Who Heart-ed?

Since Valumnatimes is serious times, here's a holiday related episode of the Teen Girl Squad. I hope I get Valemtimes from all the football players . . .

And now for a little Valentine's Day history. Today is/was the eve of the Roman feast of Lupercalia. To celebrate naked youths would run through Rome, anointed with the blood of sacrificed dogs and goats, waving thongs cut from the goats. If a young woman was struck by the thong, fertility was assured. Now that's a party. This is a far cry from the legend of the to be martyred, soon to be Sainted, Valentine being slipped notes and cards and chalky candy hearts with sweet sayings on them in his prison cell that I'm sure we're all familiar with.

Pope Gelasius I decided this was not acceptable, and co-opted this Roman holiday to be the Feast of St. Valentine in 484 A.D. See back to my post on giftmas day for a little more information about the Catholic Church co-opting pagan festivals.

And apparently those chalky little hearts are called Conversation Hearts. Who knew?

It might not be valentines related and it might not be romantic, but that depends on your definition of romance. Anyway here's DJ Benny Benassi's uncut video for his song "Who's Your Daddy?". This video is supposed to be a tribute to the cult porn films of the 70's and is chock full of female nudity . . . so it might not be appropriate for watching at work. If you liked that one check out his video for "Satisfaction" as well; no nudity but I can honestly say I've never seen a building site that looked like that - I've seen a few tool calenders that look like that though. I don't know if it's the videos but I'm going to run the risk of losing my metal cred and say that I in fact like those songs . . . could I just listen to them? I don't know. I'll have to test that.

Well this one definitely has nothing to do with Valentine's day or romance, but here's an awesome review of the movie "300". Now I wanted to see this movie long before I read that review but damn if I really really want to see it now. In case you've been living under a rock or not watching TV or other movies you can check out the movie trailers here.

300 was written by Frank Miller, the same guy who was responsible for Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (sooo-oh awesome, if you're a Batman fan and haven't read it you've got to) and Sin City.

That's enough for now - catch you later . . . and remember if you're rushing out to get me a last minute V-Day present I'd prefer a heart full of beef jerky to one full of chocolate.
