a sad day for not just the realm of sci-fi but to the world at large as one of our greatest contemporary, and one of my personal favourite, authors
Mr. Arthur C. Clarke died at the age of 90 on his adopted home, the island nation of Sri Lanka.

If you ever watched
Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World you'll get that last reference there.

And some new from the world of
classic British heavy metal, Iron Maiden has added more Canadian shows to their Somewhere Back in Time tour, and one of them includes a June 9, 2008 stop at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. Oh you know I'll be there rocking out like it's 1984 all over again . . . and I'm not just saying that because they stage set for this tour is based on the one from the Powerslave tour. Get your tickets here, when they go on sale next week, if you're interested.

Well that's more than enough for today - I'm outta here.

Knowledge Without Mileage = Bullshit

This Sunday I'm off to the River City to see the aging alternative icon, Mr. Henry Rollins, himself perform what I'm sure will be another fantastic spoken word show at the historic Walker, or I guess that should be Burton Cummings, Theatre. I've been looking forward to this show since before Giftmas.

Not only is Henry an icon of the American Hardcore Punk Scene from the early 80's, fronting State of Alert (exactly, who?), Black Flag and the Rollins Band, but he's also an accomplished writer, business man and actor. You should check his stuff out, his spoken word is definitely not what one would expect from tattooed, thick neck punker who used to have to fight with fans at shows. The video above is one of his rants from a spoken word show, if you liked that one there are several others on YouTube.

This might not be the most up to date information, but it's public service announcement time, and no this isn't a message to let a select group of affected people out there that they need to go out and get tested right away, this is about a different kind of viral infection. Turns out that the digital photo frame you bought at Costco, and a couple Costco related retailers, in a convenient 100 pack this Giftmas just might be infected with a sweet little virus . . . and since they came from China they're probably covered in sweet and tasty lead based paint too. What a great gift, off your kid and your computer with one tool.

Now it's time for a different PSA, this one for the geeks out there who'd like some religion but can't pull themselves away from their MIB Ewok action figure with the plastic cape on a Sunday morning but still really need to get their pray on, according to this article the Church of the Jedi has reached 400, 000 members. The force and the assmar is strong in these ones, yes.

Here's something that I thought was pretty cool, and trust me I know cool, Hollywood films done in the style of classic Russian woodcuts, and yes there is a Star Wars one in there. Recognize any of the others?

And now it's time for a little fun, according to this website I could take on 23 five year olds in a fight. How many could you? And yes it is a contest.

And that's it for now, I'll leave you with a couple sweet rap videos, here and here, about a being a regular everyday normal by by comedian Jon Lajoie. Watch out for the language.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Chucky!

So after about a month off this site I'm back, don't worry I'm a-okay, but I was travelling and away from home for work for the past three weeks, so that made working my interweb based magic here more than a little in convenient, and guess what?

I'm off to Wunnumin Lake this morning, but this trip should just be for the day, but that doesn't mean I can't spend a little time here sharing some important and/or entertaining news with you.

First how about some sweet celeb pictures, starting with the Lindsay Lohan photo shoot where they attempted to recreate famous Marilyn Monroe photos. Not a bad job, but in these pictures it seems that dear sweet Lindsay just can't match Norma Jeane's sweet pouty sexuality. Kudos for trying though. No matter I'm more of a Bettie Page fan anyway.

Here's another photo shoot, but this time it's Jessica Alba recreating a bunch of classic horror movie moments. Personally I think this one is a great idea with less than stellar execution, but that's just my opinion. No matter I'm still more of a Bettie Page fan anyway.

If you're a Bettie Page fan, and I know you are, you'll defo want to check out the art of world renowned pinup artist Olivia. I was first introduced to Olivia's art in high school when I bought a box of trading cards featuring her art . . . I guess I was at an impressionable age or something. At that same time I had purchased trading card sets featuring the art of Boris Vellejo and the Hildebrandt brothers as well. I'm a worldly mofo ain't I?

But that's enough geekery, art and quasi-porn for now, how about some real not quite news? According to this academic study lack of sexual desire and infrequent intercourse are among the most common sexual problems experienced by New Zealanders. I guess the sheep just aren't as pretty as they used to be, eh?

Time is running short so I think I'll leave you all with the Picard song, or perhaps you'd prefer a computer animated version?

Until next time.
