Dead or Alive?

The other day I tried this Celebrity are they dead or alive quiz and managed to get 17 correct, how did you do? You might be surprised to see who is or isn't dead these days. Sadly the quiz had no mention of undead celebs. If you're really keen on keeping up with which celebs are dying when it's news you can always sign up for the Celebrity Death Beeper. If you sign up for the service they'll email you headlines/news when a celebrity dies, be prepared though, it's not just a-listers who buy it.

Speaking of dead celebs this past weekend at the age of 69 Evel Knievel died, sadly of natural causes. With him gone who will pilot, or at least attempt to pilot, our rocket powered motorcycles over the gorges and canyons of the world?

If you've got someone on your giftmas shopping list who's into the strange & unusual you may want to consider getting them something from the Ship of Fools 12 Days of Kitschmas list, a collection of some of the finest gift ideas ever assembled on one smart ass website.

If that doesn't do it for you, how about a board game based on the classic Christmas movie, A Christmas Story? Maybe this year I'll finally get that Daisy Red Ryder 500 shot carbine action BB gun I been asking for so long.

If a Red Ryder is a little to butch and underpowered for you, maybe you need something from the good people over at Glam Guns like this sweet Hello Kitty decorated AK?

Well that's her for today - how's about I leave with a little video of Adam West Batman rocking a little sweet Batusi action?

Until Next time.

Back in Black

Well after over a month I'm back on the blog; where have I been you ask? Well what's it to you? You a cop or something?

No matter I've been halfway around the world and back again brothers and sisters, I've been to the Hong Kong Airport (twice), Singapore, the Gopeng/Ipoh region in Malaysia, Betong Thailand, Kuala Lumpur, Wapekeka and last week Toronto & Thunder Bay. So I've been busy . . . and lazy . . . and not that motivated. It happens.

But yeah I'm back now and hopefully will be more regular on here . . . but we'll see no promises eh. But at least I'm here today and today we're going to explore some stuff on Google Maps. We'll start with a map showing the hotel we stayed at in Singapore, the Perak Hotel. Here's a map of our home base in Malaysia the town of Gopeng.

Here's a map showing our Thai stop over Betong.

This is a map showing where we stayed (the Mariott) in Kuala Lumpur which was a short cab ride away from the Petronas Towers (5 Ringatt to get there, 15 to get back). If you haven't seen the towers here they are on a map.

Enough vacation, how about some work stuff? In alphabetical order here are the communities I go to for work, starting with a map of Kasabonika Lake and here's the community website. From Kas it's off to Kingfisher Lake and here's their community map. After Kingfisher it's off to Wapekeka (aka Angling Lake) to check out their community from space. These three communities all have pretty good resolution in their maps and you can zoom in quite close although I can say for certain that the map of Kas is over a year out of date.

Now we're off to Wawakapewin (aka Longdog) their map doesn't have the detail of the last three but the community is pretty small with a road, a few other pubic buildings, a water pump house and a diesel generator. And trust me it's not the best place to get weathered in over the weekend.

Our last stop will be Wunnumin Lake, where again their map is lacking in a lot of detail. I can only assume that there isn't much mineral exploration going in the area.

Ain't Google Maps grand?

Until next time.

To boldly go where no man has gone before . . .

Today is the 16th anniversary of the death, by heart attack in a Santa Monica hospital, of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Since we're talking Star Trek, looks like the cast for the upcoming film has been set; check it out over at IMBD. Big ups for being bold enough to put Shaun of the Dead and Harold on the bridge of the Enterprise . . . that is if this movie has the Enterprise in it, as this film is supposed to be a chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members during their time at Starfleet Academy.

In case you're planning to dress up for Hallowe'en and haven't tracked down a costume yet perhaps you can find something here in Cracked's list of the 30 Most Unsettling German Hallowe'en Costumes? I know it's right off the top but how about the cellphone costume? Man you gotta be confident to wear that one.

And if you wanna have that premium jack-o-lantern why don't you check out this tutorial showing how to make pumpkin stencils from photographs or try this one here. Good luck and if you make one share the pic, eh?

They're not quite Hallowe'enie but they are kinda creepy and kooky, but not quite mysterious and ooky, check out these pics are that are made up of half real scenes and half pictures from magazines. Sure it might not make sense right now but click the link they are pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

And I think I'll sign off today with a piece of information that no doubt will be of use to everyone, how to remove CD scratches with a bannana. I haven't tried it so I can't speak from experience about how well it works, but if it's on the internet it has to be real, right?

Until next blog.

Sonofabitch!

I just full on bit my lip, shit did that hurt. You'd think with over 30 years of eating experience I'd be done with that, but apparently fuck no. Ah well what can you do eh?

Anyway onto the important stuff; it's secret that I like lists and I like to read so this one is a perfect fit, the Random House Modern Library's list of 100 Best Novels, as rated by their board and by their readership. I've only read four (believe it or not) from the Board's list, but I have read 14 from the Reader's list and am currently reading their number #1 pick. Looks like the readership has a whole lot more sci-fi/fantasy geeks in it than the board does.

Since we're talking lists here's a list of the Ten Most Awful Action Figures (the list must've been written by a lady because no self resepcting man would call an action figure a doll). I have to agree that there is some shit in that pile but I really have to disagree with a few of them.

Like Mr. T at number 9? I pity the foo' who don't think Mr. T is still cool . . . and I'm not just saying that because I have that same action figure in my living room still in its original packaging. I know, holy comic-book guy Batman.

I also have to disagree with the Hitler action figure at number 3; granted he was an evil horrible person who deserved death and then some for his crimes, but the action figure itself doesn't look bad. Good likeness, good uniform, to me it seems like a good action figure of a very bad person . . . maybe that's what makes it awful? But then again that can't be the criteria, can it? If so you've got some splaining to do for the number 1 pick.

Oh and just in case you're in the hunt for more different Third Reich Action Figures, look no further here you go. Man what isn't there on the interweb.

I'm also thinking that the lady who put the list together must've been a devote Christian to put the Almighty God action figure, with AK-47 and slightly Freddie Mercury-esque cape in at number 1.

Enough lists for now, how about a little shmaltz? Seems that a class of school kids have adopted an American Airborne Captain currently deployed in Iraq and as part of the deal they've sent him a little stuffed bear. Obviously this guy is a good shit because he's taken the time to photograph the bear's adventures and keep the kids updated on his goings on via this website.

And today i think I'll sign off with a video on YouTube of the Tourette's Guy. I don't know if it's all the painpills I've been taking but man that me laughing so hard I was crying . . . or maybe I'm just a bad person. Anyway if you liked that, here's some more sweet Tourette's Guy action on YouTube for you. Obviously you don't want to be watching these while at work.

And personally I don't think their garbage disposal sounded like Chewbacca taking a shit either, but maybe it was just the bad audio on that clip?

Oops, she did it again!

Well it looks like everybody's favourite Mouseketeer southern gal turned pop tart and walking train wreck Britney Spears has gone out with her underpants on again. Man I've seen Britney's shiny giny so many times now I'm starting to think we might be taking our relationship to the next level and I don't know if I'm ready for that.

Slightly more seriously the woman has to be an exhibitionist, I mean why else would she forgo wearing gitch in public when she knows (or at least I know) there'll be swarms of photographers around ready snap a few shots of lady parts? Or maybe she's just dumb and trashy?

You can see more photos here and here if you're interested.

But that's enough of that for now - last night I happened to watch about the last 2/3's of Wales' answer to Jackass, Dirty Sanchez, not to be confused with the sex act, film (here's the trailer on YouTube if you're curious). Wow was that movie something, many of the stunts were quite disgusting, may have involved minor cannibalism and a whole lot of vomiting. I enjoyed it but spent a lot of the movie groaning, retching and/or hiding my eyes.

There are a bunch of other Dirty Sanchez clips on YouTube here if you wanna see.

Since we're on the topic of dirty, how about this article that brings a whole new meaning to the term dirty nurses.

And finally I'll sign off with this article from the Telegraph in the UK, which I found rather amusing, aptly entitled 30 reasons why we hate the french. Maybe number 11 is why in my mind I imagine that Paris smells like pee?

Well that's all for now - later days.

So, did you pick a winner?

Looks like in my riding (Kenora-Rainy River in the hizay!) the NDP MPP (and Provincial Party Leader) Howard Hamptom was re-elected along nine other of his cohorts across the province in what looks a huge Liberal majority government.
.
Not only was it election, but it was also referendum day and looks like close 2/3's of the Ontarians who did vote (record low for voter turnout yesterday with 52.6% of eligible voters voting) voted against the Mixed Member Proportional governmental system in favour of the existing First Past the Post system. You can read a little about it here if you like, but what more do you need to know . . . not that it matters I guess I think most people just voted against it because it was different and think that our present system is the same as the one that the see on TV from the US.
.
But enough of the real news, did you know that it was today in 1981 that Andy Kaufman successfully defends his World Intergender Wrestling Champion title in Atlantic City, by defeating Playboy magazine's Miss September, Susan Smith, pinning her at the 18-minute mark.
.
And decidedly un-pron related, but no doubt the best news you'll read all day according to this article none other than Mr. Samwise Gamgee aka Sean Astin says that "Goonies 2" an absolute certainty. .
.
Hey gotta love IMDB - it just learned me that Mr. Astin will be starring as Twoflower in a BBC adaptation of none other than Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic . . . but the big question is who will play The Luggage? That's wicked, because I don't know about you, but I heart The Discworld.
If you're a fan of fantasy stories and British humour a la Hitchhiker's Guide (book of course not the movie, so much of the humour from the novels just couldn't be translated to the big screen) then you should definitely check out the Discworld books.
.
Well I should get going, gotta go up to Kingfisher Lake for the day, but before I go check out this sweet map of the Community from Google Maps . . . shit the Google Maps for my town aren't close that detailed.

How's the Turkey Hangover?

I had goose this year for Thanksgiving myself so maybe I avoided all the tryptophan? If you're curious about the holiday and wonder why we get a three day weekend out of it, here's a bit of history on the day. Me, I'm just happy it's a paid day off.

Now if only we get one in February like Alberta and Manitoba . . . I think the NDP said that we should have one, too bad they only won 7 seats in the last provincial election . . . and one of them was in my riding.

Here's a great website to check out called Found Magazine, basically people scan and send in things they find like letters, notes, photos, whatever. This one here is a favourite of mine so far, because well it's some damned good rules to live by. If only it had a reference to the He-Man Woman Haters Club.

Here's another that I thought was cool and mostly because I know what it's about, WWe Wrestler Bob Holly being thrown through a table and having a gash get ripped in his back on piece of the table. I tried to find a video on line but no luck, but often times they show the clip in a "Don't try this at home, kids." segment that they air.

If you liked Found Magazine perhaps you'd also enjoy this website simply entitled Pictures of Walls, which is a collection of photos of things written on, you guess it walls.

This is another very cool website that is a collection of found photos that the site admin found by developing the film he found in old cameras he acquired. A very interesting, voyeuristic look into people's lives, eh?

But that's enough for now, so today I will leave you with this sweet shirt here, aptly titled Guitar Solo. You know you want one. Okay one more thing, since we're literally rocking the Star Wars how about Bill Murray as lounge singer Nick Winter singing his tribute to Star Wars?

Later.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnsssss

Today in 1968 the classic cult horror film Night of the Living Dead is released in movie theaters. This low-budget movie, directed by George A. Romero, centers around a farmhouse surrounded by the undead. Romero's early zombies lurch uncomfortably across the countryside (unlike the fast smooth moving zombies of 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead), stopping occasionally to snack on humans unlucky enough to escape, otherwise banging on boarded windows demanding snacks. This film has spawned several sequels and is responsible for setting the ground work for pretty much every zombie film to follow, and this time I don't mean Rob Zombie.

If you haven't seen it you can watch it here if you like.

If zombies aren't your thing, then maybe Mickey and the gang are? Because it was 36 years ago today that Walt Disney, the company, not the man, who died in 1966, opened Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida. If you're interested in a bit of history/information on the park that you might nto usually get do read this write up here, it's long but interesting.

But let's switch gears from history, to giggity; according to this article from EW industry sources claim that Jessica Biel (not to be confused with Jennifer Beals) is in talks to swing the trusty Lasso of Truth as Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League movie (currently without cast and scheduled for a 2010 release); although this one from MTV says she turned down the offer. I guess my being excited about this news means that I am more fan boy than I like to admit, eh?
You may also be interested to see the evolution of Wonder Woman over time, for instance how about this panel from a DC Golden Age Wonder Woman comic and this panel from a more up to date comic.
And I'll sign off today with a little more giggity; here are pics of Keeley Hazell done up like a pin up model from the 40's. Man all I can say is I loves the pin up girls. Anyway if you likes those pics of Miss Hazell, perhaps you'd be interested in some more?
And that's it for today.

1 - 2 - 3 - 4

You might recognize the video up there from the latest iPod commercials; the singer's voice (Feist) in the the little clip you get to see in the commercial was enough to get me intrigued so when I found out who she was I had to check out some of her music. Defo not what I'd usually listen to, but she does have a rather unique voice . . . . but I don't know if I can listen to much of it for long, but her friend Peaches (if you saw Jackass 2 or listened to the soundtrack she's responsible for the tune "Fuck the Pain Away") I might be able to listen to more of . . . maybe.

But enough of that - did anyone else watch the season premiere of Heroes Monday night? Was anyone else a little unimpressed? I mean it was a good episode of TV, but it wasn't anything special either, better than most shows, but not stand out at all for Heroes.

But at least it was better than the season one finale. And I thought that the 2nd season was going to be following a new group of heroes on new adventures, not he same group with a couple more thrown into the mix fighting a super Sylar.

But right now I am planning to watch the season premiere of The Bionic Woman, if I remember correctly it's being made by some of the same people as Battlestar Galactica (one of if not the best show on TV) and will at least tonight be featuring Katee Sackhoff as an evil bionic woman. Can you say Giggity?

If you're interested here's a link to Katee on the Jimmy Kimmel Live on August 1, 2007 talking about among other things the upcoming Bionic Woman show and her role on it. Sadly they edited out the bits where she was professing her undying love for me. Something about having to keep her accessible for the fan boys out there.

Yeah that's the ticket.

I did enjoy the season premiere of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit last night, even though it was just another episode of the show, nothing really made it stand out against the other episodes of the series. But here's something, did you know that actor Richard Belzer has made television history - his character Detective John Munch has now appeared in 10 different shows, you can read about it here if you're interested.

And since we're on the top of Law & Order I might as well exhaust my catalog of L&O info; like Cracked's list of the seven most awkward Law & Order celebrity cameos or this case of life imitating art a little too much; 'Law and Order: SVU' actor, Albert Insinnia age 57 who played Lt. Pizelli on two episodes of the show (exactly who?), was charged with having child porn, read about it here if you like.

Well I think that's enough for today, but I will sign off with this picture, proof of reincarnation, because it looks like SNL Alum Chris Farley has been reincarnated as a three year old girl . . . in a van, down by the ri-ver!

'Cause he rips, when he skates, he never hesitates. . .

Okay granted there are better Suicidal Tendencies songs, but the video above was my first exposure to the band and because of it I ended up buying their album "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today" on cassette from the Columbia House Music Club (remember those fuckers, the 12 albums for a penny guys). Man I swear when i first saw that video it was a whole lot cooler. . . . honest. I even had an ST patch on my jean jacket at one time . . . I know I know soo-oh cool eh?

But enough of that, today is a big day for history, or at least pop culture history; for instance today is the 27th anniversary of Led Zeppelin drummer Jon Bonham's death, in case you don't know he was found dead after choking to death on his own vomit after a day of heavy drinking, or as I like to refer to it pulled a Bon Scott.

Since we're talking Zeppelin here, they are going to be performing a one off charity reunion show at London's O2 Arena on November 26, 2007 as part of the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute show to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund.

If you don't know who Ertegun is, he was one of the co-owners/founders of Atlantic Records and was the man who signed Zeppelin to the label.

Today is also the 19th anniversary of the death of former American President Jimmy Carter's brother Billy from pancreatic cancer. Billy Carter was probably best known for shilling for the Libyan government and Billy Beer.

And it was 16 years ago today that everyone's favourite over achieving teenage brainiac television doctor, Doogie Howser (played by Neil Patrick Harris (or NPH as the cool kids call him) who while playing a parody of himself was one of the highlights of Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle and is apparently a very content gay man) lost his virginity on TV.

Well that's it for today, but I will eave you with a question, would you give these hitch hikers a ride?

Until next time.

Maybe If I Reverse the Polarity

I'm at some point we've all realised that Hollywood (or I guess movies & TV in general) tends to play a little fast and loose with the rules of science, but hey it's the movies, but no matter here's a list of some of the worst offences from film. I figure you have to realise that movies aren't written/made by experts in every field so no matter your particular area of expertise is, whether it's aeronautics or being awesome (as mine is), you're going to find some mistakes/inconsistencies in the film . . . just hopefully they aren't too bad.

One of my favourites was when Wolverine was doing some computer hacking in the film Swordfish in front of many computer screens and one of the screens had AutoCAD on it. For those of you who don't know AutoCAD is a piece of drafting software (le sigh, I heart AutoCAD) I know it can do a whole lot more than what I use it for, but I doubt it has any hacking potential.

Since we're talking science and broken science how about Live Science's collection of the Top 10 Science Myths? The list and its write ups are definitely an interesting read for the geek set and/or Mythbusters fans.

Speaking of Mythbusters, Kari is definitely hot, probably because of the setting she's in on the show, her wicked red hair and photos like these (here are others if you're interested), but I really do miss Scottie on the show . . . something a about a dyed, pierced tattooed woman welding that I just can't explain.

But enough of that, how about a nice collection of 25 of the Strangest Laws from around the World? All I can say is thank Jebus (or the Flying Spaghetti Monster) that I read number 14 now as there's a chance that we'll go there on our trip to Malaysia in just over one month now and would much like to return with my head still attached to my body.

Since Halloween is only a little better than a month away I thought I'd share this link with some cool scary Halloweenie paper toys that you can print out on your home (or work) printer cut out and put together. There's some cool stuff there for sure, I might have to get me some heavy paper and go to town on the new printer at work and see how these work.

And to day I'll sign off with a small collection of interesting photos that you've maybe been emailed or emailed to people at one point in time or another; the underwater tiger is my favourite.

That's her for now, later.

Something set in Bangor, Maine

First off I'd like to open up with a big Happy 60th birthday to American horror writer Stephen King. There was a time (I was about 13 or so) when I was reading a lot of Stephen King books, but I sorta burnt myself out on them; maybe it was just the books I was picking or I was reading to many in a row or something, but they were getting to be too similar. Something set in Maine, usually Bangor (it seemed) that was either happening to kids or the main characters when they were kids with a whole lot of cursing.

Anyway I'm sure there's more important things to write about here.

Like how about Vanessa Hudgens' Nude Photo? If you haven't heard about this somewhere already I'm surprised, but in case you haven't or you don't know who Vanessa is she's most famous for being in Disney's High School Musical (here's her imdb page) and now having a nudie picture of her skipping around the interweb. Let that be a lesson to you, be very careful when take nudie pics of yourself and who you share them with, but hey ain't techmology grand?

Or how about the pics that Bam Margera took of his wife Missy Rothstein Margera for Playboy?

If a little celebrity flesh isn't your style, maybe you're more interested in RetroCrush's list of the 20 Coolest Superhero Costumes. RetroCrush's lists/articles are always good and with this one personally I can't argue with the number one choice but I have to say I think Superman is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high on the list. But it's a long established fact that I'm a Superman Hater.

And I know it's something you've been wondering for a long long time, but monkeys vs toddlers, who can kick who's ass? Well wonder no longer muchachos, let the good people over at Cracked answer that question for you here. You already know who I'm rooting for.

And I'm going to sign off with this, possibly one of the most perfect t-shirts ever.

Until the next blog

A Must Have New Product

I thought I'd open up with a link to a commercial for a great new product I just found out about the other day. I'm sure after watching this you'll be thinking I want to get Khum Dhan too.

In case you wondering who came out on top in the 2007 World Beard & Mustache Championships, wonder no longer, because here's a the link to the winners. Man oh man now that collection of facial hair shows some definite commitment and a serious investment of time. Maybe I have a new goal to shoot for . . . I do like the Imperial and Hungarian mustaches and the Musketeer goatee is pretty sweet as well . . . something to think on, but in the mean time maybe I'll just let my beard grow in . . . and no I don't mean *that* kind of beard.

And here's some good news for the 80's kids and Goonies fans of all ages, according to this article there is a follow up to the movie in the works and it's going to be animated. I don't know about you but I've been waiting 22 years for a Goonies sequel and I still love me some cartoons, so this could be a very good thing, a very good thing indeed.

And what might be more good news for the 80's kids, or the shattering of another treasured childhood memory, there is a live action GI Joe film in the works (also scheduled for a 2009 release), to be directed by Stephen Sommers. You can read a bit about it here or check out the imdb page here, if you have an imdb pro account . . . which I don't. Fuckers. But anyway I don't think it will be hard to make a movie better than the 1985 animated debacle that was the GI Joe movie (Cobra Lalalalalalaa anyone??) but it might be hard to do for the man who brought us such stinkers as Van Helsing, the Mummy and the Mummy Returns.

Okay I have to admit the Mummy wasn't that bad, but you know what I mean/where I was going, right?

If you're a fan of Marvel Comics, Norse Mythology or superhero movies in general you'll be pleased to hear that there's a movie version of the comic book Thor (a little twist on the classic mythological Thor) coming to light, presently scheduled for a 2009 release. According to the film's imdb page actor Kevin McKidd is rumoured to be playing Thor in the film, but according to this brief write up the people at Marvel are pushing for pro wrestler Triple H to play the part, even though Director Matthew Vaughn wants McKidd.

I might have to go with Vaughn on this one after all he's been a part of some very good films in my humble opinion.

And I'll leave you with this important bit of information - rock and wrestling (one of my all time favourites for sure, I'm hoping he decides to return to ring sometime soon) superstar Chris Jericho will be going on a book signing tour to promote his book "A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex", complete with a stop in Winnipeg on November 15 at an as of yet undetermined location and at an undetermined time. I doubt I'll be able to make the signing, but I think I'll be getting a copy of the book fo' sho'.

And remember, Goonies never say die!

This is going to be really short . . .

Did you know that today is National Play-Doh Day? Well it is suckahs, go break out your rainbow case of colours and your mop top hair shop and have some safe non-toxic modeling clay fun.

Imagine if you had this much play-doh when you were a kid? Man it would take days to eat.

And that's it, told you it was going to be short.

Insert Catchy Title Here

This is probably going to be a short one, but this is something that should be shared. Anyway apparently Toronto schools are all about having their students killed and according to this article from the Globe & Mail in response to a fatal stabbing of a Toronto High School student this past Tuesday Ontario Liberal Premiere Dalton McGuinty wants a nation wide ban on handguns.

Okay you read that right, did I read the article right, someone gets stabbed so you ban pistols? All I can say about that is WTF? Now even if this were in response a shooting of high school student I'd still think that was a knee jerk, grandstanding action from a Provincial member of the Federal Party that brought Canada the smashing failure that is/was gun registry out to grab some headlines and appeal to the anti-gun groups.

I don't get the logic behind it, but maybe I'm too simple too, after all you'd think there'd have to be some reasoning behind the thinking that someone who is going to kill or shoot someone won't do it for fear of breaking a Federal firearms law.

But no matter I won't be voting Liberal in the upcoming October 10 Provincial Election.

But hey that's enough of the serious for now, here's something that has an effect on me, but not so much the same one as Mr. McGuinty's stance of firearms. Turns out that according to this article I can no longer perform weddings in the state of Pennsylvania. Seems that some (probably religious) group of State law makers feels that churches that ordain over the Internet (like my church the Universal Life Church) make a mockery of the institution of marriage. Little do they understand that I got ordained to make a mockery of organised religion as a whole.

I'll take this opportunity to make you aware of an aspiring local rapper Nicky 9 Lines, you can check out his videos on YouTube here or his MySpace here. Rap isn't my thing, so maybe I'm a harsher critic of this than need, but maybe you'll like it.

And finally I will leave you with this YouTube video of Alex Trebek (hey I didn't know he was Ukrainian) losing his patience during an actual episode of Celebrity Jeopardy. Which leaves us asking, does stupid mean anything to you?

Today is a day that will live infamy

Well we all know that today is September 11 aka 9/11 the anniversary of the coordinated airplane hijacking and subsequent crashing of commercial air liners into the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. The after effects of this are still being felt today every time you go into an airport and have to suffer through long lines at security with out enough gates or minimum wage safety screeners and how much safer do you feel on a plane now that you know that the guy across the aisle from you can only bring a dab of hand lotion on board and has to leave his water at the security check point?

But enough of the serious stuff, how about this; check out this link to see an amazing photo and bit of video of a plane being stuck by lightning while leaving Osaka airport . . . and I have to agree with the guy who posted the pic and video originally; how can a plane stay in the air after something like that but for fear for everyone on board's life you can't use your cell phone (but you can use the phone built into the seat?)?

In case airplanes aren't your bag, baby yeah, how about the ten weirdest things for sale on Amazon.com? I don't know about you but I think I need one of these and one of these . . . . but what I really need is one these, I mean shit who doesn't need a TARDIS USB hub?

And to appeal to the kid in all of us, how about Wizard's list of the Top 100 Toys of the past Decade? And I know you'll all be happy to know that I have #2 in my living as we speak . . . or as I type and you read.

To shift gears from toys to movies, how about some new pics from the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight? I've got high hopes for this one, Batman Begins was a great film and I think that everything I've seen or read to date about this one looks bad ass.

If Batman isn't your speed, how about Harold & Kumar's new flick, Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam? You can check out the trailer here if you're so inclined. All I can say is I'm glad that NPH is back in this one, he was one of the high points of the original.

And finally I'll sign off with the pictures that George A. Romero released from his newest zombie movie, "Diary of the Dead", check 'em out here.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnssssssss

And we're back!

Finally back to posting something after over month's absence. Makes you wonder what I've been doing, eh?

Well it's been nothing to exciting but I have been riding the local crime wave, although things are quiet again but man was the beginning of August a busy time, here's some info in case you aren't sure of what happened:

From the CKDR website:

Sioux Lookout Man Charged With Attempted Murder
Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Tuesday, August 7th, 2007 am 9:49:52 AM

An unidentified man is in Thunder Bay Hospital in stable condition after an incident at a Sioux Lookout residence last Thursday night.OPP were called to a Front Street home around 10:30 to investigate the circumstances surrounding an injured male.

Police have charged 23-year-old Nathaniel Kamenawatamin of Sioux Lookout with attempted murder. He remains in custody.

That one took place right around the corner from my house, but at least this one happened on the other end of town:

Sioux Lookout Man Faces 2 Charges
Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 am 8:47:20 AM

A Sioux Lookout man is in custody after OPP located a woman in the bush Sunday morning.
The 21-year-old victim was spotted at the west end of Queen Street in Sioux Lookout.
As a result of an investigation and assistance from the community, police have arrested 23-year-old Charles Raymond Hattie.

Hattie faces counts of attempted murder and aggravated sexual assault.
The woman was transported to hospital for treatment.

That information was again lifted from the CKDR website.

But enough of that, how about something with a little more geek appeal, like a picture of Iron Man from the upcoming movie, and in case you're wondering just how it stacks up to the comic book Iron Man, have no fear because there's a comic book comparison shot there as well and as far as I can tell it's pretty much bang on.

And to keep your Iron Man excitement levels up here's the Iron Man movie footage they showed at the San Diego Comic Con. How awesome does that look? I know I'm eagerly awaiting the May 2008 release of the film.

Since we're on the topic of upcoming films, how about Alien vs Predator: Requiem? Here's the red band (that's cool in the know people talk for R-Rated) trailer for the film and just based on this it looks a whole lot better than the first big bunch of wank that was AVP, which was sadly lacking on the Aliens battling Predators bits that the title of the film might lead one to believe it contains. The movie is coming out on Christmas Day this year, because nothing says Christmas like Aliens fucking up Predators fucking people fucking up Predators fucking up Aliens, right?

Hey at least it makes more sense than a Labour Day release of Rob Zombie's Halloween - which if you're a Halloween or Rob Zombie movie fan you should see. Just looking at the two imdb pages for these films the recreation of this promo shot from the John Carpenter original into this one for the Zombie remake really appeals to me for some reason.

Enough geekery for now, time to movie onto bigger and better things . . . well okay maybe not bigger . . . but it's definitely amusing; even though this isn't late breaking news any more did you know that the Dad from TLC's Little People, Big World, Matt Roloff, was charged with DUI at the end of July?

No?

Well you can read about it here if you really want. Me I'm curious how/if they'll show this in the upcoming season(s) of the show? Will it be addressed or will they simply pretend like it never happened and just never have Matt driving anywhere. Only time will tell.

Time for something a little more current event like, like this:

Greece Fire! Looks like this has gone well past the point of dumping some baking soda on it or putting the lid back on the pot . . . but enough of the humour in bad taste, here's an article that talks about the wildfires raging all over Greece. But the the real reason why I'm sharing that link is they've got a satellite photo showing the huge plumes of smoke rising from various spots in the country and some pretty amazing photos of the fire and its aftermath.

Well that's enough for now, but I will leave with this link to pics of Hayden Panettierre, the cheerleader Claire from NBC's hit series Heroes (mark your calenders season 2 premieres Spetember 24), dressed up like a little German girl for the fan boys out there, and because I was stopped a while ago and told that I wasn't posting enough porn in here. Well it ain't porn but it's a start.

Enjoy

Good news, everyone:

According to this article there's a new Futurama movie being released on November 27. The show will return on November 27th as a full-length high-def film sold on DVD. It will be followed by three additional films, and each film will be divided into four episodes each to be aired on Comedy Central. So, that's 4 DVD movies or 16 new episodes depending on how you look at it.

Apparently no other big revelations came out of the SDCC panel, but they did say that the first DVD - Bender's Big Score - centers around some nudist aliens and the secret to time travel which is somehow attached to Fry's buttock.

Since we're rocking the entertainment world, how about this article where Ed Norton says he rewrote the "Incredible Hulk" script to better link to other Marvel Comics franchises; apparently Norton was a "Marvel kid", his words not mine. I still haven't seen the last Incredible Hulk movie directed by Ang Lee, but I haven't heard anything good about it so I don't think I'm missing out on anything . . . and from what I've read/heard the studios are going to pretend that movie never happened when making this one.

Damn there's all kinds of great news that comes out of the San Diego Comic-Con . . . like yesterday someone had YouTubed a screening of footage from/the trailer for the upcoming Iron Man movie, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Ironman, from the SDCC and I watched it last night, but when I went to check to see if the link was still good this morning, it wasn't. You can check it yourself here if you like.

But don't fret the official Dark Knight teaser trailer is still up and running on YouTube so go give it a butcher's, it's a real tease but you know you wanna.

Well I should get going, but I'd like to leave you with a little history reminder it was on this day in 1938 that in his Dearborn, Michigan office Henry Ford proudly accepts a Nazi medal on his 75th birthday. The Grand Cross of the Order of the German Eagle is the highest award the Reich can bestow on foreigners. The medal arrives with a note of personal greetings from Adolf Hitler. A rabid anti-semite, Ford paid for copies of the racist hoax Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion to be deposited in major U.S. libraries. Think about that next time you're proud of your Ford tough F-150's history.

Until next blog.

Peace, Love & Rock 'n' Roll

It was today in 1999 that the Woodstock '99 festival ended in looting and rioting that left 12 trailers burned, towers toppled, and several women raped during the course of the show. About 500 state troopers were needed to quell the mass uprising of peace and love, apparently triggered by overpriced vendors and commercialization.

After I saw the concert footage, news coverage and read articles about what a disaster the show turned into I was glad that I didn't go to the show, and a friend of mine and I were planning to go, the thing that kept us from actually going was not being able to find a good price for plane tickets.

Enough history; time for some almost current events. Anyone familiar with Winnipeg knows that its residents love to steal stuff, especially cars, but this one takes the case. According to this article from the CBC the Winnipeg Police are investigating a "stolen" house. Turns out that a Winnipeg man has been charged with theft after a home in the city's West End area disappeared into a pile of rubble. Seems he was going to buy the building but he had it knocked down prior to actually doing so and since the actual owner didn't live in the city it went off without a hitch.

Talk about brass balls eh?

In other recent events a Nova Scotia man has been charged for pissing out his apartment window onto the people below who were watching the town of Pictou's annual Lobster Carnival parade. Speaking from experience when situated in such a position it is awfully hard and sometimes impossible to resist raining down on the people on the street with various whatevers . . . although I can swear that I never peed out an apartment window onto anyone.

And just for some general trivia how's about checking out this list of the 50 most populous countries in the world. Good to see that Canada is on the list at number 36 with 33,390,141 people. According to this list China is the world's most populated country with close to 40 times Canada's population. The United States comes in third in population, behind still way behind India, with just over nine times Canada's population. Don't you just love numbers?

And since we're talking trivia how about this list of 20 things you didn't know about Galileo from Discover Magazine and how about the debunking the pirate myth/legend of 'Arrrrrr'. Personally I'm a bigger fan of "Yaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" But that's me.

Who knows the information you just picked up might become handy in your next game of Trivial Pursuit or the next episode of Jeopardy you watch.

Anyway I think it's time to go, later days.

Drew Carey, come on down . . .

. . . you're the next host on The Price is Right! Or at least that's what this news release from CBS says. Drew Carey could be a good host of the show but Bob Barker has been on there for so long it will get really hard to get used to . . . not that I'm a TPIR watcher, especially since I have a day job. But the biggest question is will Carey continue the tradition and use Bob Barker's signature skinny stick mic?

Since we're talking TV changes here's one for the Corrie fans, Liz Dawn, who plays Vera Duckworth in Britain's longest-running soap opera "Coronation Street," is to leave the show due to ill health according to this article. I haven't been a life long Corrie watcher, but I have been watching for a few years now and have been noticing that the newer actors on the show are getting a whole lot better looking than the older ones.

All I know is I want to move there, there's so much going on and it's all on one short little street. Don't you think I'd make for another good illegitimate son for Fred Elliott?

That's enough TV for now, last Friday I saw the Deftones rock the shit out of the Burton Cummings Theatre, formerly know as the Walker Theatre. Another great Deftones show for sure, the opener, Die Mannequin Toronto based sleaze rockers, were pretty good as well, but the second act, From Beginning to End or Start to Finish or Sucky McSuckerson and the Sucktones, sucked all the ass. Good show overall and it was hot hot hot - the Walker smelled like an arm pit at the end of the night. Before the show we went to La Fiesta Cafecito for some central American style eats and man was it good. Everything I had (combo plate #3) was awesome, when you do make sure you try out their pupusas and the chicken chipotle soup is deadly.

Anyway I gotta get going, gotta catch a plane, so until next time and remember help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.

Barbarella Come & Save Me From My Misery

Well according to this article now Halle Berry is going to play Barbarella in the to be made someday remake of the 1968 cult classic starring Jane Fonda in the title role. Personally I was more excited about this when Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale were rumoured to be playing the lead in this remake, but no matter I'll go see it anyway . . . if and when it gets released and or appears at my local theatre.

And since we're talking new movies apparently there's another sequel to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (remember their Bogus Journey?) in the works, but according to this article from Contact News it will happen without Keanu Reeves or Alex Winter (who apparently has done something besides the Bill & Ted movies and The Lost Boys), Reeves because his agent thinks it would be bad for his career. Personally I can see not calling on these two to reprise the roles, but what I do I know for making movies.

And one last bit of movie news, Kevin Smith has announced a new movie Zack & Miri Make a Porno. You can read about it here if you like; me I'm just hoping it's good. So far the only Kevin Smith movies that I've enjoyed (at least if i knew the movies with Smith films) have been the New Jersey Chronicles - although I have to admit that when I saw Chasing Amy I only liked the first half of it.

In case you're a big a fan of Smiths' New jersey movies here's a website that gives you the addresses of many of the real locations that he used in these movies. Stalk away you crazy fan boys.

Well that's enough movies talk for now, let's move onto TV game shows. Unfortunately this link is about a month and a half old, but someone auctioned off the set from Family Feud on eBay. I gotta wonder what are you going to do with this guy who bought it? I guess you could redecorate your living room with it like Kosmo Kramer did on the one episode of Seinfeld . . . or make game night down at the local boozer a lot more big budget.

And here the good folks at Retro Crush have compiled their list of the Top 30 Game Show Hosts and really it's hard to argue with their choices, even their choice for the number one slot. Rayburn and Match Game was so many kinds of awesome, but I don't think the either would have been as good without the other. The show really needed it's on air drinking, chain smoking, B-List Celebrity panel, Mr. Rayburn, cheeky flirting and that great 70's attitude (and penchant for brown plaid suits) to really make it classic and worthwhile. But that's just my opinion.

You can catch re-runs of Match Game on the Game Show Network if you're so inclined.

And today I will leave you with this link to purchase your very own replica Airwolf Helmet, although unfortunately they won't be making any more of them until late this year. Book mark the site because I can think of a few people who would defo love to have one of these on their shelf . . . or head. I remember thinking that the show Airwolf was just bad ass when it was on the air . . . I wonder if it's still watchable? and I wonder what Jan-Michael Vincent is up to these days?

Anyway that's her for now, I am outta here!
