What I'm Watching

1 - 2 - 3 - 4

You might recognize the video up there from the latest iPod commercials; the singer's voice (Feist) in the the little clip you get to see in the commercial was enough to get me intrigued so when I found out who she was I had to check out some of her music. Defo not what I'd usually listen to, but she does have a rather unique voice . . . . but I don't know if I can listen to much of it for long, but her friend Peaches (if you saw Jackass 2 or listened to the soundtrack she's responsible for the tune "Fuck the Pain Away") I might be able to listen to more of . . . maybe.

But enough of that - did anyone else watch the season premiere of Heroes Monday night? Was anyone else a little unimpressed? I mean it was a good episode of TV, but it wasn't anything special either, better than most shows, but not stand out at all for Heroes.

But at least it was better than the season one finale. And I thought that the 2nd season was going to be following a new group of heroes on new adventures, not he same group with a couple more thrown into the mix fighting a super Sylar.

But right now I am planning to watch the season premiere of The Bionic Woman, if I remember correctly it's being made by some of the same people as Battlestar Galactica (one of if not the best show on TV) and will at least tonight be featuring Katee Sackhoff as an evil bionic woman. Can you say Giggity?

If you're interested here's a link to Katee on the Jimmy Kimmel Live on August 1, 2007 talking about among other things the upcoming Bionic Woman show and her role on it. Sadly they edited out the bits where she was professing her undying love for me. Something about having to keep her accessible for the fan boys out there.

Yeah that's the ticket.

I did enjoy the season premiere of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit last night, even though it was just another episode of the show, nothing really made it stand out against the other episodes of the series. But here's something, did you know that actor Richard Belzer has made television history - his character Detective John Munch has now appeared in 10 different shows, you can read about it here if you're interested.

And since we're on the top of Law & Order I might as well exhaust my catalog of L&O info; like Cracked's list of the seven most awkward Law & Order celebrity cameos or this case of life imitating art a little too much; 'Law and Order: SVU' actor, Albert Insinnia age 57 who played Lt. Pizelli on two episodes of the show (exactly who?), was charged with having child porn, read about it here if you like.

Well I think that's enough for today, but I will sign off with this picture, proof of reincarnation, because it looks like SNL Alum Chris Farley has been reincarnated as a three year old girl . . . in a van, down by the ri-ver!

'Cause he rips, when he skates, he never hesitates. . .

Okay granted there are better Suicidal Tendencies songs, but the video above was my first exposure to the band and because of it I ended up buying their album "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today" on cassette from the Columbia House Music Club (remember those fuckers, the 12 albums for a penny guys). Man I swear when i first saw that video it was a whole lot cooler. . . . honest. I even had an ST patch on my jean jacket at one time . . . I know I know soo-oh cool eh?

But enough of that, today is a big day for history, or at least pop culture history; for instance today is the 27th anniversary of Led Zeppelin drummer Jon Bonham's death, in case you don't know he was found dead after choking to death on his own vomit after a day of heavy drinking, or as I like to refer to it pulled a Bon Scott.

Since we're talking Zeppelin here, they are going to be performing a one off charity reunion show at London's O2 Arena on November 26, 2007 as part of the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute show to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund.

If you don't know who Ertegun is, he was one of the co-owners/founders of Atlantic Records and was the man who signed Zeppelin to the label.

Today is also the 19th anniversary of the death of former American President Jimmy Carter's brother Billy from pancreatic cancer. Billy Carter was probably best known for shilling for the Libyan government and Billy Beer.

And it was 16 years ago today that everyone's favourite over achieving teenage brainiac television doctor, Doogie Howser (played by Neil Patrick Harris (or NPH as the cool kids call him) who while playing a parody of himself was one of the highlights of Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle and is apparently a very content gay man) lost his virginity on TV.

Well that's it for today, but I will eave you with a question, would you give these hitch hikers a ride?

Until next time.

Maybe If I Reverse the Polarity

I'm at some point we've all realised that Hollywood (or I guess movies & TV in general) tends to play a little fast and loose with the rules of science, but hey it's the movies, but no matter here's a list of some of the worst offences from film. I figure you have to realise that movies aren't written/made by experts in every field so no matter your particular area of expertise is, whether it's aeronautics or being awesome (as mine is), you're going to find some mistakes/inconsistencies in the film . . . just hopefully they aren't too bad.

One of my favourites was when Wolverine was doing some computer hacking in the film Swordfish in front of many computer screens and one of the screens had AutoCAD on it. For those of you who don't know AutoCAD is a piece of drafting software (le sigh, I heart AutoCAD) I know it can do a whole lot more than what I use it for, but I doubt it has any hacking potential.

Since we're talking science and broken science how about Live Science's collection of the Top 10 Science Myths? The list and its write ups are definitely an interesting read for the geek set and/or Mythbusters fans.

Speaking of Mythbusters, Kari is definitely hot, probably because of the setting she's in on the show, her wicked red hair and photos like these (here are others if you're interested), but I really do miss Scottie on the show . . . something a about a dyed, pierced tattooed woman welding that I just can't explain.

But enough of that, how about a nice collection of 25 of the Strangest Laws from around the World? All I can say is thank Jebus (or the Flying Spaghetti Monster) that I read number 14 now as there's a chance that we'll go there on our trip to Malaysia in just over one month now and would much like to return with my head still attached to my body.

Since Halloween is only a little better than a month away I thought I'd share this link with some cool scary Halloweenie paper toys that you can print out on your home (or work) printer cut out and put together. There's some cool stuff there for sure, I might have to get me some heavy paper and go to town on the new printer at work and see how these work.

And to day I'll sign off with a small collection of interesting photos that you've maybe been emailed or emailed to people at one point in time or another; the underwater tiger is my favourite.

That's her for now, later.

Something set in Bangor, Maine

First off I'd like to open up with a big Happy 60th birthday to American horror writer Stephen King. There was a time (I was about 13 or so) when I was reading a lot of Stephen King books, but I sorta burnt myself out on them; maybe it was just the books I was picking or I was reading to many in a row or something, but they were getting to be too similar. Something set in Maine, usually Bangor (it seemed) that was either happening to kids or the main characters when they were kids with a whole lot of cursing.

Anyway I'm sure there's more important things to write about here.

Like how about Vanessa Hudgens' Nude Photo? If you haven't heard about this somewhere already I'm surprised, but in case you haven't or you don't know who Vanessa is she's most famous for being in Disney's High School Musical (here's her imdb page) and now having a nudie picture of her skipping around the interweb. Let that be a lesson to you, be very careful when take nudie pics of yourself and who you share them with, but hey ain't techmology grand?

Or how about the pics that Bam Margera took of his wife Missy Rothstein Margera for Playboy?

If a little celebrity flesh isn't your style, maybe you're more interested in RetroCrush's list of the 20 Coolest Superhero Costumes. RetroCrush's lists/articles are always good and with this one personally I can't argue with the number one choice but I have to say I think Superman is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high on the list. But it's a long established fact that I'm a Superman Hater.

And I know it's something you've been wondering for a long long time, but monkeys vs toddlers, who can kick who's ass? Well wonder no longer muchachos, let the good people over at Cracked answer that question for you here. You already know who I'm rooting for.

And I'm going to sign off with this, possibly one of the most perfect t-shirts ever.

Until the next blog

A Must Have New Product

I thought I'd open up with a link to a commercial for a great new product I just found out about the other day. I'm sure after watching this you'll be thinking I want to get Khum Dhan too.

In case you wondering who came out on top in the 2007 World Beard & Mustache Championships, wonder no longer, because here's a the link to the winners. Man oh man now that collection of facial hair shows some definite commitment and a serious investment of time. Maybe I have a new goal to shoot for . . . I do like the Imperial and Hungarian mustaches and the Musketeer goatee is pretty sweet as well . . . something to think on, but in the mean time maybe I'll just let my beard grow in . . . and no I don't mean *that* kind of beard.

And here's some good news for the 80's kids and Goonies fans of all ages, according to this article there is a follow up to the movie in the works and it's going to be animated. I don't know about you but I've been waiting 22 years for a Goonies sequel and I still love me some cartoons, so this could be a very good thing, a very good thing indeed.

And what might be more good news for the 80's kids, or the shattering of another treasured childhood memory, there is a live action GI Joe film in the works (also scheduled for a 2009 release), to be directed by Stephen Sommers. You can read a bit about it here or check out the imdb page here, if you have an imdb pro account . . . which I don't. Fuckers. But anyway I don't think it will be hard to make a movie better than the 1985 animated debacle that was the GI Joe movie (Cobra Lalalalalalaa anyone??) but it might be hard to do for the man who brought us such stinkers as Van Helsing, the Mummy and the Mummy Returns.

Okay I have to admit the Mummy wasn't that bad, but you know what I mean/where I was going, right?

If you're a fan of Marvel Comics, Norse Mythology or superhero movies in general you'll be pleased to hear that there's a movie version of the comic book Thor (a little twist on the classic mythological Thor) coming to light, presently scheduled for a 2009 release. According to the film's imdb page actor Kevin McKidd is rumoured to be playing Thor in the film, but according to this brief write up the people at Marvel are pushing for pro wrestler Triple H to play the part, even though Director Matthew Vaughn wants McKidd.

I might have to go with Vaughn on this one after all he's been a part of some very good films in my humble opinion.

And I'll leave you with this important bit of information - rock and wrestling (one of my all time favourites for sure, I'm hoping he decides to return to ring sometime soon) superstar Chris Jericho will be going on a book signing tour to promote his book "A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex", complete with a stop in Winnipeg on November 15 at an as of yet undetermined location and at an undetermined time. I doubt I'll be able to make the signing, but I think I'll be getting a copy of the book fo' sho'.

And remember, Goonies never say die!

This is going to be really short . . .

Did you know that today is National Play-Doh Day? Well it is suckahs, go break out your rainbow case of colours and your mop top hair shop and have some safe non-toxic modeling clay fun.

Imagine if you had this much play-doh when you were a kid? Man it would take days to eat.

And that's it, told you it was going to be short.

Insert Catchy Title Here

This is probably going to be a short one, but this is something that should be shared. Anyway apparently Toronto schools are all about having their students killed and according to this article from the Globe & Mail in response to a fatal stabbing of a Toronto High School student this past Tuesday Ontario Liberal Premiere Dalton McGuinty wants a nation wide ban on handguns.

Okay you read that right, did I read the article right, someone gets stabbed so you ban pistols? All I can say about that is WTF? Now even if this were in response a shooting of high school student I'd still think that was a knee jerk, grandstanding action from a Provincial member of the Federal Party that brought Canada the smashing failure that is/was gun registry out to grab some headlines and appeal to the anti-gun groups.

I don't get the logic behind it, but maybe I'm too simple too, after all you'd think there'd have to be some reasoning behind the thinking that someone who is going to kill or shoot someone won't do it for fear of breaking a Federal firearms law.

But no matter I won't be voting Liberal in the upcoming October 10 Provincial Election.

But hey that's enough of the serious for now, here's something that has an effect on me, but not so much the same one as Mr. McGuinty's stance of firearms. Turns out that according to this article I can no longer perform weddings in the state of Pennsylvania. Seems that some (probably religious) group of State law makers feels that churches that ordain over the Internet (like my church the Universal Life Church) make a mockery of the institution of marriage. Little do they understand that I got ordained to make a mockery of organised religion as a whole.

I'll take this opportunity to make you aware of an aspiring local rapper Nicky 9 Lines, you can check out his videos on YouTube here or his MySpace here. Rap isn't my thing, so maybe I'm a harsher critic of this than need, but maybe you'll like it.

And finally I will leave you with this YouTube video of Alex Trebek (hey I didn't know he was Ukrainian) losing his patience during an actual episode of Celebrity Jeopardy. Which leaves us asking, does stupid mean anything to you?

Today is a day that will live infamy

Well we all know that today is September 11 aka 9/11 the anniversary of the coordinated airplane hijacking and subsequent crashing of commercial air liners into the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. The after effects of this are still being felt today every time you go into an airport and have to suffer through long lines at security with out enough gates or minimum wage safety screeners and how much safer do you feel on a plane now that you know that the guy across the aisle from you can only bring a dab of hand lotion on board and has to leave his water at the security check point?

But enough of the serious stuff, how about this; check out this link to see an amazing photo and bit of video of a plane being stuck by lightning while leaving Osaka airport . . . and I have to agree with the guy who posted the pic and video originally; how can a plane stay in the air after something like that but for fear for everyone on board's life you can't use your cell phone (but you can use the phone built into the seat?)?

In case airplanes aren't your bag, baby yeah, how about the ten weirdest things for sale on Amazon.com? I don't know about you but I think I need one of these and one of these . . . . but what I really need is one these, I mean shit who doesn't need a TARDIS USB hub?

And to appeal to the kid in all of us, how about Wizard's list of the Top 100 Toys of the past Decade? And I know you'll all be happy to know that I have #2 in my living as we speak . . . or as I type and you read.

To shift gears from toys to movies, how about some new pics from the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight? I've got high hopes for this one, Batman Begins was a great film and I think that everything I've seen or read to date about this one looks bad ass.

If Batman isn't your speed, how about Harold & Kumar's new flick, Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam? You can check out the trailer here if you're so inclined. All I can say is I'm glad that NPH is back in this one, he was one of the high points of the original.

And finally I'll sign off with the pictures that George A. Romero released from his newest zombie movie, "Diary of the Dead", check 'em out here.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnssssssss

And we're back!

Finally back to posting something after over month's absence. Makes you wonder what I've been doing, eh?

Well it's been nothing to exciting but I have been riding the local crime wave, although things are quiet again but man was the beginning of August a busy time, here's some info in case you aren't sure of what happened:

From the CKDR website:

Sioux Lookout Man Charged With Attempted Murder
Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Tuesday, August 7th, 2007 am 9:49:52 AM

An unidentified man is in Thunder Bay Hospital in stable condition after an incident at a Sioux Lookout residence last Thursday night.OPP were called to a Front Street home around 10:30 to investigate the circumstances surrounding an injured male.

Police have charged 23-year-old Nathaniel Kamenawatamin of Sioux Lookout with attempted murder. He remains in custody.

That one took place right around the corner from my house, but at least this one happened on the other end of town:

Sioux Lookout Man Faces 2 Charges
Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 am 8:47:20 AM

A Sioux Lookout man is in custody after OPP located a woman in the bush Sunday morning.
The 21-year-old victim was spotted at the west end of Queen Street in Sioux Lookout.
As a result of an investigation and assistance from the community, police have arrested 23-year-old Charles Raymond Hattie.

Hattie faces counts of attempted murder and aggravated sexual assault.
The woman was transported to hospital for treatment.

That information was again lifted from the CKDR website.

But enough of that, how about something with a little more geek appeal, like a picture of Iron Man from the upcoming movie, and in case you're wondering just how it stacks up to the comic book Iron Man, have no fear because there's a comic book comparison shot there as well and as far as I can tell it's pretty much bang on.

And to keep your Iron Man excitement levels up here's the Iron Man movie footage they showed at the San Diego Comic Con. How awesome does that look? I know I'm eagerly awaiting the May 2008 release of the film.

Since we're on the topic of upcoming films, how about Alien vs Predator: Requiem? Here's the red band (that's cool in the know people talk for R-Rated) trailer for the film and just based on this it looks a whole lot better than the first big bunch of wank that was AVP, which was sadly lacking on the Aliens battling Predators bits that the title of the film might lead one to believe it contains. The movie is coming out on Christmas Day this year, because nothing says Christmas like Aliens fucking up Predators fucking people fucking up Predators fucking up Aliens, right?

Hey at least it makes more sense than a Labour Day release of Rob Zombie's Halloween - which if you're a Halloween or Rob Zombie movie fan you should see. Just looking at the two imdb pages for these films the recreation of this promo shot from the John Carpenter original into this one for the Zombie remake really appeals to me for some reason.

Enough geekery for now, time to movie onto bigger and better things . . . well okay maybe not bigger . . . but it's definitely amusing; even though this isn't late breaking news any more did you know that the Dad from TLC's Little People, Big World, Matt Roloff, was charged with DUI at the end of July?

No?

Well you can read about it here if you really want. Me I'm curious how/if they'll show this in the upcoming season(s) of the show? Will it be addressed or will they simply pretend like it never happened and just never have Matt driving anywhere. Only time will tell.

Time for something a little more current event like, like this:

Greece Fire! Looks like this has gone well past the point of dumping some baking soda on it or putting the lid back on the pot . . . but enough of the humour in bad taste, here's an article that talks about the wildfires raging all over Greece. But the the real reason why I'm sharing that link is they've got a satellite photo showing the huge plumes of smoke rising from various spots in the country and some pretty amazing photos of the fire and its aftermath.

Well that's enough for now, but I will leave with this link to pics of Hayden Panettierre, the cheerleader Claire from NBC's hit series Heroes (mark your calenders season 2 premieres Spetember 24), dressed up like a little German girl for the fan boys out there, and because I was stopped a while ago and told that I wasn't posting enough porn in here. Well it ain't porn but it's a start.

Enjoy
