To boldly go where no man has gone before . . .

Today is the 16th anniversary of the death, by heart attack in a Santa Monica hospital, of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Since we're talking Star Trek, looks like the cast for the upcoming film has been set; check it out over at IMBD. Big ups for being bold enough to put Shaun of the Dead and Harold on the bridge of the Enterprise . . . that is if this movie has the Enterprise in it, as this film is supposed to be a chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members during their time at Starfleet Academy.

In case you're planning to dress up for Hallowe'en and haven't tracked down a costume yet perhaps you can find something here in Cracked's list of the 30 Most Unsettling German Hallowe'en Costumes? I know it's right off the top but how about the cellphone costume? Man you gotta be confident to wear that one.

And if you wanna have that premium jack-o-lantern why don't you check out this tutorial showing how to make pumpkin stencils from photographs or try this one here. Good luck and if you make one share the pic, eh?

They're not quite Hallowe'enie but they are kinda creepy and kooky, but not quite mysterious and ooky, check out these pics are that are made up of half real scenes and half pictures from magazines. Sure it might not make sense right now but click the link they are pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

And I think I'll sign off today with a piece of information that no doubt will be of use to everyone, how to remove CD scratches with a bannana. I haven't tried it so I can't speak from experience about how well it works, but if it's on the internet it has to be real, right?

Until next blog.

Sonofabitch!

I just full on bit my lip, shit did that hurt. You'd think with over 30 years of eating experience I'd be done with that, but apparently fuck no. Ah well what can you do eh?

Anyway onto the important stuff; it's secret that I like lists and I like to read so this one is a perfect fit, the Random House Modern Library's list of 100 Best Novels, as rated by their board and by their readership. I've only read four (believe it or not) from the Board's list, but I have read 14 from the Reader's list and am currently reading their number #1 pick. Looks like the readership has a whole lot more sci-fi/fantasy geeks in it than the board does.

Since we're talking lists here's a list of the Ten Most Awful Action Figures (the list must've been written by a lady because no self resepcting man would call an action figure a doll). I have to agree that there is some shit in that pile but I really have to disagree with a few of them.

Like Mr. T at number 9? I pity the foo' who don't think Mr. T is still cool . . . and I'm not just saying that because I have that same action figure in my living room still in its original packaging. I know, holy comic-book guy Batman.

I also have to disagree with the Hitler action figure at number 3; granted he was an evil horrible person who deserved death and then some for his crimes, but the action figure itself doesn't look bad. Good likeness, good uniform, to me it seems like a good action figure of a very bad person . . . maybe that's what makes it awful? But then again that can't be the criteria, can it? If so you've got some splaining to do for the number 1 pick.

Oh and just in case you're in the hunt for more different Third Reich Action Figures, look no further here you go. Man what isn't there on the interweb.

I'm also thinking that the lady who put the list together must've been a devote Christian to put the Almighty God action figure, with AK-47 and slightly Freddie Mercury-esque cape in at number 1.

Enough lists for now, how about a little shmaltz? Seems that a class of school kids have adopted an American Airborne Captain currently deployed in Iraq and as part of the deal they've sent him a little stuffed bear. Obviously this guy is a good shit because he's taken the time to photograph the bear's adventures and keep the kids updated on his goings on via this website.

And today i think I'll sign off with a video on YouTube of the Tourette's Guy. I don't know if it's all the painpills I've been taking but man that me laughing so hard I was crying . . . or maybe I'm just a bad person. Anyway if you liked that, here's some more sweet Tourette's Guy action on YouTube for you. Obviously you don't want to be watching these while at work.

And personally I don't think their garbage disposal sounded like Chewbacca taking a shit either, but maybe it was just the bad audio on that clip?

Oops, she did it again!

Well it looks like everybody's favourite Mouseketeer southern gal turned pop tart and walking train wreck Britney Spears has gone out with her underpants on again. Man I've seen Britney's shiny giny so many times now I'm starting to think we might be taking our relationship to the next level and I don't know if I'm ready for that.

Slightly more seriously the woman has to be an exhibitionist, I mean why else would she forgo wearing gitch in public when she knows (or at least I know) there'll be swarms of photographers around ready snap a few shots of lady parts? Or maybe she's just dumb and trashy?

You can see more photos here and here if you're interested.

But that's enough of that for now - last night I happened to watch about the last 2/3's of Wales' answer to Jackass, Dirty Sanchez, not to be confused with the sex act, film (here's the trailer on YouTube if you're curious). Wow was that movie something, many of the stunts were quite disgusting, may have involved minor cannibalism and a whole lot of vomiting. I enjoyed it but spent a lot of the movie groaning, retching and/or hiding my eyes.

There are a bunch of other Dirty Sanchez clips on YouTube here if you wanna see.

Since we're on the topic of dirty, how about this article that brings a whole new meaning to the term dirty nurses.

And finally I'll sign off with this article from the Telegraph in the UK, which I found rather amusing, aptly entitled 30 reasons why we hate the french. Maybe number 11 is why in my mind I imagine that Paris smells like pee?

Well that's all for now - later days.

So, did you pick a winner?

Looks like in my riding (Kenora-Rainy River in the hizay!) the NDP MPP (and Provincial Party Leader) Howard Hamptom was re-elected along nine other of his cohorts across the province in what looks a huge Liberal majority government.
.
Not only was it election, but it was also referendum day and looks like close 2/3's of the Ontarians who did vote (record low for voter turnout yesterday with 52.6% of eligible voters voting) voted against the Mixed Member Proportional governmental system in favour of the existing First Past the Post system. You can read a little about it here if you like, but what more do you need to know . . . not that it matters I guess I think most people just voted against it because it was different and think that our present system is the same as the one that the see on TV from the US.
.
But enough of the real news, did you know that it was today in 1981 that Andy Kaufman successfully defends his World Intergender Wrestling Champion title in Atlantic City, by defeating Playboy magazine's Miss September, Susan Smith, pinning her at the 18-minute mark.
.
And decidedly un-pron related, but no doubt the best news you'll read all day according to this article none other than Mr. Samwise Gamgee aka Sean Astin says that "Goonies 2" an absolute certainty. .
.
Hey gotta love IMDB - it just learned me that Mr. Astin will be starring as Twoflower in a BBC adaptation of none other than Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic . . . but the big question is who will play The Luggage? That's wicked, because I don't know about you, but I heart The Discworld.
If you're a fan of fantasy stories and British humour a la Hitchhiker's Guide (book of course not the movie, so much of the humour from the novels just couldn't be translated to the big screen) then you should definitely check out the Discworld books.
.
Well I should get going, gotta go up to Kingfisher Lake for the day, but before I go check out this sweet map of the Community from Google Maps . . . shit the Google Maps for my town aren't close that detailed.

How's the Turkey Hangover?

I had goose this year for Thanksgiving myself so maybe I avoided all the tryptophan? If you're curious about the holiday and wonder why we get a three day weekend out of it, here's a bit of history on the day. Me, I'm just happy it's a paid day off.

Now if only we get one in February like Alberta and Manitoba . . . I think the NDP said that we should have one, too bad they only won 7 seats in the last provincial election . . . and one of them was in my riding.

Here's a great website to check out called Found Magazine, basically people scan and send in things they find like letters, notes, photos, whatever. This one here is a favourite of mine so far, because well it's some damned good rules to live by. If only it had a reference to the He-Man Woman Haters Club.

Here's another that I thought was cool and mostly because I know what it's about, WWe Wrestler Bob Holly being thrown through a table and having a gash get ripped in his back on piece of the table. I tried to find a video on line but no luck, but often times they show the clip in a "Don't try this at home, kids." segment that they air.

If you liked Found Magazine perhaps you'd also enjoy this website simply entitled Pictures of Walls, which is a collection of photos of things written on, you guess it walls.

This is another very cool website that is a collection of found photos that the site admin found by developing the film he found in old cameras he acquired. A very interesting, voyeuristic look into people's lives, eh?

But that's enough for now, so today I will leave you with this sweet shirt here, aptly titled Guitar Solo. You know you want one. Okay one more thing, since we're literally rocking the Star Wars how about Bill Murray as lounge singer Nick Winter singing his tribute to Star Wars?

Later.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnsssss

Today in 1968 the classic cult horror film Night of the Living Dead is released in movie theaters. This low-budget movie, directed by George A. Romero, centers around a farmhouse surrounded by the undead. Romero's early zombies lurch uncomfortably across the countryside (unlike the fast smooth moving zombies of 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead), stopping occasionally to snack on humans unlucky enough to escape, otherwise banging on boarded windows demanding snacks. This film has spawned several sequels and is responsible for setting the ground work for pretty much every zombie film to follow, and this time I don't mean Rob Zombie.

If you haven't seen it you can watch it here if you like.

If zombies aren't your thing, then maybe Mickey and the gang are? Because it was 36 years ago today that Walt Disney, the company, not the man, who died in 1966, opened Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida. If you're interested in a bit of history/information on the park that you might nto usually get do read this write up here, it's long but interesting.

But let's switch gears from history, to giggity; according to this article from EW industry sources claim that Jessica Biel (not to be confused with Jennifer Beals) is in talks to swing the trusty Lasso of Truth as Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League movie (currently without cast and scheduled for a 2010 release); although this one from MTV says she turned down the offer. I guess my being excited about this news means that I am more fan boy than I like to admit, eh?
You may also be interested to see the evolution of Wonder Woman over time, for instance how about this panel from a DC Golden Age Wonder Woman comic and this panel from a more up to date comic.
And I'll sign off today with a little more giggity; here are pics of Keeley Hazell done up like a pin up model from the 40's. Man all I can say is I loves the pin up girls. Anyway if you likes those pics of Miss Hazell, perhaps you'd be interested in some more?
And that's it for today.
