What do you wanna do with your life?

I wanna rock!

Ever feel like you might not be living up to your full potential or did you spend your academic career recieving similar remarks from your teachers? I know I did.

If you want that confirmed check out this gem of a website here, Things Other People Accomplished When They Were Your Age. Here's what people accomplished at my current age:

So how do you stack up? Could be seen as amazing or one more thing to get you down about your accomplishments to date.

Well that's it for now; I've got a lot of ground to make up to get some things accomplished and for some reason I don't think posting stuff on here will help.

Something Different for Today

Here's a post that's something different what I normally stick here, but I couldn't resist doing this one, especially since I had a discussion about this very thing with a friend of mine not so long ago. Anyway enough chit chat, onto the meat of it all.

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?

So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button

Opening Credits: Here Comes Your Man - The Pixies

Waking Up: Lithium - Nirvana

First Day At School: 1776 - Iced Earth

Falling In Love: Send Me An Angel - Thrice

This was yoinked from Captain Kalli 2Blades', a viscious pirate captain and trivia player extraordinaire, blog.

Well now I'm off to Kasabonika for the day. For those of you who may not know or remember my last trip to Kas involve getting stranded for one night and getting to use an air sick sack for the very first time on the flight home. I rule.

Wish me luck.

Hoodie-Hoooooooooooooooo!

Northern Hemisphere Hoodie-Hoo Day

When : Always on February 20

On this winter day, people go out at noon, wave their hands over their heads and chant

"Hoodie-Hoo".

It is a day to chase away winter and bring in spring. After all, everyone in the northern hemisphere are sick and tired of winter at this point and a little crazy being cooped up inside all winter and not seeing the sun.

Did you know? Hoodie Hoo Day is a copyrighted holiday. It was created and is provided, courtesy of the great folks at Wellcat.com

Everybody's doin' it doin' it doin' it

And if you don't believe me, check out this photo gallery of celebrities caught mid-pick. See it's true everyone enjoys a good pick.

In some non-booger related news in this brief article (and I mean brief, the couple sentences I am going to write here are pretty must as long as the article itself) the always reserved and soft spoken Kerry King from Slayer slams Metallica, referring to the band as a sinking ship.

After seeing Metallica in Winnipeg at the old Winnipeg Arena while they were touring for St. Anger I'm not sure how far off the mark Mr. King is. I'm a long time and big time Metallica fan, but at that show I've gotten more pumped cranking a Metallica record on my home stereo (and I'm not just saying that because I dropped my New York Fries Poutine on the floor of the movie theatre (the staff gave me new fries and treated me like I was special needs to boot) before seeing Van Helsing (huge pile of crap, the movie had all the potential in the world and lived up to none of it) before going to the rock show) . . . but I'm holding out hope for the upcoming Metallica record as they are going with producer Rick Rubin this time around as opposed to Mr. Bob Rock (formerly of the Vancouver (home of the Buchan Hotel) band the Payola$) whom I believe was largely responsible for Metallica sounding like a three piece punk band on their last record.

And now for a little history - on this day in 1942 President (and polio victim) Roosevelt signs Executive Order 9066, the internment order permitting Japanese Americans to be held in concentration camps for the duration of World War 2. But don't feel left out, Canada had its own internment camps for Japanese during WW2 as well.

Well that's it for now, later.

He lives in a condo made of stone-a

And no I don't mean Fred Flintstone; did you know that on this very day in 1923 Lord Carnarvon opened King Tut's tomb, revealing one of the most well-preserved treasures from the ancient world. There is of course the legend of the curse of Tut's tomb killing 13 of the 20 who were present at the opening (one more reason why it's better to wait for the day after thw grand opening to see something), but there are others who say there was no curse and no unusual death patterns occurred. I think that the first one makes for a better story don't you?

And today in 1959 my favourite failed pro baseball player Fidel Castro is sworn in as the President For Life of Cuba. During his first year of rule 500 are put to the firing squad, which seems like a lot, but he's no Uncle Joe.

And since no update would be complete without a little fan boy geekery according to this article
Joss Whedon (the man behind the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series and Firefly / Serenity) is now free to do live action Sailor Moon movie. This movie ranks right up there with Josie & the Pussycats for important cartoons to come to life and some of you already know why.

Well this one's a little shorter, but I gotta get going . . . for some reason I really like coming back to update what I'm listening to.

Hit for Six

As you may or may not know I spent a hungover day in Oz watching the cricket on the box and learning a bit a bout the game. I can honestly say that this didn't happened during the one day test (Australia v South Africa) that I watched. You may not like cricket, but I bet you like the fans now, eh?

In a slightly related bit a friend of mine is a big fan of sponsor for the game shown in that link, Castle Lager, a South African beer. The game we watched in Oz was sponsored by Victoria Bitter, or VB as it's commonly reffered to down undah . . . I think they like to shorten words and sayings up some because it's too hot to talk there. I drank my fair share of VB while on holiday there and take it from me, it's great from the tap, good in a can and complete ass in a bottle.

Now for something almost completely un-cricket related, did you know that on this day in 1936 at a speech in Berlin Adolf Hitler challenges German industry to create the Volkswagen. In response to this challenge Ferdinand Porsche (Ferry to his friends) designs the Beetle which is now widely seen as the final solution to fahrvergnugen (driving enjoyment in German). Apparently Hitler himself gave Porsche's design a few tweeks to give it those essential Beetle qualities and charm that all know and love . . . and that are almost completely lacking in the new Beetles.

And finally what would a post from me be without some quality geek references - so here you go - according to the good people over at TV Guide the American Sci Fi channel has signed up for a fourth season of BSG. Bad news only a 13 episode fourth season. Hopefully they'll extend it to a full season.

And you may or may not be happy to hear that Hasbro will be rolling out new Transformers toys based on/to tie in with the release of the new movie on July 4, 2007. I'm torn on this one, Transformers were hella-cool, but the stills/art I've seen for the new movie Transformers is just too busy, too anime, too not cool for my tastes, but maybe they'll look more awesome on the big screen. Maybe even on the Silver City big screen?

And I'll end this one on a scary note - Hasbro is recalling almost one million Easy Bake Ovens because some kids got the hands/fingers caught in the oven and burned themselves. Me I'm thinking if you put your fingers into something called an oven, even if it is an Easy Bake model, and get them caught and burned isn't that just a life lesson and not a reason for a lawsuit? Am I the only one who still thinks that people are responsible for what they do?

Man now I really want a tiny cake cooked under a 100 watt light bulb.

That's it I'm outta here.

A Couple More New Bits

What do you think?

Who Heart-ed?

Since Valumnatimes is serious times, here's a holiday related episode of the Teen Girl Squad. I hope I get Valemtimes from all the football players . . .

And now for a little Valentine's Day history. Today is/was the eve of the Roman feast of Lupercalia. To celebrate naked youths would run through Rome, anointed with the blood of sacrificed dogs and goats, waving thongs cut from the goats. If a young woman was struck by the thong, fertility was assured. Now that's a party. This is a far cry from the legend of the to be martyred, soon to be Sainted, Valentine being slipped notes and cards and chalky candy hearts with sweet sayings on them in his prison cell that I'm sure we're all familiar with.

Pope Gelasius I decided this was not acceptable, and co-opted this Roman holiday to be the Feast of St. Valentine in 484 A.D. See back to my post on giftmas day for a little more information about the Catholic Church co-opting pagan festivals.

And apparently those chalky little hearts are called Conversation Hearts. Who knew?

It might not be valentines related and it might not be romantic, but that depends on your definition of romance. Anyway here's DJ Benny Benassi's uncut video for his song "Who's Your Daddy?". This video is supposed to be a tribute to the cult porn films of the 70's and is chock full of female nudity . . . so it might not be appropriate for watching at work. If you liked that one check out his video for "Satisfaction" as well; no nudity but I can honestly say I've never seen a building site that looked like that - I've seen a few tool calenders that look like that though. I don't know if it's the videos but I'm going to run the risk of losing my metal cred and say that I in fact like those songs . . . could I just listen to them? I don't know. I'll have to test that.

Well this one definitely has nothing to do with Valentine's day or romance, but here's an awesome review of the movie "300". Now I wanted to see this movie long before I read that review but damn if I really really want to see it now. In case you've been living under a rock or not watching TV or other movies you can check out the movie trailers here.

300 was written by Frank Miller, the same guy who was responsible for Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (sooo-oh awesome, if you're a Batman fan and haven't read it you've got to) and Sin City.

That's enough for now - catch you later . . . and remember if you're rushing out to get me a last minute V-Day present I'd prefer a heart full of beef jerky to one full of chocolate.

New Look?

Just playing around with the look of the blog, not bad for not knowing what I'm doing and just stabbing around, eh?

Does this mean I'll be more regular with the posting?

Not necessarily.

So what does everyone think?

Ground Control to Major Tom

Commencing countdown, engines on . . . well that's enough Bowie for the moment, but here's something cool and spacey that doesn't involve over acting hams making out with hot green alien chicks, for a change - check out these cool panoramic photos of the moon.

Since we're talking space, I can't not mention that there's talks of a direct to DVD Battlestar Galactica movie in the works. If you're not already watching BSG (as the basement dwelling l337 call it) you should get seasons one and two on DVD, get your sorry selves caught up and start watching the thrid season. If it's not the best show on TV at the moment, it's one of the best hands down. And yes that does include Law and Order. And no it's about a billion times better than the cheese-fest that was the original series from the late 70's . . . and I'm not just saying that because I want to make out with the new Starbuck way more than the original one. Not sure why.

And now it's time for a little George Lucas Bashing; thanks to this article here I think I've dug up the reason why the three prequels were pretty much ass. If you are to believe this article Lucas thinks that The Empire Strikes Back was the worst of the series . . . I'd say that flies in the face of conventional wisdom (as most people including myself believe that ESB was by far the best of them all) but what do I know for good movies, eh?

And since we're talking about how not cool the Star Wars prequels were, riddle me this; at the end of Star Wars III, Darth Vader & the Emperor are looking at a half-built Death Star. Assuming Luke & Leia are about 1 month old, how can the Death Star be such a novelty when they're about 21? I think even in the Star Wars Universe it would be hard to keep a 30 year plus construction project of that size a secret. Any ideas?

And now to get away from the space race and into the "I've been saying this for a long time department" but maybe now people will believe me since there's an editorial about it in the Wall Street journal; but this writer feels that half of all children are below average, and teachers can do only so much for them. For whatever sad reasons there's a definite lack of smart cool people in the world . . . but it's probably always been that way.

And I'd like ask, am I the only one who thinks this is awesome? I know I've been on a couple of flights where I wish that would have happened . . . I mean if I were on a plane and kicking up a fuss and wouldn't stop crying and screaming and yelling they'd likely lead me off the plane in cuffs, so fair's far right?

Now to close on a bright bit, how about a nice full screen shot of Jenn Anniston from the movie The Break-Up . . . . be forewarned, you get to see her boobies in the shot.

Until next time.

Heeeeeeee's Baaaaaaaaaaaaaack

So once again it's been a long while. Where have I been? Here and there. What have I been doing? Just been busy and on top of that getting a full night's sleep, so it's been cutting into the time I have to spend on this.

When I was in TO I had a few at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern and bought some new toys at the Silversnail. Care to see what I bought? This and this and this and this and this and this. The three Conan pieces fit together to make a cool little diarama. Stop by and check it out sometime.

Since we're talking a little geekery, how about we look at some cartoons reimagined in an anime or japanese animation style. How about a little Charlie Brown for starters? To be followed up with some Simpsons action and how about a little Futurama (All Glory to the Hypnotoad) for the afters? You'll likely have to click the thumbnails on the last two to make any sense of the picture. All I have to say is at least the artists didn't reimagine these cartoons in a Hentai style.

If you're not familiar with Hentai, if you're ever looking for animated school girl alien tentacle rape, then Hentai's your bag. In case you're still curious about what Hentai's all about here's a Google Image Search on the subject. Make sure you have the safe image search off or you won't get the full effect.

Since we're talking a little Japan here, how about an interview with everyone's favourite time travelling, comic book reading, Trek watching, son of Sulu Hiro Nakamura, played by Masi Oka, on one of the finest shows on TV at the moment Heroes.

And in closing I watched some SNL this past weekend, even though it was sadly Tina Fey free, it had some good stuff on it. This bit made laugh pretty hard, who knew sloths were so awesome? This bit was pretty awesome too.

Well that's it for now, hopefully we won't go so long between pos next time around, eh?
